"What will become of "8 simple rules" ?"

I say ABC has to cancel the show because John Ritter was the show. The timing couldn't have been worse for ABC. Its not like Coach on Cheers who died since he was only a secondary character

I'm not really for sure....I think it depends on how many episodes they had filmed so far for this season...and it also depends if they want to continue the show without him, which I kinda doubt. I know that soap operas and other shows have to kill the character off if someone on the cast passes away, and I'm sure the show at least would like to have a final episode if they did film one without Ritter.....I guess we'll see, personally I liked the show and I think it deserves at least a farewell episode.....either way, thoughts and prayers are still with the Ritters and all of the cast/friends for that matter.

The last I read, they were going to show re-runs and then the 3 shows that he had "in the can" for the new season(he died filming the 4th), then a tribute show. After that, they hadnt decided.

I just heard on Extra that ABC is leaning towards continuing, but with a new character.

LOS ANGELES (Reuters) - ABC Television said on Tuesday it was going ahead with its comedy "8 Simple Rules for Dating My Teenage Daughter" despite the sudden death last week of its star, actor John Ritter (news).

Llyod Braun, chairman of the ABC Entertainment Television Group, told reporters that future episodes of the show would look at how a family experiences the loss of a father.

"After much introspection and discussion with all parties, we are going to go forward with the show. ... As it feels right, comedy will be introduced back into the show," Braun said.

Braun said the network would air the three new episodes already recorded by Ritter as planned starting on Sept. 23, and then show repeats while writers fleshed out the new story line. The program was a modest hit for ABC last year and the network had counted on it as a centerpiece of its family friendly lineup for the upcoming television season.

They said the same thing last night on the John Ritter special on ABC.

I saw a bit of it, and it was SO sad. The kids in the cast really loved him, and they were having a hard time keeping it together during the interview (so was Katey Segal).

Because (A) I was morbidly curious and (B) I am a Katey Segal fan. Show was okay; had some funny lines and was certainly better than, say, American "Coupling." Could see working as show starring Katey as plucky widow.
Ritter looked bad. Maybe it's hindsight, but he just didn't look healthy.
It made me sad and I only saw a few minutes.
