Please keep all Shania Twain themed performances, filler and assorted what not from tonight on this thread until the West Coast checks to see whose bed their boots are under.Just a warning, Man, I feel like a migraine. I've taken something for it. Who knows, I might even see butterfly covered contestants. Oh wait, that was real.
So what's the over/under on the number of times Casey is just forced to take his shirt off?
LAST EDITED ON 04-27-10 AT 07:48 PM (EST)Spoilers from mjs
Lee Dewyze – “You’re Still the One” – Phenomenol – audience loved
Mike Lynche – “It Only Hurts When I Breathe” – Sitting on the staircase
Casey James – “Don’t” – plays guitar, sings in front of judges
Crystal Bowersox – “No One Needs to Know Right Now” – very country, new carpet
Aaron Kelly – “It’s In the Way You Love Me” – on the stool, with a piano
Siobhan Magnus – “Any Man Of Mine – She’s fantastic – blew it out of the park. Her new tattoo is on her stomach.ETA - sorry, posted this in the wrong place...

snack of the night
angelhair pasta with shrimp and peas in olive oil and herbs
Hope you feel better. I don't have high hopes for tonight's show...but then I've never been a big country fan, so that's probably why.Who is this theme supposed to help?
If you say Aaron....Arrrgghh!
The everything we can call them other than singers... only one can take the title. This! is American Idol.
Huge thank you for Idol Gives Back. 45 million dollars. Say hi to the panel of judges.
Well, it's not $70 million like years past, but in these times $45 million is still quite a sum for people to give.
I'm impressed...isn't that around the amount Clooney raised with his Haiti telethon?
Celebrating the music of Shania Twain. Video Clips.
You're Still The One
Looking forward to this one.
Playing the guitar. Started pretty weak, gets into the groove during the chorus. Two phone numbers per idol. Growls the finish.
Randy. Lee Check it out. This is one of my favorite songs. Greatest songs written. Worried about this, you started pitchy and you found the sweet spot mid way. Did a good job.
Ellen. You make every song your own. you couldn't look cuter. All aboard the Shania Twain.
Kara. the sound of your voice makes you sound relevant. Look how far you have come. It don't know if you got in the love portion, but you cracked a smile a few times.
simon. I agree. Absolutely the perfect song from her catalog. You were pulling some weird faces
Kara says to keep that face
Simon tries to finish and they go off to music.
All aboard the Shania Twain. And with that line, I officially declare the Ellen Experiment over. (Sadly, FOX still needs about a month.)
Portia is going to have a few words with her later.
He delivered! Still needs to work on the stage presence. Is it that hard to watch your tape back or sing in the mirror? Still love him.
Yeah, he's one guy I'd have one impression on listening to him on a DVD or download, but a less favorable impression listening to the same song in concert. He does need to find a way to take the stage, even if he has mastered the song.
So which neurological disease has a primary symptom of total loss of lower lip control? What are the judges hearing, exactly? Is it possible for them to make out an actual performance over the relentless grinding of The Pimp Machine? And gee, is it possible the show doesn't want Lee to go home yet?
As far as I'm concerned, I just watched a promo for Shrek 4. "Donkey!"
Probably one of these http://www.wrongdiagnosis.com/sym/facial_paralysis.htmThis one sounds good: Gummatous meningitis
In short, gummy men?It hadn't occurred to me that his problem might be more physical than psychological, but it would make sense.
Might i suggest one gtt, but only (1) of Botox into the lower lip to prevent what is probably a bad habit?
Good sound, good voice, good arrangement, nice pick up there half way into the song to give it some uplift. But he still looks like a stranger on the stage, as if he isn't sure he belongs there, awaiting potentially scathing verdicts from the judges. He passed with flying colors this time, but he needs to just assert himself without fear of criticism.
I don't get Lee's going first. What, AI is being equitable this year?
Has he sung anything without being pitchy?
It Only Hurts When I'm BreathingPimping the tour. Go on sale May 14.
And Shania pulls out the can sing the phone book saying. Gah!
The sound seemed a little off, seemed to mumble at one point. Good performance.
Starts sitting on the stairs of doom. Walks across the stage during the first chorus. Ends with falsetto.Lots of cuts to Shania loving it.
Randy. I think you found that zone. What I love about a great song you did a great job and zone of who you are.
Ellen. I was nervous you taking this on. Felt like Luther Vandross. You really needed to follow her advice and show us the emotion.
Kara. Shania is connected when she sings and you do that to. The melody so beautiful. Changed it just enough to put your mark on it.
Simon. Ellen comparison's with Luther. Good analogy. Performance was a little bit wet. In a musical acting out the words. In other words a little bit girly.
My biggest worry for Michael is that with this song, he's not only in the box, but he's locked it from the inside.
LAST EDITED ON 04-27-10 AT 08:27 PM (EST)Good performance that only got better as it went along. After so many weeks, we see who Michael Lynche is. He's not a rocker, he's not a pop singer, he's got that touch of blues, but most of all he's a balladeer extraordinaire. Thumbs up.
LAST EDITED ON 04-27-10 AT 08:40 PM (EST)Agree with the Luther Vandross point. Go Mike, for doing R&B with a country song.
And Simon, no one knew what "wet" meant.
ETA: I'm confused, I thought they wanted Mike to make the top 4...so why isn't he getting a pimp spot?
Don'tGets the coke stool of doom interview. He watched back his performances, says he will bring something new. Shania says he is missing some confidence. It is a singing song.
I thought that was really sweet and very well done. Finally!
I really enjoyed it. Casey!!! In it to win it?!
Sitting on stool playing guitar. So strong vibrato with his eye closed is really new for him?Randy. Best Casey Performances ever. Hope you really learned something her. Great thing in your wheel house.
Ellen. Same thing, sang that where you belong. I think was your best performance.
Kara. Artists do not hide, you didn't hide you were raw and that is what you need to do to be at the front of the competition.
Simon. Last week was a needed wake up call for you. Your best performance so far. Didn't feel like someone else's song. Give Shania a kiss on the lips.
Arguably his best performance to date (agreeing with the judges), very comfortable in his niche and playing in his zone. Good performance, although still somewhat predictably Casey with his rhythm and tone. So far, so good.
*opens Insomnia Cures file**saves performance*
So what's a non-singing song?
Rap!
or what because I'm so bored right now... so very bored.
It's Shania Twain.
No, it's just Casey. Go back to sleep.(So far, the biggest moment of drama was waiting to see if he could bring himself to kiss Shania on her lips.)
That was pretty uncomfortable. I think he almost kissed her three times, but thought the better of it.
Here, let me write you a different prescription.Take two and post me in the morning.
No One Needs To KnowCrystal on the coke stools of doom.
Crystal says it is a message to her boyfriend.
Rug on the stage, her antique mic stand. String players on stage with her. Nice twanginess to the performance.Randy. So listen. Love the instruments. Like you did a country version.
Ellen. I say it every week, nothing you can't do. not my favorite performance, but you are brilliant and always good.
Kara. I agree. It is impossible for you not to be good. Always feels honest. Not your best but you are still amazing.
Simon. Could get in so much trouble (from bigger not always better). I've seen this happen in the coffee shop that sings when you don't want them to. I didn't feel any conviction. I thought the song was forgettable compared to the others. Only week I really didn't like your performance.
Agree with Crystal...not as "big" as her other performances.Crystal needs the votes this week....eeeeek!
I think the "not big" thing was totally intentional, as she admitted. I get the feeling she wanted to try her hand and voice with a "low key" song, something that would spell the doom of most contestants.
I agree with the judges on this one, not the usual Crystal.
I think her health cycle may be approaching the nadir again: there was something off about her face. It won't surprise me if she spends the next few days in bed -- and the show reschedules to save her. Again.
A very understated song, but intentionally so. It's like yet one more track she could put on a Billboard 200 ranked album. I liked the arrangement, key and rhythm, uniquely Crystal and out of reach of the other contestants. Did I love it? Not really, but her performance was pleasing to listen to and watch, as if it were an interlude between two other songs that bring the house down.
Agree. And they can't praise everyone or it wouldn't be AI.Are they testing Crystal's fan base?
Who gets Tim's voters? Besides VFTWers, that is.
Aaron next, so Siobhan gets the pimp spot!VFTW can claim victory...
You've Got a WayTried to make him feel more secure about what he was doing.
Why is he getting such good singing placement?I don't get it!
LAST EDITED ON 04-27-10 AT 08:53 PM (EST)Aaron looks and sounds different tonight. I wonder what's up. He literally looks different to me.
LAST EDITED ON 04-27-10 AT 09:06 PM (EST)Yeah, it's like he grew up and matured a year in a week.
LAST EDITED ON 04-27-10 AT 10:02 PM (EST)Well you called the Aaron and the country singing bit zazzy. Randy Jackson calling him "our" country singer...really? Gah!
I was bored tonight and I don't have a migraine nor am I on drugs (or even had a glass of wine!)
Oh dear, it really was that coma inducing?
On a stool, Gets a nice visual effect. Piano on stage. I think the sound guys don't love him, because something sounds off in the mix. Guitar guy sitting on the edge of the stage. Big note at the end.Randy. This is your wheel house our country artist this year, good job.
Ellen. This is going to be tough. Everyone is doing well. You are OMG16, no 17 so not as impressed. Good job.
Kara. I agree, you really felt those words. Changed that one line and I appreciated that. He says he was singing it to his Mom.
Simon. I'm going to be honest. I know you are only 17 you have struggled the last couple of weeks. Tonight you were like a different artist. This is the kind of record you should make. It felt sincere and didn't feel like you were singing someone else's song.
Best performance of the night
well, so far....
I think it will stand.
Oh jbug, I couldn't disagree more. Has he ever sung without being pitchy at some point in the song?
but you have to agree, he was really good tonight. i was never a fan of this boy. but tonight, i was absolutely impressed.
Nope, I just don't care for his singing. Every so often there's someone who really turns me off and this season it's Aaron.I've long been wondering why he was even in the top 24, much less the top 12 and here we are at top 6 and he's still there! And from the looks of DI, he'll be there again next week.
John Stevens went out at 6th his year and that gave me hope.
Now I'm wondering if I totally overlooked AI's wanting to load yet another male singer into the country "lane"--the country lane for young teens, perhaps?
agree
Melodic.Heartfelt.
Potentially fatal at full duration.
Well, what a pleasant surprise with Aaron in his groove. This is a week he could have just gone average like in weeks past, yet he connects in this song unlike we've heard in a while. Smart kid who's still growing. Thumbs up.
So far, this week they've been as good as they were bad last week. Nice change. So far.I am by now an unapologetic Bowersox fan, and I enjoyed her performance tonite too. One would have thought that she would blow away C&W week, and maybe she was a bit subdued. Still great though.
No Twain wreck this week.
Look at the clock. Whatever Siobhan gets told about her performance, she'll have no time to respond to it. If the bus is being revved up here...
Any Man of MineSays she needs to put some character in it to make it come alive.
Back up singers and some kind of lap instrument on stage. Does a walk behind the judges.Big long held screamed note at the end with a big finish.
Randy. I loved it. Loved the punk country look with the big notes. I loved it.
Ellen. Why to pull the Shania Twain into the station. Good way to end the show.
Kara. Guess who's back.
Simon. I really liked that song. The screaming gone a little bit too (randy talks over him) almost like you were giving birth. That not in isolation something else. It was ufn.
Siobhan fell in with a good arrangement and rhythm that accentuated her voice and vocal power. She moved around lot more this week, almost distractingly so with the poor camera work, but her performance was spot on. I remain a fan of hers.
I was distracted by the part that went ???, squeezing, ??? (can't remember the words) but you could tell that those words were meant to be sung in a punctuated fashion. It struck me how hard it is to really, really learn a song a week and deliver it in a stellar fashion. So, I liked parts of it and parts I didn't care for.
Any man of mine better walk the line
Better show me a teasin' squeezin' pleasin' kinda timeYeah, that's a lot to squeeze in two bars. I thought she did ok with it.
Yeah, that was magnificent. She didn't hold back tonite. I am hard put deciding who the worst performandce tonithgt was. Aaron? Lee? Casey? Actually this should be the week no one goes home.Editorial: Please ban the words "You know what I love about you?" In fact ban the word "You". At least for one week, make the judges have to do their jobs without using the word "You". Might force something original from Randy and Kara.
She. Can. Move.Country meets punk and has a three-way with gothic. How many segments of the population can Siobhan throw into confusion at once? Beyond VFTW, which has to go into Serious Rationalization Mode?
Tomorrow should be Aaron's night. But there's no promises...

I'll leave it to someone else to do a shout out for Lee or Aaron, thankyouverymuch.
You must have a serious lack of good music tastes to be pimping M. Lynch when he was by far the worst of the night. Siobhan on the other hand was excellent tonight!
You must have a serious lack of good music tastes to be pimping M. Lynch when he was by far the worst of the night. You may prefer sweet and sour and I may prefer kurma and tandoori, yet neither are bland and both are acquired. The lack of taste for either is not a serious matter.
