"X-Factor USA Judges Home #1 ECST"

Posted by Snidget on 10-12-11 at 07:41 PM
So, real home, or rented for TV?

What shenanigans will go on in this round when there aren't other judges to argue with/override decisions?

They went back to 2 hours from 90 minutes, extra drama, or did Simon's Ego need more screen time?

Keep the answers to these and other questions here until the West Coast wakes up from their X-factor induced stupor.

Rented.

Scripted ones.

Ego.

The East Coast makes no promises on staying awake.

"Are we TARed?"
Posted by Estee on 10-12-11 at 07:52 PM
I just turned on FOX and got -- Tigers/Rangers, fifth inning. Was there a rain delay at some point, or are things just moving at NY/Boston speed? Monday taught me that the network will air the entire primetime lineup once the game ends -- but right now, there's no telling when that's going to be.

The station here said it is rain delayed and Tonight's X-factor will be shown tomorrow? Haven't found web confirmation of this, yet.

Found a web report

Tonight's show will air tomorrow and tomorrow's show will air next week.

So Gregory House is more accommodating than Simon? Wow. The things you never see coming.

They'll have to move something next week in order to create room, though -- we could be looking at a tripleheader. Can the viewership survive? The viewership was already having trouble staying awake...

Well the game starting more than two hours late means they won't be able to start until after 10 pm, depending on how much over the game goes.

Looks like there was originally one X-factor on next week, on Tuesday because of the World Series. They appear to only have Monday and Friday to use next week for the other show. So will House or Fringe get zapped.

Probably.

Game should be over by West Coast time, maybe, wonder what they'll get.

I'm trying to imagine how angry Simon is right now. I've got him at 'You think Detroit is in a recession now? Just wait until I singlehandedly buy and burn the Motown catalog!' Not airing on time, the schedule thrown off between nations, and what little remained of the suspense officially trashed? He may actually be mad enough to put on a different shirt.

Groups to Santa Barbara
Boys to The Hamptoms
Girls to France
Overs--missed which place.

8 girls arrive in France.

Touring around France montage.
Simon on a yacht. More happy for them than for him.

At the house and they all hug Simon and everyone is happy.

Santa Barbara, the Groups Arrive. They say Paula or Nicole, it is a bit girly. Paula gets a group hug.

Down the Coast, Over 30's in Malibu. LA or Simon is the guess from the groups. Slowest Group hug, yet. Now saying how they are glad to have Nicole.

Boys headed to The Hamptons.

Brian does not look impressed. Get some beach shots. Most talent per pound.

"RE: Judge's Houses 2 days"
Posted by Estee on 10-13-11 at 08:32 PM
Brian has the classic rapper attitude in place -- which, on a vote-based show, is going to kill him. Attracting fans? This type does it all the time. Attracting them in the kind of numbers he needs to win? G'bye. And unless street cred equals being thrown out into the middle of one, all his playacting will do is get him laughed at by the real things. No scars, no respect -- and no acceptance.

The real world will not be kind to him. The reality one won't either.

"One Final Surprise"

Each Judge has a friend to help them out.

Nicole has Enrique Iglesias.
Paula has Pharrell.
Simon's guest and not in France, was to be Mariah, but Hurricane Irene grounded her.
LA Reid has Rhianna

Rhianna still tripping, America's never judged rappers in this environment.

Simone Battle
Recap her journey so far.
Going to remember the words this time she says.
Help, slow version.
She says her voice cracked a couple of times, but happy. Simon gets a few of the crew to help, vocal coach and all.

"RE: First set of Auditions."
Posted by emydi on 10-14-11 at 11:24 AM
I love Astro. He went old school on the beat from late 70s Grandmaster Flash...did Astro write the rap himself about bullies?

Will he be bullied at the lives? I think he makes it though. He's different. I think it is a persona but I think he should make it thru.

Simone

I do not like her. Simon i think is going to put her thru tho with the the other one Tara? that the gals hated despite the fact that these 2 are weaker than others

"Astro"
Posted by cahaya on 10-15-11 at 09:13 PM
Astro's definitely got that rap sound down and his moves go right with the beat, looking like a pro out there. He even does a boom box sound effect with his vocals that has Rihanna almost laughing.

L.A. comments that "How could he measure up as a singer when he's not a singer? America has never judged rappers or emcee's in this environment." Finally, somebody in the music industry admits that rapping is not singing.

Scorecard: B for entertainment, even if it's just kid rap.

"Simone"
Posted by cahaya on 10-15-11 at 09:17 PM
She walks out to the performing patio outside dress in what appears to be a black one-piece swimsuit with body lace over it and a golden buckled black belt around the waist. Whoa.

She starts soft, does a few end of stanza vibratos and picks up the volume and tone of the song midway in. Her expression goes along with the lyrics, although it's hard to tell how much real feeling she's putting into it. Vocally, she's ok, with the voice breaking a few times, displaying some technique and range. But as a whole, there's not the same feeling that the Beatles put into it.

Scorecard: C+ for a decent try not quite up to the original and the attire was distracting.

"RE: Auditions Part 2"
Posted by Estee on 10-13-11 at 08:53 PM
Dexter's become an early Worster favorite, as is Lil'Tude... the later because he hasn't sung yet and the former because the potential for total collapse should come from someone other than Paula. If they both make the voting rounds... well, it's not as if Simon hasn't played Cast To Lose before.

"RE: Auditions Part 2"
Posted by Snidget on 10-13-11 at 08:57 PM
From what I've seen of the UK version on You Tube they do seem to like case a few people who are all about making a spectacle of themselves, so Dex may have a chance.

"Anser"
Posted by cahaya on 10-15-11 at 09:21 PM
Their voices blend well together even as they diverge into multiple voices within the song. Their vocal harmony is good, but there’s not much in the way of emotion or entertainment in their performance with it’s lack of choreography. Paula thinks they’re tight and they have a distinctive voice.

Scorecard: B- for good vocal harmony, but lacking emotion or entertainment value.

"Dexter"
Posted by cahaya on 10-15-11 at 09:24 PM
Dexter is singing and dancing to a very upbeat tempo, vocally strong and confident if a bit scratchy. Some of his moves jive but other moves look a little contrived and it gets a little crazy when he puts his foot up on the patio set table! He could use some dance coaching to polish those moves of his. Vocally, he’s got a Motown sound of his own that’s got a nice hook to it. However, he missed quite a few of the lyrics.

Scorecard: C+ for an entertaining if flawed performance, but he needs to get his lyrics down pat and a bit of coaching to polish those moves of his. He’s got massive potential on tap that makes you want to see him at least once again.

"Auditions Part 3"

Skyelor Anderson.
Recap of the track cutting out, Black Country Singer. Dad died of cancer, Brother was shot during a robbery.
Nobody Knows It But Me.
Rhianna likes the dimensions of his voice, says he needs to be polished.

Tora Woloshin
Shows her interest in cars. Pressure taking it's toll. Having trouble with the lyrics.
Satisfaction, punk sounding track of it.
This is the song she can't memorize?!?!?!
Simon says all sounds right but doesn't quite get to him.

"RE: Auditions Part 3"
Posted by cahaya on 10-15-11 at 09:28 PM
Skyelor sings Nobody Knows It But Me by Tony Rich with that distinctive country voice of his. It’s a deeply emotional song that reaches deep inside and you can tell L.A. is moved by it. Skyelor has a fine voice, although it’s not perfect, and an even finer sense of expressing his emotions through song.

Scorecard: A- for a moving song well expressed through his voice.

"Tora"
Posted by cahaya on 10-15-11 at 09:30 PM
She dances as she begins the song in a soft voice, almost too soft, but then she increases the volume as the tempo picks up. She gets better throughout the song as she warms up, dancing in perfect time with the beat. Simon and his three consultants agree she’s star material, but needs some work. Simon says she got it right, but there’s something missing that he can’t explain.

Scorecard: B, for a fairly good performance, vocally sound on key and in time, but maybe a bit tentative.

"Auditions Part 4"

Gahroups.
Made up group of four rejected girls. Pop Country Group. One of them was dropping because she's not into the group., then she reconsidered. Got together at Cari's house and practice. Lakoda Rayne.
Born This Way.
They think something was off when they got done. Hoping it was enough to get through.

"RE: Auditions Part 4"
Posted by Estee on 10-13-11 at 09:08 PM
I wonder how many considered quitting because they refused to split the prize money?

The Canadian spoilers had this one as way off. Jam sessions can create natural harmony -- but there's a lot of luck involved in doing so without practice. Not to mention skill. These groups are fairly young -- how much experience do they really have? And how much more will they be allowed to get?

"Lakoda Rain"
Posted by cahaya on 10-15-11 at 09:33 PM
They sing Lady Gaga’s Born This Way, mixing alternate solo lines and singing in chorus together. They dance in a bit of last-minute choreography as they sing. Surprisingly, they sound pretty good together, but they obviously need more time to polish their act as a group.

Scorecard: B, getting extra marks for a surprisingly good performance of four soloists suddenly tossed into a group.

Malibu, Over 30's.

I don't like her I like the other woman better.

However the over 30s all seemed to be lip synching..weird backup singers/music I didn't like it...the other places sounded better...of course Simon has the instruments....

Stacey's story has already worn on me, just from what they've shown us.

But this isn't the first thing you've said that indicates that there's more to her than her "stay at home mom who never had a chance" schtick. Is there more info out there about her that I've missed?

"RE: Minor editing required."

The short version: has very much tried for a career prior to this, had two ex-husbands with wealth and hasn't exactly been poor for her entire life, been on two reality shows prior to this with one about lifestyles of the Beverly Hills wealthy where she happily boasted about how her latest pregnancy wasn't necessarily produced by her husband and do you want me to go on or do you need a break to be sick?

Kind of makes you wonder just how long FOX can keep ignoring this. This is coming out from enough different sources that you'd swear it had to go mainstream eventually. She's turned her lie into the one and only storyline she's got: derail the first and the second will follow -- with no excuses available.

She sings solo but also gets a chorus as a back up. As she goes into the song, her voice grows boldly louder, hitting the notes with authority. Nicole is liking it and Enrique digs it. After the song, Stacy goes into tears and says in front of Nicole and Enrique that she doesn't want it to end here. Nicole thinks she's great, but she has to overcome her fears and doubts.

Scorecard: B+ for a solid and emotional vocal performance. Her confidence should grow.

"Auditions Part 6"
Posted by Snidget on 10-13-11 at 09:26 PM
Brewer Boys.
Hair flickage.
Only Girl In the World by Rhianna...odd choice, some minor lyric changes.
They talk about how they are good, but sometimes good isn't good enough.

In the Hamptons
Philip Lomax, also performing a Rhianna song to her. He's rearranged it completely. Recappage of auditions past. Worried LA is not looking for a crooner.
Please Don't Stop The Music.
LA says nice. How about that. Sinatra version. Rhianna says it was charming and sure of what he was doing with it. Not sure it works commercially.

"RE: Auditions Part 6"
Posted by Estee on 10-13-11 at 09:28 PM
Not sure it works commercially.

...and we're screwed.

"Brewer Boys"
Posted by cahaya on 10-15-11 at 09:42 PM
They play in charities with Nathan playing what appears to be a mandolin and Justin playing an acoustic guitar. They go straight into a duet, starting on the stools and then hopping up to dance side by side. Vocally, they sound good together in smooth harmony, although their moves look a bit amateurish, not really caring about choreography. It’s a decent performance that gets the nod from Paula and Enrique.

Scorecard: B- for a fine and harmonious duet, but not that entertaining to watch on stage. They’ll want to work on their stagecraft.

"Phillip Lomax"
Posted by cahaya on 10-15-11 at 09:44 PM
The crooning cat in the hat.

He definitely has the classic crooner voice, like he was born in the music era of the likes of Tony Bennett and Frank Sinatra. It’s a flawless performance, meant to entertain, and Rihanna seems to like it. Both L.A. and Rihanna agree it’s a fine performance and truly original. Their only concern is whether it’s commercially viable.

Scorecard: A- for a flawless, original performance. The only catch is that it’d be a smash hit in the middle of the last century, but not in the second decade of this one. Having said that, this guy is highly likable and charismatic as well as being well-crafted.

"Auditions Part 7"

Claiming Part Deux will be Sunday at a special time.
More review of judges homes.

Elaine Gibbs of the Over 30's
Stop Crying Your Heart Out--Oasis, Gospel Version.
She didn't get much air time for that.

Back in France...
Caitlin Koch, Rugby player, recappage of her audition. Sang in Church, close knit family. Quick girl, get yourself a sob story.
Will You Love Me Tomorrow. Slowed Down.
She feels it was enough, she felt it. Simon says pitch and tone amazing, loved the phrasing.

In the Hamptons
Nick Voss, Vanilla Ice Lite. Recapped the loss of lyrics. Gets fired for singing and dancing at work.
Everybody Wants To Rule The World. Starts very weak. Has more voice in parts, but not consistently.
LA says I've seen him better. Says he felt like he hit his zone.

A 53-year old wedding singer with a diva’s voice box. With the very first note, we know where she’s going with this song. It seems like she knows this one by heart and lets it all out. Wow. Nicole and Enrique think that she can make it to be a superstar.

Scorecard: A for a perfect performance of this song with a clear soulful voice that commands the stage.

"Kaitlin"
Posted by cahaya on 10-15-11 at 09:49 PM
She sings in a soft, melodic, almost Irish sounding tone. She’s looking right at Simon when she sings, hitting the vibratos, slides and sustains with ease in the phrasing. Vocally, she’s very talented and Simon says she’s fantastic. She’s not the most exciting singer, but clearly has a unique talent.

Scorecard: B+ for a vocally skilled performance, although she won’t rouse the concert crowds.}

"Nick"
Posted by cahaya on 10-15-11 at 09:50 PM
He’s got an unusual vocal tone that doesn’t ring the notes out clear, but the sound instead seems to be caught in his chest. His voice dips up and down the note register almost like a roller coaster. Rihanna asks L.A. how this performance compared to his earlier performances, as she didn’t seem to particularly like this one. L.A. says he’s heard better and then they both consider whether they’ve just heard a $5 million type of performance. The answer is obviously no.

Scorecard: C for a so-so performance. The way the notes were put together with the lyrics, it didn’t come out very well, nor was it entertaining to watch, either.

"Auditions Part 8"

4shore.
New footage over their audition vocals. (or Boys II Men's version)
If You Love Me. Lots of repetitive choreography.
Paula wants to dirty them up a bit. (that means pink stripes in their hair, right?)

James Kelly of the Over 30's.
Boot Camp Footage. Works like 5 jobs, wants to provide a better life for wife and kids.
Russian Roulette.
Enrique says tough song for a guy, sees him as a rock star.

Alexis Grace was told to "dirty it up" and so she dyed part of her hair pink. She was a shocking elimination for her season. Although I think it may have been Kara, not Paula, that wanted her to be a dirty girl.

They mix solos and duets and choruses with several voices, doing a dance routine all the while. These guys sound great together, definitely in sync and in harmony, in a polished performance.

It’s so polished that, ironically, Paula and Pharrell think they need to “dirty up their style a little bit”. Pharrell notes, though, that they’re very technical and that’s what they need.

Scorecard: A- for a well-refined polished performance done in perfect harmony. These guys could stand to mix it up in the coming weeks, as they’re sure to make it to the voting rounds.

"James Kenney"
Posted by cahaya on 10-15-11 at 09:54 PM
(Watch it, sometimes the closed caption gets the name spelling wrong.)

He sings with intensity, the mike close up to his lips. He's vocally strong and into the song, almost overpowering the background supporting him.

Enrique says that he could imaging James in a Maroon 5 type of setting and Nicole questions whether he'd be a good solo artist instead of a leading band singer.

Scorecard: B for a solid, though not spectacular, performance. Enrique is probably right in that James would be better suited singing in a band instead of solo, with his style.

She sings with a soft sorrowful, yet melodic voice, with her expressions matching the words in the song nicely. It’s a touching song and she does very well with it.

Simon looks pleased. Simon and his assistants are kind of amazed Drew is just 14, saying she has a special type of voice. They think she may be too young, and Simon says it may get hard.

Scorecard: A- for a unique vocal performance that had a certain kind of touching awesomeness to it.

I'm not watching X-Factor but I saw an interview with LA Reid and Simon Cowell on my local Fox station last night.

The most recent round that aired last night was taped several weeks ago. Both of them said it was interesting watching it back weeks later. And both of them said that they sat in front of the TV thinking, "I can't believe I voted that one through." They confessed to being caught up in the singers' stories or personalities.
