Has anybody seen the previews about this show? The commercials say this show comes on "this fall, on CBS" ... and it looks like it's about being stuck in a small fictional town in Kansas during a nuclear war .... kindof like the show "The Day After".

Oh, No, I didn't see that. Same time as Lost? Oh, great...
Yeah, it comes on Wednesdays. It looks like an interesting show, but with world events the way they are today.... it kindof scares me. I will watch it, until Lost starts coming back on.
(If lost comes back on...)

My local ABC channel is not even showing Lost re-runs!

I'm probably going to watch it, but I'm getting leery of these new types of shows that seemed to be more "made for TV" movies, then a show that can sustain a long term airing.

I really got hooked into Surface and Invasion last season and right from the beginning I felt that these shows were more suited to the movie genre than an on going TV drama and I was right. I mean, the concepts of these shows are interesting, but can they last for more than a season?

So far the only show that has been able to do that is LOST, but even that's been getting a little out there here and there.

If this new show is based solely on a disaster without some strange mystery going on, then it's really a 2 hour movie.

I'm hoping though for more LOST type show's and I think this one could have possibilities. I'm just kind of tired of getting hooked into these types of shows only to have them cancelled without closure.

I sympathize with you TATER!

I fell for the whole Invasion scam myself last season. I let myself get into it only to be let down by the networks again.

Jericho looks great. I watched the TiVO preview of it and when I went to record it, there were no episodes listed, so I just made a note to watch for it.

Anyone hear of a premier date for it? Hopefully we'll get a couple "pre-LOST" episodes to see whether we like it or not.

It's stuck in a huge faceoff against the premieres of The Biggest Loser 3 and Top Model 7 and Dancing with the Stars 3's second results show, but Jericho premieres tonight at 8PM ET/PT.

this show was a piece of sh!t.

i watched it b/c DH saw a commercial about an hour earlier, and got interested in it. we don't watch any of the other crap it was in competition with, so we watched.

it blew. and not in a good way, either.

it was so cheesy and the acting so terrible. i doubt we'll watch it again.

DH described it as "painful."

besides, i'm sick of these bandwagon terrorist shows.

besides, i'm sick of these bandwagon terrorist shows.

I must have missed the part about terrorists. My understanding was that no one knew why the explosions were happening.

It was okay. I'll watch next week, but I'm not sure how they are going to stretch this out beyond six weeks. It sure isn't Lost.

Sure it was full of cliches and plot holes but I still got my groove on to it!

Yeah no one knew who made the explosions or where else they were except for Denver and Atlanta.

I agree, there's zero sign that the show has anything to do with terrorism. The show seems to be about "the end of the world" -- ie., World War III -- more than anything.

A terrorism plot that involves nuclear bombs going off in several distant American cities and how it effects a remote small town wouldn't even be much of a plot for an ongoing TV series, for this show to work, I think it has to be more about how a small, isolated group of people gather together and survive without contact with the outside world and no one but themselves to depend on.

My guess is that the show is basically going to be "Lost in Kansas" -- the bombs are just a means of setting up the storyline, they *AREN'T* the storyline, just a subplot. My guess is that the show is going to basically be an exploration of an American community that, after being part of the the global economy that we've all part of, suddenly has to become completely self-reliant.

When your power is being transmitted from a power plat that's hundreds of miles away, what do you do for electricity? What happens when there are suddenly no more tractor trailers trucking food, medicine, etc. into your local stores every night? Do the have's share with the have not's? Does the town descend into anarchy? It's basically a story about how a town reacts to an apocalyptic situation, not about terrorism.

Heck, by the end of Episode 2 it looks like, due to radiation fallout, it might not even be safe for them to spend any length of time outdoors. I don't think it was a coincidence that the first episode happened to make a passing mention of a mining operation of some kind. How do you try finding help or finding out what happened when you can't even safely travel outdoors? What do you do for food when all the animals die and the soil becomes contaminated?

I enjoyed it and will probably be back for the rest of its run, but I also liked Surface and Invasion (although I didn't like last year's "freak of the week" Threshold show as much.)

A few years ago, Showtime aired two seasons of a similarly biblically titled show called "Jeremiah." It was written and produced by J. Michael Straczynski, the guy behind Babylon 5, and despite starring the at first glance cheesy team of Luke Perry and Malcolm-Jamal Warner was incredibly good. It had a apocalyptic theme similar to what Jericho seems to be developing, but it epxlored what the world would look like 20 years AFTER a apocalyptic event (in its case, the event was a virus that killed everyone who had reached puberty, leaving behind a country -- or world, the question was never really answered -- populated by the now adult children who'd managed to survive on their own.) Unfortunately being Showtime, the fools cancelled it after two seasons.

>Can anyone say: "The Stand"? If
>you are correct.

Well, its been a long time since I read "The Stand," but wasn't that more of a horror/occult story?

"Jericho" seems to be aiming toward being more of a straight disaster movie -- I'd say it's shaping up to have more in common with a movie like "Independence Day" than something like "The Stand" (which I believe was first published in 1978.)

"Jeremiah" was actually based on a European comic book that was first published in the late '70s.

Of course, "The Day After" was broadcast in 1983. "Mad Max" was in 1979. "Red Dawn" was in 1984.

As far as other books go, "Alas, Babylon," which was published in the late 50's and pre-dates all of the above, was about the effects that a nuclear war had on a small Florida town (and in the 50's Florida was much more rural than it is today) -- that's probably the closest that you're going to find to the direction that "Jericho" seems to be be heading towards.

For those interested, Jericho's premiere did pretty good and -- given that it went up against the premieres of The Biggest Loser 3 and Top Model 7, Dancing with the Stars 3's second results show -- much better than I expected.

The show did 11.66 million viewers, a 7.6/12 in households, 3.4/10 in Adults 18-49, and 4.5/12 in Adults 25-54 -- numbers that placed it second in its time period (behind Dancing with the Stars) in all those categories.

From the press release CBS put out this afternoon:

This is the best regularly scheduled delivery in the time period since February 18, 2004 in households ("60 Minutes Wednesday"), January 7, 2004 in viewers ("60 Minutes Wednesday"), February 26, 2003 in adults 25-54 ("Star Search") and March 12, 2003 in adults 18-49 ("Star Search").

Compared to the same night last year (the season premieres of "Still Standing" and "Yes Dear"), JERICHO was up +65% in households (from 4.6/07), +67% in adults 25-54 (from 2.7/07), +48% in adults 18-49 (from 2.3/07), +28% in adults 18-34 (2.3/08 from 1.8/06) and added +4.86m viewers (from 6.80m, +71%).

I almost forgot to watch last night, which is not a good sign.

I thought last night's episode was horrible. The pacing, the multiple plot lines, the need to suspend belief that Disgruntled, Brooding Younger Son could make it from the mine to the farm to save 1980s Wannabe Girl from the Bungling Prisoners-Turned-Deputy Sheriffs was just too much. And blowing up the entrance to a cave and asking people to come dig you out when it stops raining radiation? Puh-leeze!

I'm also not digging the Mysterious Black Stranger who knows more than anyone else. Invasion was more believable than this. I may or may not watch next week.

Looks like Denver, Atlanta, Chicago, Philadelphia, and San Diego bit the dirt... along with at least 3 other cities.

Was Jake in prison? Is that what caused his Dad (Johnston) to say "... what you put us through" and other people to ask about his long absence?

That kid.... 'Dale' what's his story? Why do the other kids in the town hate him and call him 'freak'. Did I miss something?

Right before the rain came... I found myself yelling "Get the Heck out the RAIN !"

LAST EDITED ON 09-29-06 AT 00:32 AM (EST)

I agree, "Superhero Son" was a little difficult to take in Episode 2. The fugitives-turned-deputies storyline also seemed incredibly lame. As was the schoolteacher-turned-master mechanic. And how the mayor appears to have a "it's just a scratch" heart attack, the school geek bikes out to deliver food for the popular girl, the supermarket woman doesn't seem to realize that RADIOACTIVE RAIN IS COMING, the Mysterious Black Stranger casually sends his kid "upstairs" to get his sibling -- alone -- when the deadly rain that requires everyone to rush into their basements is coming, etc. And let's forget the fact that this is a small town where everyone knows everyone else but the Married Hot Chick apparently doesn't know any of the town's deputies. Episode 2 was disappointing in so many ways.

At least Lost establshed pretty early on that you're not going to be able to save everyone in a disaster and tough choices sometimes have to be made. The closest Jericho has seemed to come to that was the quick scene of some unknown resident not taking his dog into the basement with him.

Well, I was going to tape it cause I went out and didn't know if I would be back in time. I was back in time, but I got a phone call, so I missed the whole thing except the ending. The fact that I didn't even care tells me I'm not that interested. I will probably watch the next one, but won't feel too upset if I miss it again from what I've read about the second airing.

Tater, I don't think you missed much that was critical to the ongoing story (I think we summarized it all here... the town prepares for nuclear rain, SuperSon rescues everybody... again) but if you want to see it, I'm pretty sure Jericho is one of the shows CBS is streaming for free on cbs.com this fall.

Well, it's somewhat entertaining . . . mostly Skeet, however none of the other characters except for Robert Hawkins, the mysterious "Police officer."

A lot of what is going on is cliche and cheesy and back in the early 80s there were a lot of "nuclear holocaust" movies of the week that I remember watching. I don't know how they could keep things interesting & drag things out. Right now the only thing I really want to know is what was Jake really doing for the last 5 years & who is Robert Hawkins, government/CIA kind of guy?

Don't care about anyone else right now. No other character seems interesting to me.

More bad acting and implausible plot lines. I finally figured out what is wrong with this show (besides these two points).

1. It is moving too slow, just like Invasion. It has to speed up to have any chance of surviving.

2. It has too many characters. For example, the angst-filled geek pining for the hot, snobby girl. What's the point? I can't see any development of these characters.

3. The Hawkins character. He is supposed to be mysterious, but he just irritates me. I can't see any possible way that whatever secret he is hiding will interest me.

4. Lack of character empathy. I don't like any of these characters. Zero. Zippo. I have no emotional attachment. They could all die, and I would be okay with that.

Posted by PagongRatEater on 10-12-06 at 07:53 AM
I guess I'm pretty much on my own here, based on the other comments I've seen, but DW and I love this show. It has quickly become one of our favorites and it rarely sits long on the Tivo list. I think that the show has a lot of tension and very interesting mysteries: Who is Hawkins and why did he know it was coming? Who/what is responsible for the bombs? What has Jake been doing for the years he was gone? There's something bigger here than "The Morning After."

We always find the show moving: the community spirit, the unspoken patriotism and fear for America, the splintered relationships. I'm glad to see it is doing well - latest ratings had it in second for the night and at about a 10 share. I hate to invest emotionally in these shows and have them go away.

"RE: love it"
Posted by batts on 10-14-06 at 07:53 PM
I'm kindof liking the show. Enough to watch it from week to week.

My guesses.... and these are just guesses.
(1) Jake has been in prison for a while, and just got out. His dad won't give him money his grand dad willed to him because Jake has proven himself to be irresponsible with money.

(2) Hawkins was a cop, and probably got fired for suspicious behavior. Somehow I think he is partially responsible for the nuclear detonations in one or more cities. He's brought his family to 'small town America' to be safe from the radiation. That's why he doesn't want his daughter 'partying' with the other kids from the town. Also explains why he didn't disclose to the rest of the people the information on all the cities which got bombed. I think he's going to segregate himself and his family from the rest of society, because he knows more than he's letting on.

More pitiful acting, more stoopid plot "secrets," more of the same.

If someone would drop a bomb on Angst-Filled Grocery Boy, Snobby Conflicted Rich Girl, Whiney Grocery Store Owner, and Cheated-On Dr. Wife, I would be more interested. Gerald McRaney has fallen far from his hey-day on Simon & Simon. Now that? was quality television.

I'm still watching -- I'm haven't been a big fan of the execution, but I'm still a sucker for the show's concept.

So exactly what did we learn last night:

- the nukes weren't deilivered by missiles and were instead somehow smuggled into (or stolen from within) the United States and driven to their targets?

- that a nuke went off in Washington

- the a nuke went off in Lawrence, Kansas but not Topeka

- that the NYPD managed to discover the NYC bomb before it detonated

- that Mysterious Government Man had A) been separated (divorced?) from his wife and not been around, B) moved them from DC to Jericho and paid cash for his new Jericho house (which conveniently apparently already had a fortified basement room) two days before the bombs went off

- that FEMA is "on the job"

So if the bombs were smuggled in and set off within the US by what one would presume to be suicide bombers, where were the counter-attack missiles that were previously launched from underground Kansas silos going? Were the suicide bombers agents of some foreign government and the missiles bound for some of that country's militay installations, cities, etc. or were multiple nuclear missiles (in an apparent example of wayyy overkill) launched at a terrorist camp of some kind?

Eh, it's entertaining enough. Sure it requires suspension of disbelief, but in a time when 24 (the show that set the disbelief suspension bar) can win the Emmy for Best Drama, what's the big deal? And, nobody's going to mistake it for Masterpiece Theatre anytime soon, but I'm willing to overlook hammy acting and questionable dialogue for an hour of escapism a week. Maybe I'm just shallow. This show is getting to be a bit unbelievable to me. I'm not sure if Deal or No Deal is the proper comparison but they have similarities.

1. Unbelievable characters/contestants
2. Jake saving everyone in the 11th hour/Howie making lame jokes.
3. A sick guy laying on the couch/Howie making lame jokes.
4. Nuclear Fallout that just disappears and let's all eat the corn!/Intestinal cramps at Howie and the unbelievable contestants.
5. Bad use of a green screen/Bad use of jokes by Howie.
6. Fake acting/Fake concern by the models
7. A bar that's absolutely not packed every waking moment/a studio audience filled with morons and surprise family members.
8. Secrets of the newest town residents/The Secret calculations of the Banker.
9. Outlaws and Inbreds/Outlaws and Inbreds
10. Jake is unbelievable as an actor/Howie is unbelievable as a host.

Now, where is that new William Shatner show. THAT's gotta be quality. Fooner? Care to join me?

So no one is fessing up to watching this I guess? Well for those that are interested, they didn't blow up the bridge. I know, there was a second when we thought Jake wouldn't save the day yet again. Actually, his brother saved the day this time. Right after he dumped his pregnant wife for the barkeep! You go Don Juan!

I'll still admit to watching and really liking this show. I have to say though that the biggest problem I have with Jericho is the pacing. We have been on for weeks now and have not moved one single plot line toward resolution. They've done a great job of raising questions, but we are closer to answers on none of them, such as:

1) What did Jake do for five years?
2) Who attacked us and what IS the damage?
3) Are snobby girls parents/Roger still alive?
4) Will anyone ever tell Eric his (ex)wife is pregnant?
5) What is the deal with Hawkins?!?

We really need to start moving some of these major issues forward just a little bit. Seriously!

Still, I love the show but it started the season as one of my favorites and is definitely starting to fall back in the pack.

I agree with the pacing of this show. However, it's not like Jake is just trying to save the cheerleader. He's got a whole town and what's left of civilization to worry about. Besides, the cheerleader just keeps coming back for more anyway.

Hi PRE.

RE: #1 - What did Jake do for five years?

I think he was a Green Beret or something. He is too clever by half when when saving the town from disaster - again.

RE: #5 - What is the deal with Hawkins?

He certainly did recognize the Super Hero methods used by Jake.

And what did it mean when "We've been betrayed" appeared on his computer screen? There was something about moving or not being able to meet up with others as well.

Question - How the heck did Hawkins' computer survive that microwave blast? Because it was in his super fortified secret cellar?

Oh.the.drama.

And yes, I confess to willingly watching this show. Enquiring minds want to know who did what, why, when, and how.

Great drama it isn't, but the premise intrigues me. So sue me. HA!

Oh sure, you just liked the crowd of Airplane Zombies walking through the town at the end, didn't you?

So now they've thrown the liquid soap at ol' Peyton Place Germicho, hoping we'll be intrugued by the back story? Piffle! I guess Bombert still has his oil can nuke in the storage area, so maybe his returning side squeeze will tee off his wife via some side twanky and someone will set off a premature explosion to end the pain, or are we going to have to listen to all the screwink nonsense for each individual dork whose gf or bf reappears?

At least there's hope for next weeks "Hang 'Em High!" episode at the LackJack Fairgrounds (so my TV cut out the possible "B", and I like the word LackJack. It's fitting). Maybe they hang the entire town, and the leaky nuke can turns them all into Zombies.

Not only is it back, that was the best episode in quite awhile. I really like this show and the idea behind it, but I never felt like it was going anywhere or actually answering any of the plethora of questions that it posed. Last weeks episode really did answer a lot of those outstanding questions and put us in a place where the plot can finally start moving forward. Now we know:

* Is Hawkins a bad guy? Yep, he sure was - may be changing stripes. But we still have the great tension of finding out if he works for the government, a fifth column group or someone else altogether.

* What was Jake doing? Now we know he worked for Ravenwood and was running contraband, but has always been basically one of the good guys.

Sure there is a lot to be resolved and it looks like there are really interesting new plotlines coming up (which president?....Postman, anyone?). I really like this show and the biggest missing factor has been any plot resolution. It seems that worm has finally turned but hopefully its not too lae to save the ratings on this show.

In vain would that man claim the tribute of Patriotism, who should labour to subvert these great Pillars of human happiness, these firmest props of the duties of Men and citizens. Slumming?

I think this was an opportunity to get rid of some one hundred dollar a day extras. In Hollywood, you just about have to clear a path with a Zamboni, or some tear gas.

On the other hand, we now know who the evil mastermind is:

"Superboy Jake confronts Hawkins (OK, he's the token black guy, right?) after learning from Gomer Jr. that he may not have been forthcoming about his life before Germicho."

For the love of God, If I had a zombie for every time Hawkiewort blabs out: "You don't want to know!" I'd be throwing up so much I could probably qualify for America's Next Top Model.

I think I'm to the point where I don't care about this show anymore. I'm not sure I'm going to watch any longer. I only half watched last night's episode and ya know what? Don't care. I see it being shelved along with Desperate Housewives, 24 & CSI.

Shame, especially since I spent time making this sigpic.

Posted by PagongRatEater on 04-12-07 at 04:06 PM
I liked last night episode a lot. Now we know the who and most of the how, but we still are lacking the WHY. We also found out, well with a 95% probability, that Hawkins is a good guy. We need to introduce a new sbu-plot though and I think that war with the neighboring town should be an interesting one. I do worry about when this show moves from a drama to a civics lesson, but I think that you are right. It is likely to get cancelled before it gets that far.

More twists, more conflict and this concept really could have gotten some legs. But we spent too much time with mundane carp and it may be too late to save the show at this point.

If it makes you feel better, I never have watched a single episode of BB, so it is probably safe.

"Vibe Guy?"
Is the tank coming out of the barn soon?
Is the storyline a bit choppy?

..and was that a dump truck on top of city hall?
*screams*

"RE: *kicks dead horse*"
Posted by PagongRatEater on 04-19-07 at 06:37 PM
DW thought it was a truck but I was thinking maybe a plane....cause how do you get a truck up there?

Actually I like this story line. Getting away from the Hawkins thing for a few episodes and looking at what kind of little wars might happen in the isolation.

But yeah, there's no way a 'vibe guy' lives past 13 in that town.

Oh please, the truck dropped out of the sky after Los Angeles blew up, it just skittered through the sky. Bad landing, but I saw the license plates.

I rather like the storyline too, Hawkins is developing into an interesting character.

"Season Finale"
Posted by PagongRatEater on 05-10-07 at 08:17 AM
Well they certainly left a lot of open questions and ended on a high note. The wedding flashbacks were a distraction as I though that was more about the brothers relationship and this episode didn't really deal with that.

I DO think that they had to kill off Johnston for Jake to step into the leadership role, but it still surprised me. It will be interesting to see what happens when the army arrives and the shooting has already broken out.

We know WHO dropped the bombs but we don't know why and the future of the so-called United States is certainly in doubt. My prediction is that next season Jericho will be folded into this new confederation and that they will have to, somehow, bring down this second government using Hawkins bomb.

Here's hopin' there IS a next season. (rumor has it that CBS will renew and move to a night that it isn't opposite Idol)

"RE: Season Finale"

Not to mention that isn't a fall problem, but I'm just passing along the rumor. I don't care when the show is on, it is definitely one I will keep watching. Will you? Was the end of season cliffhanger tense enough?

You guys are right... Jericho is cancelled. Now we'll never know how those lvoe relationships formed during the show turned out.

Did we ever find out why Dale was so scorned by his schoolmates?

Why did China drop those food bundles? Was the food contaminated with wheat gluten?... or is that just a regular thing nowadays?

Is the United States divided into many countries now?

For all the fans of this show...

There is still a chance of saving this show. Yesterday rumors were rampant that CBS was considering just that. People have sent 30,000 pounds of nuts to CBS (inside joke if you weren't watching the show) and there are 95,000 signatures on the petition to get this show back on. This week is crucial. If you care about this show, or about the networks taking viewers for granted by torpedoing their favorite shows, please sign the petition at http://www.petitiononline.com/09272006/petition.html. Better yet, call CBS or e-mail them:

LAST EDITED ON 06-13-07 AT 09:21 AM (EST)

The first season will be re-run on CBS starting July 6. They will show episode 1, the mid-season recap and then episodes 12-22. If you have any friends who missed it the first time around, this is the perfect time to get them caught up before the new season in the fall.

Nah, youre' exicted. They took awhile to build to something but the second half of the season rocked. This second season should be really good. I'm glad they are re-running it the way they are and hopefully it will pick up new viewers over the summer. Allegedly they will decide after the first few episodes if they are going to order more for the rest of the season or if they will wrap after the additional 7. Rumors of two endings being filmed to close the loop or leave it open for continuation.

If CBS is smart and they decide to cancel the show, they'll have Hawkins bomb go off in Jericho at the end of season 2. No possibility for a repreive then.

Did I see you on the CBS Jericho boards?
