"Veronica Mars on the CW"
Posted by mrc on 10-04-06 at 08:27 AM
One of my top three shows returned last night. Our heroine is now in college--they grow up so fast!A good start to the season last night. A couple of mysteries, but we are moving away from the connections to Duncan and Co. Well, with the exception of Logan, who still irritates the snot out of me. I just don't get the relationship with Logan, but I've been a doubter since Day 1.
Visually, I didn't think the CW did as good of a job. Things didn't seem to be as vibrant. I also didn't like the change to the theme song. That song has to rawk!

I remember wanting to watch this when it first started. For whatever reason, I never watched it. Recently, my sis suggested I watch the first 2 seasons before the new season started.I was toward the end of the first season when the new season started and, boy, was I shocked to see her kissing Logan. I about freaked! Of course, I had to wait for the next DVD to come from Netflix before I saw how they got together. Like you, I am very suspicious of their relationship. But, I have always had this teeny tiny crush on Logan.
I liked the change in scenery with college, but I hated the new song. Blucky! I can't wait to catch up with season 2 coming to my mailbox soon. Lots of questions I need answered. I'm guessing by one of your comments that I won't have those answered. Bummer!
Besides my sis, now I have a watching buddy! Yay!

Yay, #####-ray!
Last night's episode was really good. I have only one complaint so far. While last year was too complicated, this year seems too simple--find the college rapist. I hope there is more to it than that. Not that findind a rapist isn't important, mind you, but I like deeped mysteries. Otherwise, I am afraid that VM will start to wander into 90210 land, although smarter, funnier, and not as cheesy.

Haaa...I had that very same thought after the second episode. Are they gonna drag one mystery out for the entire season? If so? I won't be a happy camper.

Entertainment Weekly said that there would be three mini-mysteries, starting with the serial rapist --- assuming the show makes it past thirteen episodes. The network has only ordered up a half season to see how it does. Kristen Bell says that if they don't manage to hold a significant portion of the Gilmore Girls audience then the show will be gone in fewer than thirteen episodes. I'm hoping it does well enough for a full season since it is such a good show.I don't miss Duncan at all. (Piz is much hotter anyway.) I hate the "new" theme song. I'm still waiting for Weevil to arrive on the scene.
I loathe those "ariel" commercials with the tween girls "discussing" the program.

The plot with the brothers and Kendall doesn't have you completely confused? Simple my eye.
Logan and Veronica have a powerful connection because of loosing Lilly and always will.
Anyway, we all know Logan is going to screw up their relationship somehow.
And the argyle sweater? Their use of continuity brings a tear to my eye.
.
(the next episode seems a little fluffy to me, but they've had a few of those in the past..)

I really despise Logan and Veronica's stalking behavior. The guy is obviously a tool (not a ##### Casablancas, but still a tool). I prefer her single, not knocking boots next to Charles Dickens on the top floor of the library.I was glad to see Eli. He is an underused character, as is Wallace.

I love the character Weevil. There is more potential there definitely. Wallace seems to come and go in the first two seasons so it doesn't surprise me that he hasn't gotten much screen time this season. It's hard to buy someone as short as he is as a division one basketball player, too. I definitely hope it stays around. I think it might have better ratings as the lead-in for One Tree Hill though.

Best episode this season, IMHO. I think it was because Logan was basically non-existent. Or maybe it was because of the focus on academic cheating, which is a personal pet peeve.

Q. So, mrc, what did you think about last night's episode?A. I thought it was well done. Veronica's disappointment in her dad made me weep. Her mistrust of Logan was well-founded, IMHO, but we all knw how I feel about Voganica.
Q. Any guesses at who is the rapist?
A. Honestly, I have a feeling it might be #####, I mean, Pizz. VM has a cool way of making these things unpredictable. I've had more chillbumps with this show than any other in a long time. If not him, then the dean, who seems unbalanced in a lot of ways. Or maybe the CJ prof., who has some issues. Or maybe Chip, the frat. president. It could even be Logan . . . oh, wait, I guess not.
Q. Will you keep talking to yourself in this thread?
A. Sure, why not? No one reads it anyway.

Oh shut your hole- I've responded in here and you've ignored me.
Sheesh.
Veronica's disappointment in her dad was very well played on all sides. I LOVED how Veronica pointed out how her dad sounded like one of their clients.
I've thought the rapist could be Piz, but didn't some of them happen last year?
I keep thinking they are going to kill Logan off by the end of this story arc... I'm not spoilered, but where else are they going to go with Veronica and Logan? She loves him, he loves her... all is hunky dory until he acts like Logan. Again.
Seeing Veronica's hair on the ground scared me. Whew.

Excellent episode. The whole faked-rape idea really blew my mind--didn't see that coming. I think there is more to the story, though, as next week's previews indicated. The humor in this episode was awesome and sharp. Loved it.

I didn't see it coming either. I am really pleased to see a storyline like it on television, too. I suspect that, next week, it will be a "real rape" and then the perpetrators of the faked rapes will be made to feel guilty, but really, there's no way to predict what will happen on this show.

I did the same with Alias -- DVDs for the first seasons, and watched season 5 live -- and while it was really fun to see them "live-ish," I rather liked to eat them up back to back.

This was a good episode and story arc. The death was a bit predictable, but the rapist's identity kept me guessing.I really like how Veronica summed up the case for her friends. Very Nancy Drew-like.

I love this show...do NOT love the new remix of the theme song. I am guessing that the Dandy Warhols hate it too...at least I hope so.I think I am going to be ok with the three mini mysteries this season. I hope that the ratings are good, I teach journalism and this show has some great episodes about journalism related topics. I have even showed clips from it in class.

I liked how the show didn't just jump back in with the dean's murder. That made for a good transition.I liked Mac and the guy from Invasion. I kept expecting him to rise out of the bathtub, though . . .
The writers really need to keep Our Heroine and Logan apart. Logan is so 1990s-ish, with his navel-gazing. Sure, he's messed up b/c of his dad, but Veronica of all peeps should see that. As I have said before, I don't like how desperate she becomes around Logan. </retch>.

With Mac and Mr. Phat, all I can think is "please don't turn out to be a #####" like Beaver did. She deserves a nice guy. And she looked super cute in this episode. It looks like you're going to get your wish in the next episode. Unless she ISN'T telling Logan "I will never forgive you for this."

I just finished reading this whole thread, and I couldn't disagree more about all the Logan hating. He's the best thing about the show and always has been. I'm also glad he broke up with Veronica, but for the exact opposite reason--because HE is better off without HER. She's done nothing but inflict damage on him from the first season.Besides, bitter Logan is much more entertaining than smitten Logan.
Honestly, I watch this show IN SPITE of Veronica, not because of her. She's the tool. Give me Mac, Weevil, Logan, Keith, or, hell, even D!ck Casablancas (he's a tool, but at least he's not a tool with a superiority complex) over Veronica.
But give me Logan over all of them. Logan Echolls rules!
"RE: Wow"
Posted by mrc on 02-05-07 at 07:23 AM
As the biggest conduit of Logan-hatred, let me be clear: a show that focused on Logan as the main character would be a disaster. Imagine it--we would see him sit around moping all day, except for when he was banging skanks and drinking his sorrows away. I would pass.

"RE: Wow"
Posted by mrc on 02-06-07 at 01:59 PM
Well, Veronica is monogamous, so I don't think she qualifies as a skank*. A poor judge of character when her heart and emotions blind her? Yes.*From urbandictionary.com: Skank is a "derogatory term for a (usually younger) female, implying trashiness or tackiness, lower-class status, poor hygiene, flakiness, and a scrawny, pockmarked sort of ugliness. May also imply promiscuity, but not necessarily. Can apply to any race, but most commonly used to describe white trash."

"RE: Wow"
Posted by Ice 9 on 02-06-07 at 05:34 PM
Qualifications aside, I think the implication was that Logan only "bangs" skanks. Ergo, therefore, and ipso facto, that would make Veronica a skank by your own terms, not those of the fine folks at urbandictionary.com.Not that I have anything invested in the labeling of our dear heroine.
And I would totally watch "The Logan Echolls Show", but only if it was a variety-type program involving trophy wives, doping, bumfights, and Mexican donkey shows. I'm guessing they'd have to show that one in the 10 o'clock hour, though...on Fox.

LAST EDITED ON 02-06-07 AT 01:42 PM (EST)Oops, itchy enter finger.
I'm in the middle of both of your extremes. I like Logan on the show, and I'm okay with him being with Veronica.
I hate the way they promote the show as the "Veronica and Logan Hour" There is so much more to the show than that.
And I hated Logan moping around and following Veronica before he broke up with her. Lame, lame, lame.
Rob Thomas took a lot of heat for the bitchy way Veronica was acting this season, and was very defensive about it. I think the past two episodes have shown a much different, kinder, gentler Veronica. I like her.
The show is all about her, and always will be.
A Logan centered show would stink.

Very good episode. Dck was amazingly funny and mature . . . well, for Dick, that is. Much more so than He-Who-Must-Not-Be-Named.I also liked the compassion that Preacher Daddy showed. He wasn't the stereotypical televangelist, who make such easy targets.

Can you clarify? Do you mean that the show would come back in four years? Or that next season the show will be set four years after the current season? (Like 24 and Alias usually skip many, many months or years between seasons.)I think that a VM:FBI show has potential, but I want some of the current cast to be involved, especially Veronica's father.
