"Craft Corner Death Match"

LAST EDITED ON 03-18-05 AT 03:01 PM (EST)Anyone seen this one? It's on Style channel. Frankly, I give points to any show that cracks me up solely by saying its name. And it isn't bad, particularly if you're like me and are not particularly crafty but for some reason find it soothing to watch others glue glass shards to cheap mirrors (Hello, Crafty Beavers!)...anyway, it's pretty much what the name implies. Sort of Xtreme Crafto-mania. You might wanna check it out.
I'm sure if it's a hit we'll soon see Celebrity Craft Corner Death Match...
Or just say the name occassionally. It'll cheer you up.

There's a Style channel?

You betcha. Some of my favorite fluff resides on Style. "The Look for Less" with good ole Liz Filarski (Survivor alum), "How Do I Look?" with Finola Hughes, another makeover show, but good entertainment, and the inimitable Brini Maxwell show.
Look at all the style I exude...must be the network.

That name is hysterical. Do they race to see who can finish in the fastest time?

They get tossed weird ingredients and are told what to make. Then a twist is thrown in (e.g., the announcer rips of his pants and instructs contestants to make the craft using them). There is a resident dominatrix/craft lady (I am not kidding) who they have to beat for the final prize. I've only seen one and a half episodes, but again, the title alone is worth repeating.
Sort of "Wickedly Imperfect."

Okay. That sounds weird enough that I will have to check it out. Even though it means venturing into some of the 600+ channels that I never watch. A dominatrix/craft lady sounds like a worthy role model to me.

Saturday Night Live is probably kicking themselves for not thinking of it first.

I will definitely have to catch this show. It all sounds so kitschy!Have you ever watched a show called Cash in the Attic on BBC America? They visit people who want to get some extra money by going through their attic, basement, garage, etc. and find antiques. Then they take them to auction and see how much the items sell for. The host is Allister Appleton--he's a real cutie and one of the main reasons I watch.

Honey, you and I are going to have to sit down one weekend and just watch a billion hours of tv, because we clearly (a) watch too much television; and (b) watch the same television. I lvoe Cash in the Attic. I love trolling through the homes of elderly brits. I think all of the little appraiser guys are incredibly cute (although suspect you'd have a better shot at them than moi). One of the appraisers is on House Doctor, too...ever see that?

a)Totallyb)Totally!
I've never seen House Doctor but I know Alistair was a presenter on it.
Alistair (the host)is positively gay (and a buddhist, btw), but I'm not sure about the other two. The blond one has a wedding band, so I'm not sure, and he has a horrible fear of snakes (heh). He is also an appraiser on Bargain Hunt. Have you ever watched that? That's a fun show too.

Of COURSE I've watched Bargain Hunt. That one's funny because the host is so firmly timelocked in 1971. Has anyone ever won any more than about a pound on that show?
Of course Alistair is positively gay; I see a funny, good looking, erudite man who knows his antiquities and I just assume.

If this is becoming an "I love British TV" song, let's not forget their original What Not to Wear. Those two women have no problem with grabbing their subjects boobs and commenting on what she needs to do. None of this poncing about and suggesting clothes for them-they just tell them what to wear. Then there is Changing Rooms. I do NOT want to paint with the stuff they have in Britain. It's a miracle they can get it to pour out of the can. There is one more, but I can't remember the name. They have a psychic who "reads" an item brought in by someone. Then they go to work researching it to see if he has read it correctly and what they can find out about it. Sort of a Haunted Antique show.

The glasses the host on Bargin Hunt wears positively frighten me. And they make those folks sell their finds at general auctions, when specialty ones might make more sense.

I lvoe Trinny and Susannah. The first, the best.
Although Stacy and Clinton have grown on me.

Actually, on the show yesterday both teams won 10 pounds or over. I saw one episode where one team won like 400 pounds. It was the first time that ever happened and was a record for the show.Alistair isn't an expert on antiques. He's learned a lot as the host, but he really doesn't know all that much. He's mainly the eye candy. I read on his website that he did an American Cash in the Attic pilot for House and Garden TV but I guess it never got picked up. Too bad.

So, I finally caught all three episodes this weekend and I officially lvoe this show! The host is hysterical and acts like he's announcing Wrestlemania. I lvoe how he makes contestants reach into his pockets for things.
The judges are great.
The contest itself is really fun to watch. My next outfit is going to be put together using hot glue and broken plate shards.
The 3rd episode was the best, I thought, with the Yoga girl beating the resident dominatrix crafter.

Isn't it great? I don't know if they can sustain it, but the crafts are actually kewl, and the whole Wrestlemania motif is hysterical! Definitely fills that Wickedly Perfect void.

You and Tahj have convinced me to try this. It's still running, isn't it?
Everyone is entitled to my opinion.

I think it's a mini-hit because they show it a LOT now.
