We need a lime skull helmet over here...

The DVD set for Season #1 has been out for a while now, and that's the unedited Showtime version. So if you're willing to wait out the CBS season, you can go back and check out the original airing afterwards.

If you don't want to be that patient, then Amazon, your local DVD supplier, and possibly even a few pay-per-download sites are calling.

Waiting on the Season #2 set release. Patiently. (Sort of).

Sooooo good.

It drives me crazy cause I can't really go anywhere to read about it because I don't want to run into spoilers. After this run on CBS we are getting season 2 on dvd then will pick up Showtime for the fall.

Never has a show inspired me to order a cable channel.

It's very noir-ish right?

This wasn't my favourite so far. The Ice Truck Killer was really trying to force a familiar relationship with Dexter, which I found uncomfortable.

Speaking of uncomfortable...will Rita and the kids be staying with Dexter now? Where else would she go in the middle of the night? That would be funny.

I also didn't much care for the sub-plot of the shooting, but I suppose the other actors need something to do.

The oddest thing about this show is how I want for Dexter to have as normal a life as he can. I'm good with him because I would personally not ever be in his sights, I guess. ITK *might* kill me, so I don't like him. Who knew I could prefer one serial killer to another?

When this show's previews originally came out, I thought Dexter was a vigilante cop and had no interest. But I find this character study of a sociopath with an appropriated moral compass really intriguing.

My personal internal rationalizing with this show is amazing. Yeah he is not good and is very dark. Yet you root for him. Unlike Tony Soprano, another sociopath, Dexter is much more complex. He is doing "good" in a way. At least with Tony if you rooted for him you still knew that he was a bad, bad, man.

I like how this show makes you think these things.

I wonder if the other shooting is just a paralell story showing that cop is killing too as a way to serve his own type of justice. Just not as on the surface "dark" as Dexter is.

I don't know if any of this made sense.

Yay Seana watches too!

Look at me I got a Sweet Summer Syren Siggie!

See, that makes sense. This is why I did so poorly in English.

OK, this ep cracked me up. And freaked me out.

Cracked Me Up:
- ITK in Dexter's kitchen asking for a really big knife.
- Lieutenant directs questions to the Captain.
- Dexter's face when he realises that he's just hit Paul in the head with a frying pan.
- Dexter sets Paul up to be sent back to jail.

Freaked Me Out:
- Angel asking ITK about amputation fetishes.
- Angel being attacked.
- Thinking Dexter was going to kill Paul.
- What happened to Dexter's mom.

One more, just for fun!

Icked Me Out:
- Sexual innuendo guy making out with that chick in the bar.
Ew.

"Watching Season 1 on DVD"
Posted by Seana on 06-23-08 at 04:03 PM
DH and I rented Disc 1 of 4 of the first season. We watched episodes 1 and 2 last night. I had my hands ready to put over my ears and my eyelids ready to be squeezed shut at the first sign of horror-movie-esque bloodiness or gore. However, it's not that bad. Really. If you've been watching the CSI's or Criminal Minds, you should be alright. I was so worried that it would be like some slasher flick, but it was OK. There is far more swearing, but for some reason, even the f-bomb didn't seem too much over the top.

A few plot items were better-developped, like how Doakes is so suspicious of Dexter. We can't see that on the cleaned-up network version because he swears so much. There were a couple things that made a bit less sense in the cleaned-up version because we didn't see the ickier (but not as bad as I was expecting) details.

We're looking forward to the rest.

Last weekend - watched all of season 1 back to back... couldn't stop myself.

This weekend - did exactly the same thing with season two.

Most enjoyable series... never lost my interest once.
