Did anyone watch it? Well, if you didn't don't worry, you didn't miss anything. In my opinion, a complete dud. Despite having a pretty good cast (Sally Field, Tom Skeritt*guest star, Ron Rifkin, Balthazar Getty, Calista Flockhart, Patricia Wettig, Rachel Griffiths) I didn't care about any of these characters at the end of the show. And you know it's bad when you don't care about Sally Field's character. I didn't think it was possible! But alas, it is.I won't flush this show down the toilet just yet, but it's definitely circling the drain...
And Calista Flockhart needs to go away.

YEah, I don't know if I will watch it again. They did set up a bunch of predictable premises: controlling boyfriend for Calista (that will obviously be gone soon), family company in trouble, "other woman", mean Sally Field, hmmm...yeah, don't know how it is all going to pan out. May watch it again one more time to see if it redeems itself...

I liked it. But I spent most of the first ep trying to remember which brother was which and what everyone's name was. I also didn't like that they killed off Tom Skerrit's character.

Okay, okay, I'll admit that I might have been wrong about this show. Last night's show was the best by far. The dinner scene was classic! I love me some Sally Field, yes I do! Calista Flockhart still bugs the carp out of me. This show is not out of the woods yet, but it's got some promise. The writing needs to pick up a bit, get more creative, make me feel something! Last night's show had a pulse...pulse is good.

The dad was sitting by the pool with his granddaughter (the one afraid to get in the pool) and he had a heart attack, fell in the water and died. That was at the end of the first episode. The second episode began with the funeral.

Anybody still watching?Any ideas where the 12 million bucks went?
What does Saul see in Holly?
Gotta credit crackhead brother helping out with the injections, and letting his sister practice on him.
Previews show Nora finding out about the situation of the company....Does anyone think that Nora knows where the money is?
"RE: October 22"
Posted by Loree on 10-23-06 at 11:33 AM
I'm still watching. And I don't trust Saul. I think he did something with the company money. Right before the father died we saw him find something out on the computer when he was going over the accounts. So I don't believe the father did anything with the money. I think he died before he could confront the person that did take the money.

Forensic attorney finds that the money is somewhere in a bank account in NV. Can't access the money or the account amount unless someone knows the password 5-8 digits, a million possibilities.Holly mentions at a big fundraiser/ball to Saul that she has a daughter named Rebecca. Cold this be the password? Saul is wondering.
Sarah's husband leaks accidently to Nora that the company is in huge trouble.
Tom finds out that he is sterile after months of attempts at having a baby with his over-eager wife.
Gay brother (sorry, having troubles remembering their names)does a big faux pas with his boyfriend and ends of insulting him for being a cater waiter. They are seen making up at the end of the show.
Druggie brother seems to be hitting it big with his boss.
Nothing interesting with Kitty..

Am I the only one watching? I thought this was a great episode.Saul is a dirty rotten scoundrel. I hope Sarah figures him out, and has the guts to throw him out, or have him thrown in jail.
A lot of deeper family issues come up/get resolved as all the family goes to spend the weekend, unbeknownst to the others, at the ranch that will probably be sold along with the orchards.

Ok, who is still watching?Did anyone expect that Holly's 3210 address on her house was the password, or was that just a little tricky misdirection?
Sarah, making that comment to Saul "you got to make a decision, old man", was great.
Justin wouldn't be put back in battle, he wouldn't pass the psyche test. No need to OD or go to Mexico. He goofed up his only good relationship he ever had with the Hotel manager.
Loved Kitty and Nora's relationship. And that Nora slept with the guy even though Kitty told her not to. Good relationship brewing here.
Interesting perspective Kitty's character brought home about 9-11. About the plane ride, her and others wandering the streets not being about to comprehend what was right before their eyes.
This show has so much potential, but I am afraid there must not be many viewers.

Unless the ratings have dropped drastically (I haven't checked in a couple of weeks) it was winning it's time slot with a couple of age groups. If I have time tomorrow, I will try and find the ratings.

Volsfan,
Before Sarah realized that the password was the initials, we are shown Saul talking to Holly in front of her house. Prominently displayed was the house number 3210. I was wondering at that time if it was a password/number, or a misdirection of the writers. It was shown a few times. It just made me wonder if others picked up on it.

"RE: November 19th episode"
Posted by aquariaqueen on 11-20-06 at 10:19 AM
Okay, part of the storyline is that the siblings realize that their father bought 5 acres somewhere in the middle of uninhabitable Nevada. They take the 5 hour journey out to see what the land is all about, since it's value is only 1.5 million dollars, not 15!
After car trouble and a truly funny scene in a town bar full of nothing but military men in which the gay brother finds himself a bed partner for the night---don't ask, don't tell!
They get to the property....it's nothing but dessert land. They go to the local bank to see if there is an account. No, but there is a safety deposit box. After opening it, there is a letter to Nora, and also a deed to the land which can be sold to the government for 30 million dollars!!!
My question to those who watched, why didn't he sell it earlier to keep his company afloat, or did it have to wait until he died????
Someone else want to take the Kitty story. I am terrible at synopsis-es.

Thanks to Seana for my sigpic!!!

Posted by aquariaqueen on 12-11-06 at 10:06 AM
Wow, Nora is definitely an obsessive compulsive, but how about that talk she had with Holly...it was wonderful. Sometimes I think Mr. Walker went to Holly because Nora could be so neurotic!!!Justin was told by the courts that he had to report to duty on the assigned date, but afterwards on the courtsteps the brigadier general gave him 6 months leave for re-hab and time with his family to get his head straight! (He hasn't ever met this family, how will they help get his head straight??? LOL)
Paige had the family, but mostly Nora, scrambling to celebrate Hannakuh....a custom they never followed. Saul pulled it off.
Holly gave O-Hi (how is it spelled, anyway?) a proposal. In return for her 10 million dollars worth of land, she would sell her 5 million of the land to the family, but wanted 5 million in stock of the company...... This will be interesting.
Anyone with comments?? I can't be only 1 of 3 people who watch this show.

"RE: Dec 10, just when I think Nora is a flake...."

>O-Hi (how is it spelled, anyway?) Ojai, after the city in California.
What I want to know is did they find the money in time to stop the sale of the orchards and ranch house?
Of the $30 million the land was worth, $15 million is to repay the amount "borrowed"/stolen from the company's pension plan, so really the net is only $15 million. So why would he give 2/3 of the remaining ($10 million) to his mistress? Even if he's doing it to provide for his illigitimate daughter Rebecca, that seems too skewed. Especially since he endangered the beloved family business to make the investment, you'd think he'd put more back into the business if it was struggling. The father and his mistress just keep getting more and more loathsome.

Good questions, and don't forget, he didn't know when he was going to die, he didn't have a terminal illness. They could have been long bankrupt before it was sold "after his death".Also, why was it worth so much after his death? Why didn't he sell it when he knew he could get 30 million?
Watch the government say they don't need the land anymore and they're not interested at any price!!!!

"Jan 21st, guest starring Marion Ross"
Posted by aquariaqueen on 01-22-07 at 09:40 AM
Another good episode.Marion Ross guess stars as Nora's mother. Great character, now you know where Nora gets her ways. (don't tell her that though)
It's Nora's 60th birthday, Mom comes in town and spoils the surprise, but who would have guess it to have a Mideavil(mid-level) theme!
The kids all video record messages that get put into a dedication tape, with Sarah making love to her husband put on it as well, by accident, for all the guests to see!!!!
Justin comes home from re-hab, and the party must be alcohol free, well the wine ends up in Kitty's closet where the family become "closet drinkers".
Justin meets up with Tyler to apologize for his actions, she is involved now with someone else. He tells her that after re-hab he's going back to Iraq.
And throw the flu into any scene you want as well.
Now a question???? When Justin finds his siblings drinking in the closet, did he say he was drinking as well?

The endless phonecalls....
Kitty in bed with the senator,
Kevin in bed with Scotty,
Nora's calling, the kids are being snotty.
Sarah wants the story,
Kitty spills Kevin's beans,
Everyone's sorry.
This poem's rather hokey.
Nora's in the pokey!!!
What a fun episode.
Everyone's having sex with the exes.
Nora goes out to dinner with an old friend, they end up smoking a joint in the friend's car, because they don't own their own home and do it safely..???? Police find them. Funny to watch.
Holly messing with Tommy's head regarding the winery. (**Do I have the brother's names mixed up???***)
Kitty and the senator make a visit to a billionare hoping for presidential campaign money. Billionaire falls for Kitty. Kitty still sleeps with the senator, and they're not going to hide their relationship.
At a Valentine's party, the boyfriend's girlfriend hooks lawyer brother up with his ex, Scotty. Jealousy ensues. (Grrrr....I know I am getting these brothers' names mixed up, I am so sorry)

Wow, twins for Tommy and his wife!!
Tommy is hooking up with Holly to buy the winery...can't wait to see how this plays out.
Justin is the only sane one of the group right now.
Nora is trying to get her creative juices going through art but mostly writing again....it sounded good to me.
The senator and Kitty are entertaining. I love her when she spars with words.

I forgot Kevin, I think he's in a strange stalker situation. I can't wait to see how that pans out.Yep, Justin of all people, is the most sane. Probably because he doesn't want to be involved with the family business!

Am I the only one still watching?LOL....an engagement party for Kitty and the Senator. The senator's family makes the Walkers look like Quakers. But actually, I see my family is so many of the senator's family.
Saul's male from years back, who haven't spoken reveals he's divorced and now is pursuing his homosexuality, he hits on Saul making an innuendo that they may have "had a past together".
Justin sneaks off to war, luckily, Nora and Kitty were able to catch him at the airport. That was so much better than a big cry-fest if they all went.
Holly still in the picture, but had a nice talk with Sarah, she would have done a great toast.
The senator's gay brother sucks face with Kevin in the pantry....I know there's a closet joke somewhere here. Anyway, the punchline is that Robert's brother is an ordained minister!! What a hoot.
Anyone else out there watching, please share!!!
(Oh, and when Nora is explaining her internal turmoil with Justin leaving and "saying good-bye", I couldn't help but think of Sally Fields being Mellyn from Steel Magnolias when Shelby died.

LAST EDITED ON 05-22-07 AT 11:51 PM (EST)I'm still watching.
I enjoyed the ending when they all leaped in the pool.
Rebecca did confess to Justin that maybe she was to blame for the Joe kiss. But I never saw her admit that to Sarah like she agreed she would.
Saul does seem to have an interesting past. And yes, something happened between him and his old friend. I still wonder if Saul didn't steal some of the money from the company. That still bugs me what the father found on the computer about the finances before he died that night.

ooohhh...I didn't see that! Started watching a few minutes late on the first episode I think. I am a die hard Sally Field fan so I couldn't resist...
so glad they didn't chicken out with Justin and sent him back...should be interesting next year.
Wonder if Nora will pay for not heeding Holly's advice about Rebecca...hhmmmm
What an amazing cast of actors they got for this one...delish!

You are not the only one watching! This is our Sunday night ritual after the kids go to bed!
Yes, we (DH & I) loved the jumping into the pool at the end, and the fact that the senator's family is so PSYCHO!
I hope it will continue in the fall!
