I think he's got a chance at the initial voting round -- but given the Top Five Or Death structure of this season, the only way he'll get deeper would be as a wild card. I just can't see him as pulling a fanbase together. Happy Musical Napoleon Dynamite isn't a recognized voting group, and he doesn't feel like their catalyzing element.

At the risk of cross border arson and anything else that the mighty Estee can muster. I LOVE STEVE TYLER. Always have. Thought he was incredibly hot and really on par with Tom Petty who I'm also wildly attracted to. Have no idea how I ended up with the hottie husband I have now.

So far, he's not the worst possible judge and what little I've seen of him here doesn't ruin him as a human. But as far as his sex appeal goes, Your Mileage Is Varying.

I've needed a boost in creativity this year and the lips may just be my ticket. So sue me.

As grizzled looking as Steven Tyler is, there is also something strangely attractive and compelling about him. I've always loved his music and energy. I also like that his comments on AI have been funny and his musical critiques have been pretty right-on.

I haven't felt this emotional in the last 8 years on this bloody show.

You'd think a city so rich in blues tradition like Nawlins would have some budding talent, but I think it got nipped in the bud. Terrible night. Just terrible.

I thought it was nipped last night (or at least nip slipped) in New Jersey.

Two hours last night was bearable. One hour tonight was a mercy.

I have to agree here. No Naw Orleans history belting out its overbearing voice. And I say "overbearing" with the utmost respect. I've been there (1 month before the hurricane) and it's BIG OR GO HOME. I was expecting blues, jazz, zydeco, and all out rock and roll. Not so much tonight. Too many little-uns.

Should I be paying attention now?

Guess I could drag my carcass downstairs and watch AI live with DS and DW. Then again, if I watch it on TiVo later, I can fast forward through the commercials, crappy singers, and Ryan Seacrest. Decisions, decisions.

I forgot AI was only one hour tonight. Guess that makes my decision for me... TiVo it is.

I didn't want to, and don't like to admit it, but I'm kind of being sucked in this year. I think part of it is the novelty factor and the other part was how refreshing an hour show on DVR is. I think Simon had kind of lost interest the last two seasons and it is nice to see Steven and Jennifer's enthusiasm.

Caught up on American Idol this morning. We are at the start of the audition stages, so are seeing the usual mix of incredibly talented vs incredibly misguided contestants. That's not the real news though. The news is that we have have had the chance to see the new judging line up of: Jennifer Lopez, Steve Tyler and Randy Jackson, in action.
