Please keep all text only graphics free (other than emoticon) discussion of tonight's show on this thread until after Midnight when the West Coast has seen the final pimped performance.

For those who decide to contemplate the death of the idols rather than their own. Raptor Jesus made a Photochop that might be of interest. It is about halfway down the page.

Judges walk across the stage.

Ryan comes down the stairs of doom.

Shout out the person you love the most.

Clap for the judges.

Bring out the top 10.

Back up singers on stage.

Ryan called them Missy Elliot Boots.

She'll sound good for a moment then not, goes in and out of that. Really not her best performance.

Randy. Big song, big voice, pitch-wise all over the place. Love the courageousness, not your best performance. Kinda rough.

Ellen. I could see you looking at us when you went off a bit. To start of the evening with you is like desert before the meal.

Kara. Got nervous, screaming worked. Lower register wasn't strong enough. Have delivered every week, so entitled to an off night. A great singer.

Simon. Sounded like to me you had run a marathon and singing while you were out of breath. All over the place. Why would you boo when I said the right thing. Look all over the place. I'm just being honest. If this was the first time I ever saw you and you are kidding yourself if you think it was good. It wasn't and I'm getting tired of the screaming at the end.

"RE: Siobhan Magnus"
Posted by Snidget on 03-30-10 at 08:16 PM
Ryan asked about her choosing the song. Simon says it is manslaughter of the song.

She wanted to take a risk.

Ellen thought it was a great song, but once she went off she went wrong. The screaming was like gilding the lily.

Kara. I think you were scared and weren't concentrating in the moment. Can't forget she has delivered every other week.

Randy. We love you. You could have sung that great.

Will this ever end...

And then the clip of Siobhan behind the scenes? A new pimpage tool...only this one was unkind.

I'm not even waiting for the judges' comments here.

She cuts through and joins in with the background vocals and band. I'm familiar with the original and she made a good attempt to make it original of her own in just a week. Usher was totally right about her.

"Mega-depimping."
Posted by Estee on 03-30-10 at 08:20 PM
Even on her bad nights, she's still ahead of half the field -- but while I could pick up on a little bit of slip across the verses, it didn't feel like she fell off anywhere near as much as the judges perceived. In fact, by the time her criticism hit the one-hour mark, it felt more like we were being set up for tomorrow's Shocking Elimination.

The screaming was, however, at least semi-uncalled for.

"RE: Mega-depimping."
Posted by Sues on 03-30-10 at 08:39 PM
I agree with Simon on the screaming....I totally disagree with Kara on her lower registers, I think her voice is lush..

Again before the judges... nice week's work for a Chicago-ish band sound and vocal (and they didn't even cover the song). He's no Terry Kath, nor are his vocals great. He's a band man, not the soloist. Good follow up to Siobhan to energize the night.

Back up singers on the other side of the stage. Horn section on stage. Playing the electric guitar.

This is really the first time I've really liked his voice on a song.

Randy. Yo listen. Make this short and sweet. Stayed in your element. Loved the song. Showed a lot of range. Perfect choice for you.

Ellen. You are consistent you are always good. Great voice, good tone. Loved your vocals. Felt a little generic. It is true. You sang it great, but it is a safe zone.

Kara. What you are picking up on is you only use this much of your range. These limited songs do not show us how much more you can do. Just sing and show me everything you got.

Simon Wanted to be honest with you. Last week I was in disagreement. This week it was your strongest week. I liked the fact you didn't do what you did before, a sound alike. R&B song showed a different side of you. Sounded authentic. Impressed with you.

"RE: Casey James"

1) did you catch Ellen's expression before Randy started giving comments? She's been sucking lemons again, the same look before she comments on Tim most weeks, hug for Tim aside.

2) Wow, hadn't really noticed the difference in Ryan standing next to Casey but tonight, really got it!

3) Simon gets Casey this week. No one mentioned how entertaining Casey was, how he smiled and sold the song...he enjoyed himself so we enjoyed it. At least I did. And possibly MC, too. ;) So much to work with tonight, MC!

In short, the judges' table doesn't quite capture it all, even the song.

"Hold on --"
Posted by Estee on 03-30-10 at 08:30 PM
-- the show's agenda is coming... It's as if they've decided that despite the female eliminations we've had so far, they really need to get a male a little farther along. And he's such a generic singer: any band, any time, but no label attached or someone's gonna sue.

Meanwhile, over on DWTS, the stupidity of the American voting public has once again reared its exceptionally ugly head. I'm not feeling very good about tomorrow -- these things run in streaks.

Sitting on a stool playing guitar behind the judges. Ws pretty nice.

Randy. Sensitive song. You are in the zone. Loving every performance. Look it wasn't as exciting but good to show your sensitive side.

Ellen. I don't like when people sing behind my back. That was beautiful.

Kara. I hate to admit I never heard that song. Did an incredible job with it. Mastered the intention of it. Tasteful and lovely.

Simon. This is probably the first time since the live shows where I can take you seriously as an artist. It is a little bit gloomy, and not one of my favorite songs you demonstrated the difference between original and having a moment and being a silly karaoke singer.

"RE: Michael Lynche"

I prefer it when he's higher-energy, so for me, this performance was a slight drop from prior weeks. But it still let him showcase his skills -- and he's got more range than most of the males. *cough* Casey *cough* He should survive this week. Except for America being stupid.

Standing center stage with bright spot on her.

I like Angry Didi better than sad Didi. Sang it OK, but something was missing for me.

Randy. I loved this song, but it flatlined for me. Just keeping it real. It wasn't great. I was waiting for any kind of moment and it never quite caught.

Ellen. Boo myself. It was dramatic and I love your voice, that was way dramatic and not your best performance.

Kara. Overdone girl. When you first came to us with the singer songwriter thing. You've lost your way. I don't know who you are. It leaves me puzzled.

Simon. Cue lots of boos. It was like swimming in jelly. It was so over the top and old fashioned and off melody. That is an incredible song with a great climax. You lost your way. You are no longer contemporary. Listen to one of those dancing shows with someone murdering a song it was like that.

AND, for the record, besides the cawing girl last year (Megan Joy?), she is one of the WORST singers EVER on AI! IMHO, anyway. Sad, but true. She murdered that song in a way that left me almost broken! That is one of my favorite all-time songs (has a very special meaning to me, too), and I don't know WHAT THE HECK she was thinking, or WHO THE HECK is mentoring her, but man, did she EVER blow it!! Sits on the Stairs of Doom.

Starts a bit weak but gets bigger with the chorus. Slowly walks across the stage.

I liked it. Prepares for carnage

Randy. Pluses and Minuses. Singing Waiter thing. Felt so pedestrian. Not searching for the best we can find. It was in tune, layed flat. no swag. No vibrato on the love. you can put a little grease on it. Fell flat.

Ellen. I heard there is a drinking game so I am going to call you adorable. Why did you chose that song. Tough song to sing. Walking like sneaking into a bedroom. Don't try to be so sneaky, we can see you. Oh boy why did you take that on.

Kara. Broadway at times. Vegas at time. took the soul out of the song. Made yourself so uncommercial. I don't understand why you keep doing this.

Simon. He is laughing because it doesn't matter what we say. Inappropriate song. Mouse fighting with an elephant. you will smile the audience will vote and you will be here next week so well done.

Tim says they were nicer than he thought the judges were going to be. Ryan and Randy have a yo-off.

Simon really is trying to get as far away from Ryan as possible.

"RE: Andrew Garcia"
Posted by Maroonclown on 03-30-10 at 09:13 PM
Given the blacklisting of Chris Brown, don't you think that this might be his death nell?

Brown can't even get a club to host his birthday party. The guy is toxic. I can see that transferring over to innocent, little Andrew.

He's finished. Doesn't matter how pretty he sang the song.

"RE: Andrew Garcia"
Posted by Snidget on 03-30-10 at 09:15 PM
Bass player on the stage. Box drum guy on the stage and a string section in the sway bot area.

Singing this better than he has sung anything in a long time.

Randy. Here is what I love. Andrew is back. Lvoe the outfit. Mad dope. Dope to take Chris Brown and turn it into your own.

Ellen. Finally just on it's own a strong performance. Love when you smile. Poster in my dentist's office.

Kara. nothing makes me happier than to say that is a huge leap in the right direction.

Simon. Miles better than what we have heard from you for week. The only problem I have with you is you come over as boring. Compare Andrew to the guy before, trying to be constructive. Ryan get back. I know nothing about you as a person, and personality is important.

Back up singers on the stage. Drowning out Katie some of the time.

Horns on the other side of the stage. What is with the shorts and the black patent pleather leggings?

not sure I liked that but not sure why.

Randy. I know you are mad young. Disconnected vocally. Best vocals of the night. Showed you have the pipes. Embrace that. Moments small moments need to make it one big moment.

Ellen. Snooki Poof. Vocals Great. Great Voice. Wish it were a little more current. Sound mature, but want it younger.

Kara. Where you belong. R&B Pop. Gotta make it young and commercial.

Simon. For Randy to compare you to Christian is crazy. Randy...Kara....She is pretty good. Very robotic. Came over as cold. You are a young girl, gotta make it fun. A little bit, I don't know. Star Search. Kara interrupts. The advice Kara gave you wrong. You are not this kind of artist. I'm being biased, but I would take my advice.

Judge fight! Judge fight!

And Simon missed the memo: no promoting Star Search 'cause Paula was never actually going to do it, just like she never actually said anything she was ever quoted from. You'd think he'd be used to that pace, but...

Soooooo...Lee is next and then all we have left are Crystal and Aaron, right, with 30 min left in the show.

So that means the last 4 to perform tonight are:

Katie, Lee, Crystal, and Aaron. I'll cover the data in the pimpage thread, but AI has a track record of loading then last 4 spots of the top ten with those they want in the top 4. And at least 2 will get there.

Lee must be ready to show some growth. Sure hope so.

That's it! It finally hit me. He reminds me of Collin James.

But to comment on the walking pneumonia, are we going to start focusing on every sickness that travals through the Idol lives? It's getting as tired as the back stories.

I knew he'd been holding back.

Simon's sly reference to "something's happened" in regards to Lee's being reserved before this...and wouldntchaknow...the story about Lee's grandmother was circulating this week. Sorry, so cynical about the way AI manipulates stuff.

They've been waiting for the top ten to have Lee show his stuff and for Simon to say "this is the night that will change your life". Anyway, glad he rose to the occasion .... he sounded a little Springsteenesque at times. More, please, Lee.

This show will never end....

Playing the acoustic guitar. Too fake rocker growly on the on song for me. He is loosening up a tiny bit.

Randy. Yo. Yo. Lee. Check this out. This is great right here. Unbelievable. Best I heard you in weeks. The Bomb.

Ellen. Now the night has started. Best performance of the night.

Kara. Brought the song into you world could be on your album.

Simon. I always believed in you. Frustrations and difficult to make eye contact. Go home tonight and watch this show, this is the night your life may have changed forever.

I felt that about 1/2 way through the song he finally got his groove. I could see a difference in his eyes, that he finally believed in himself and that he should be there. eta: It was after the first chorus.

Hope he can keep that going!

Playing the piano, with back up singers at the side of the piano.

Starts out quiet. Gets loud with the chorus and gets up to sing standing. Oooooooo that high bit was a bit wonky.

Randy. Love the outfit, the stilettos. Working on a record with Gladys. Loved seeing you play the piano. Great performance.

Ellen. You are always great. Another side of you. Wonderful idea.

Kara. I'm so glad you took that risk. There is so many things about you that I love.

Simon. I think the choice of song was sensational. Vocals incredible in moments. Uncomfortable with the piano and the back up singers old fashioned. Do not let this suck the identity out of you. All I am going to say that it is rare that you know what you are doing. With your talent and your personality do what is comfortable for you.

Pllleeaaase can we stop telling them to become someone else? This woman should NEVER wear heels, the dress could not be further from her style. Simon is dead on and Kara needs to stop trying to make mini-me's...

That said...I cannot wait for her CD

Felt like there was some presto chango booth on the side of the stage where they turned Crystal into the classic AI contestant.

Please! Don't Barbie her, AI!

"RE: Crystal Bowersox"
Posted by Estee on 03-30-10 at 09:51 PM
'Another side of you, another side of you'. Fine -- but all of her sides sound pretty much the same. She has skill and a base talent, but there's less variety potential than I originally thought. And I originally thought she was a subway singer trying to work on a professional stage.

Good -- but limited.

"RE: Aaron Kelly"
Posted by zazzy on 03-30-10 at 10:09 PM
Hey, I know you like him but I don't get it. I can sit through most of the AI good and bad but for some reason I want to change the channel when he sings. I keep wondering why he's there. I didn't listen to last week's performance yet so maybe if I heard that I'd get it... a little. But I didn't care for David Archuletta most weeks, either. At least Aaron doesn't lisp or whatever it was that David A did.

"RE: Aaron Kelly"

I like Aaron because he's everything I thought was wrong with Archie - I thought Archie's lips were too wet and weird, Aaron's are not. I thought Archie was too nasally, Aaron is not. I thought Archie's face was wierd, Aaron's is not.

I'm thinking Aaron is everything that I liked about Archie and has remedied everything that I didn't like about Archie.

Clear as mud?

Alone on the stage, but saw the band guy do the tinkly bits.

Seems a bit pitchy here in the middle to me. Off into the I knows. That's theatrics? *recalibrates theatrical meter*

More of the how thy make the tinkly noises.

Randy. Started rough. Worked itself out. Jsut alright.

Ellen, If I had that much confidence at 11. Really good job.

Kara. I liked it, I wasn't in love with it. Could have gone higher in register and energy.

Simon. Compare to the really good performances it was like a cup cake. I've heard that song sung brilliantly on this show. No chance you are leaving the competition.

He'll live through the week -- but his total life expectation is starting to come into question.

Way not to joke, Ellen. He might wind up obsessing about that 'eleven' line for a while. Like the next twenty years. In therapy.

Aaron, what a pity pimp, that wasn't pimp spot worthy. Should have been Lee based on performance.

"Antique Shoppe"
Posted by Maroonclown on 03-30-10 at 10:15 PM
R & B. The music of the Shoppe’s gods. Nothing says “rhythm” like a slow, steady R&B piece. Lawdy lawd. That slow build-up, a steady increasing beat that goes exactly to that place where you know its heading.

MC heads out to the back yard. That damn pole has blown over and the clothesline is on the ground. She hates when that happens. She struggles to get the pole under the line. She has a lot of laundry to get done. MC hates chores but Casey hasn’t recovered enough to give her a hand.

All of a sudden she hears the strains of the guitar working its way through the Shoppe and out the back window. Good thing MC threw open the sash. Casey begins to play a slow ballad and MC knows just where this steamy afternoon is heading.

It’s gettin’ mighty hot out here in the backyard. Trying to get the clothes hung has become such a chore. She needs a massage on her shoulders. She thinks she may have, ahem, pulled something.

MC – Casey? Sweetie? I think I hurt myself out here with the pole. Can you help?

Casey – I’m just finishing up in here. I’ll be out in a second.

After a few moments Casey appears in the backyard with a basket. MC takes a peek.

MC – Mmmmm, wine, olives, hummus, pitas, cheese and pate. Who the hell have you been talking to? This is my favourite thing to do.

MC rest her hand gently on Casey’s arm – “correction, ONE of my favourite things to do”

From his back pocket Casey slides out a bottle of baby oil.

Casey – Your shoulders must be hurting from hanging this laundry.

MC – Mmmmmm, yes, why yes, indeed. Thanks so much for asking. Jeans from someone so tall, Casey, can get pretty heavy straight out of the wringer-washer. Where would you like me to lie down?

Casey leads MC over to the blanket under the big old oak tree. It's better to be in the shade for the afternoon.

The heat of the sun can be drying – but only to the clothes.
