That was a hard rain fallin on the two young cons...I was disappointed; wanted their story arc to continue a bit longer. Thought "Flora" was intriguing.

Got a chance to watch last night.....Loved them beating the brother and sister.
Do you actually understand their plan....I mean I thought they were there to rip off a bunch of people or something...Then all they do is try and take the madam for some cheap jewelry? Then are killed for it.....these two were not real bright!

Why did Trixie go back to Al and give him the gold? Why are all the hookers so dumb? How about the rich New York lady, when is she going to start putting out? Do you long for the old days when opium was easier to get?

Oh, Ginger. I have so many questions?

Is it actually Ginger of the tassles who's reciting the history of Deadwood? I like this show on three levels: 1) it's just good; 2) it's historical; 3) well, I got shot dead already

Too work-frazzled to perform a history lap dance right now, but yeah, what about Trixie, the gold, and Al? Is she buying her freedom? Does she hope this will pacify him and she'll get more from the Widow and then get out? Is it Stockholm syndrome? Maybe she really loves Al ... they have an ambiguous relationship.

I thought the young cons were going to pull something more ornate before exiting, stagecoach left, as well. Still, I thought the violence of their end was spectacular. Plus, it establishes the psychotic nature of the Powers Booth character (whose name forever escapes me) -- by contrast, Al backed off menacing the widow and the kid and the claim. Surfaces aside, Al's may be the cooler, prevailing head.

Anyway, thought it was a great episode. Left me thinking about it for awhile afterword.

"Alma and Bullock?"
Posted by Ra_8secs on 05-18-04 at 04:26 PM
The big question is are Alma and Bullock gonna hook up or not. So Calamity Jane's hitting the road, and Utter's going formal.
And they're forming a gummmint and such. And Joanie's stretching her legs --- (wow, what a sight that would be for me).

I love this game -- er, show.

Give the enormous lengths the writer went through to let us know Bullock's marriage was a gentleman's gesture and that the kid is not, in fact, his, I suspect we'll see them knocking boots before the end of Season Two.

The real Bullock was no where near as dishy, BTW.

I've been enjoying this series as well -- this show is really starting to put The Sopranos to shame -- but would someone just kill the crazy seizure-crazed Reverend already???

I'm kind of hoping so. Every week he comes back with a new, irritating disability. First the seizures, then the biblical ranting, now that freaky eye thing. I say it's time to whip up a batch of Wu's Preacher Pig Chow.

can't stand him! Even when he wasn't sick I didn't care for him. Why do you suppose they're keeping him around? He's DONE.

Alma's dad? Shifty character!

"RE: sooooo sick of the Preacher"

Yeah, we were just discussing Slimey Dad. Do you think there's incest here? Or was? The scenes showed Widow shooing Pa away from little Pioneer child (Sophie?). Also, her "how much you hate them" speech to the child regarding men having private conversations seemed more vitriolic than the subject required. It continues to make more sense that this woman would want to stay in Deadwood and NOT return home (and, apparently, she was a Wild Bill fan way before she met him).
So, is she a con artist WITH Sleazy Pa, or will she be "gulled by her own flesh and blood"?

I was really really hoping Al was going to perform a mercy killing for us there - all he had to do was lob that bottle of Jack off the balcony with a little brute force...

So what's going to happen to the current "Shithead" Mayor? Because history tells us Bullock will go on to become Deadwood's Sherriff.

"Sleazy papa"
Posted by wildchickenhunter on 06-08-04 at 03:06 PM
I thought about the incest thing too. Of course again, Ginger, will have to give me a history lesson as to what was considered incest back then? I mean in Gone With the Wind marrying cousins was considered pretty normal (and still is in many parts of the south).
Really interested to see if this is a two way con between father and daughter or what. You know Bullock is going to catch on and scuttle the plan though.
What is up with Al dumping Trixie. I mean she is a whore so what difference does it make if she slept with Sol or not?

I think Al has real feelings (lord knows what they are, but real, genuine feelings) for Trixie and this was his way of expressing that. And exerting territorial control. Al probably thinks it's because she gave the milk away for free, but I think deep down he is jealous.

Have to get back to you on the historical annotation.

You and I are sleazebuckets, WCH (Sleazebucket of Chicken?), but I suspect you, like me, will draw the line at sites offering explicit pictures of moms and daughters Going Down on Dad. Not a lot of historical information at first glance, just deeply pornographic effluvia.

I thought it was a satisfying season ender. Some things "settled" (like the will-the-widder-and-Seth-ever-shut-up-and-JUST-DO-IT question) and other doors left open. Plus, having Al become the Angel of a Merciful God during the preacher's exit (phew!) was masterful writing. And Jewel and the doctor's dance, with Al seeming genuinely whistful about Trixie...

This show could have been a mess, with the revolving door characters and all, but I thought it was a great first season. I only hope we are not going to have to wait 18 months for the next season, a la Sopranos.

"very satisfied with the finale"

and found myself a bit teary eyed about the doctor as he was praying for the preacher and also have to mention the doctor's dance with Jewel got me a little verklempt. Fine writing-this show MUST win awards!

I finally realized that Seth reminds me of someone at work I could have a crush on, lol-I thought he looked familiar! Al as the angel of death, what a great scene-if you didn't get chills when you saw him embrace the preacher and then suffocate him you have icewater in your veins. He is an incredible actor with an amazing voice. Then again, every member of the cast is sooo damn good!

Thank you for getting me interested enough to watch the show. If I hadn't read the posts about it I never would have tuned in! This is one of the best HBO series yet.

Nice wrap up for the season, I agree Ginger. Lots of open threads for next season. I read they're filming it now (or will start real soon), and it's set to air next spring, about same schedule as this season.

I also liked how the cavalry came to town, and Toliver's "insurrection" seems to have fizzled. Loved Al's line when he was on the balcony w/ toopick: "I'm contemplating my deployments and flankings."

Al is truly the New Character of the season for me. He MADE this show, although the rest of the cast is fine, too.

I feel bad teasing certain friends who were "Lovejoy" addicts because I did not know, then, the splendor that was Ian McShane.

Glad you liked it too, Moony-and you look intriguing in your new headgear...

I'll try to google up how long it will be til next season.

*Later* No idea when next season will start, but my local paper's Jon Carroll column indicates there actually WAS an Al Swearingen. And now I know how/when he dies.

I thought he, of all of them, was fictional - can't find pictures or anything. Have some guesses as to what additional characters we might see soon, though.

WCH does not like history lessons without women dancing on/with poles! Knock IT OFF

Already new that about Al. Have read a lot of the Deadwood History that is online.

I would'nt worry about it luvs, if you recall, the Korean War lasted far longer on television than it did in reality-- so anything we know about Al could take years to come to pass.

I'm with you Ginger. Al is my favorite character as well.

So WCH, you suggest I install a pole in my classroom, so kids in my history classes remember what I teach them? lol, I think Ra might balk at that suggestion.
