Although I generally check in on American Idol each season, I don't normally follow it enough to comment in these threads.

However...

I am familiar with a family that has had to make rather abrupt plans to travel to Los Angeles after their son auditioned for this round. They won't give out much more than that. But they are tickled mauve about something regarding American Idol and their son.

I'll name names if/when the fellow gets airtime

Your smile bothers me

A co-worker informed me that one of his close friends auditioned in Dallas and made it through to Hollywood.
Can't remember the guys name, will find out.

Jason's brother was spotted trying out again back during the audition tour, so that's been known for awhile.

I don't know how far he makes it, but there has been a huge buzz around Benjamin Bright (we saw him very shortly in Boston, from Rome, NY... resides in the muchhhh upstate NY). It may be just that he is from my area on the map, but it is a much larger following than that of last years' local Nathaniel Marshall.

Here is the latest list, there has been a lot of people being put on and off the list as a lot of people are starting to twig in that the spoilers are out there so tend to be a bit cagier about hiding their status.

Although I think some have been confirmed as their myspace or other social networking got taken down/locked.

Top 24 Contestant cut after dad talks to newspaper

Maybe Big Mike will sue his dad over potential loss of income? That's gotta svck.

Why are they showing Big Mike as one of the top 24, even on the idol web page, if he got booted? Seems like they would have announced his replacement tonight and certainly not listed him in the top 24 on the web page.

Apparently Mike didn't leak his name to his Dad.

I saw an explanation from the Dad where he admits he normally doesn't have contact with his kid. His kid never told him he was on American Idol.

He saw a spoiler lists in the news and then was bragging about seeing it there.

He didn't generate the leak, and if he and Michael never talk, Michael probably never got the chance to tell Dad to not say anything to anyone.

Additionally. Mike being cut was reported as "news" by a lot of sites that reposted the RUMOR mentioned on one of the spoiler sites and it was clearly marked as RUMOR and not confirmed. Any news organization reporting it as if it were a known fact just aren't paying for fact checkers anymore.

"RE: AI9 Spoilers"
Posted by grit on 02-18-10 at 10:40 AM
Thanks for the explanation, snidget. I was wondering why he was still shown as Top 24.

I like him but I don't think he's the best. I also suspect that if they continue to over-pimp him I will come to hate him.

But I think the guy needs a chance. I would hate for him to lose that chance because someone talked when they shouldn't have.

I guess that explains why the link to the article above says "page can no longer be found" when you click it.

I remember seeing the story on Yahoo when it first came out. Guess Mike Lynch got a second chance.

Quite the concentration of states:

For the 12 guys, only 5 states:

Aaron Kelly, Sonestown PA
Tyler Grady, Nazereth PA

Alex Lambert, North Richland Hills, TX
Casey James, Dallas/Ft. Worth TX
Toddrick Hall, Plainview TX

Jermaine Sellers, Joliet IL
John Park, Northbrook IL
Lee DeWyze, Chicago IL

Michael Lynche, Astoria NY

Andrew Garcia, Moreno Valley, CA
Chris Golightly. Los Angeles CA
Joe Muñoz, Los Angeles CA

.
And for the girls, 8 states:
.

Ashley Rodriguez, Boston MA
Siobhan Magnus, Cape Cod MA

Crystal Bowersox. Chicago IL

Haeley Vaughn, Fort Collins, CO
Lilly Scott Denver/Boulder CO

Janell Wheeler, Tampa FL
Michelle Delamor, Miami Beach FL

Katie Stevens. Middlebury CT

Katelyn Epperly, West Des Moines IA

Lacey Brown, Amarillo TX
Paige Miles, Houston TX

Vered Didi Benami, Los Angeles CA

And no GA/TN/NC/SC/MS/KY/ARK/ALA contestants, either. FL and TX will have to pick up the slack for the south.

Combining guys and girls, 10 states represented:

Aaron Kelly, Sonestown PA
Tyler Grady, Nazereth PA

Alex Lambert, North Richland Hills, TX
Casey James, Dallas/Ft. Worth TX
Toddrick Hall, Plainview TX
Lacey Brown, Amarillo TX
Paige Miles, Houston TX

Jermaine Sellers, Joliet IL
John Park, Northbrook IL
Lee DeWyze, Chicago IL
Crystal Bowersox. Chicago IL

Michael Lynche, Astoria NY

Andrew Garcia, Moreno Valley, CA
Chris Golightly. Los Angeles CA
Joe Muñoz, Los Angeles CA
Vered Didi Benami, Los Angeles CA

Ashley Rodriguez, Boston MA
Siobhan Magnus, Cape Cod MA

Haeley Vaughn, Fort Collins, CO
Lilly Scott Denver/Boulder CO

Janell Wheeler, Tampa FL
Michelle Delamor, Miami Beach FL

Katie Stevens. Middlebury CT

Katelyn Epperly, West Des Moines IA

Talk about vote splitting! Michael Lynche, Katie Stevens, and Katelyn Epperly get a leg up just for not sharing their state with anyone else in the top 24.

ETA: Tim Urban is from Duncanville, Texas, no new new state represented and that makes 6 of the top 24 from Texas and 3 from CA. Good thing TX has a lot of population to support 1/4 of the top 24 contestants.

"Webpage slip up"

I noticed pages for the Seven were up on AI's website.

Apparently at some point the whole top 24 were up.

Golightly didn't have a page and Tim Urban (has anyone seen him) was up.

He got a lot of early pimpage with the whole orphan story. His hair was blonder Hollywood week than during the auditions.

"EW has learned that American Idol’s Top 12 contestants will perform the music of the Rolling Stones next week. During an ad break at the top 8 guys performance show, Ryan Seacrest taped a radio promotion in which he mentioned that the first week for the 12 Idol finalists will feature songs by the iconic British rock group."

Song Spoiler

10. A source at the party told me Siobhan Magnus will sing “Paint It Black” next week during Rolling Stones week. “I’m so excited,” she exclaimed about performing a tune by the classic Mick Jagger fronted band. “It kind of makes me feel back home with my band, back to my rock roots,” she said.

And in cross promoting other reality TV shows on other networks news

1. Andrew Garcia will propose to Christina, his girlfriend of four years (and mother of his three-year-old son), if he wins “American Idol.”

So does that mean I should vote for him to win because that is the only way she'll trap him, or vote so he goes home to avoid this mess.

I'm hoping it is just some confusion and it is just a performance on Weds.

I've heard some chatter that it would be cool to have a former idol winner with a bunch of awards and several albums with hits like Kelly Clarkson come back and mentor. But last year's also ran who has a few post idol shows under his belt as a mentor...

No. Heck no.

Didn't Dancing With The Stars beat AI in the ratings last week? If so, there is probably some sweating going on with AI and its advertisers, because when advertisers buy the airtime, they are promised a certain number of viewers and if the show doesn't deliver the viewers, the network has to give "make goods" (free ads) to get to the right numbers.

AI might be a top show, but there are big #'s riding on it.

Adam, they postulate, will be a huge draw for them. IMO the mentoring thing is taking it too far, especially after having Miley and the Disney kids one week.

Adam's album, FYE, has gone gold, selling over 575,000 by now. One of his singles is still gathering steam (What Do You Want From Me has sold gold), while Kris has had a single go platinum and is approaching one of the top ten selling Idol singles, having sold over 1.2 million so far and should be over 1.5 million by summer. (Kris's album, on the other hand, hasn't reached gold in sales.)

There are many other former AIers who should be a mentor for the contestants before Adam (Kelly! Or Carrie. Or Daughtry.) This move to have Adam be the mentor is about numbers. Ratings/ad $ numbers, that is. That way Lambert fans tune in for two nights, and not just performance night.

I can already imagine what Aaron is going to sing and I don't like it. I will have to FF through that part if my "wise" guess is correct. It would be "foolish" for him to sing a song so beyond his ken.

This is not a song spoiler (I haven't found one yet), zap2it thinks Aaron Kelly should take a crack at "Can't Help Falling in Love With You".

Archie-wannabe Aaron seems to have a penchant for schmaltzy ballads, so we're putting on money on this song for him. And not the up-tempo UB40 version either. This is going to be cheese-fest to the max, filled with big swelling notes on "take my hand, take my whole life too" and the tween girls and their cougar moms will lose their minds.

"RE: AI9 Spoilers : IGB"
Posted by zazzy on 04-08-10 at 08:19 PM
From Wikipedia:

"Idol Gives Back will return on April 21, 2010 during the Top 7 results show on season nine.<15>

So far, Jordin Sparks, Alicia Keys, Carrie Underwood, The Black Eyed Peas, Annie Lennox and Jeff Beck have been announced to appear.<16>"

MJ'sbigblog made a reference to IGB being next week but that doesn't make sense because Ryan would have been hyping it already if it were next week.

If Wiki is correct...with IGB being part of the results show... suggests to me that no one gets booted that night...Michael John's boot came on a results night that was after the IGB night.

So double boots next week and again two weeks after that? So suddenly we're at the top 5?

CASEY JAMES-- Long Tall Sally? Johnny B Goode? Jailhouse Rock? or is that what Andrew attempts? Or Aaron? And why do they make Casey go in the pit? Arrrggghh.

SIOBHAN MAGNUS

ANDREW GARCIA

CRYSTAL BOWERSOX

LEE DEWYZE Suspicious Minds?

TIM URBAN see Aaron's comment

MICHAEL LYNCHE In The Ghetto?

AARON KELLY --thank goodness, this doesn't sound like Can't Help Falling In Love With You. Maybe Tim sings that one? Don't Be Cruel?

KATIE STEVENS --even People mentioned Kat McPhee here

Aaron...I'll Be There by Jackson 5, he's the same age as Michael when they recorded it or some country song...

Timmeh...What a Wonderful World or What the World Needs Now is LOVE but it would be a true VFTW Victory! if he sang I Will Survive or Don't Dream it's Over!

Siobhan-Walking on Sunshine or Holding out for a Hero or I Hope you Dance

Mike-I Believe I can Fly

Crystal-Dream Weaver

Lee-Higher by Creed bc it's the closest thing to Nickelback, he'll nail it...I hope he doesn't pick Drive by incubus and ruin that song

With comments from Mjs

*There was an orchestra on stage

Casey James – Don’t Stop Thinking About Tomorrow – Fleetwood Mac – Typical Casey, plaid electric guitar–playing was awesome

Lee Dwyze – The Boxer by Simon and Garfunkle – Had to sing twice due to tech difficulties, acoustic guitar, backup singers and

Tim Urban – Better Days by Goo Goo Dolls – Really good, his best week. Belting notes! Played acoustic guitar

Aaron Kelly – I Believe I Can Fly – Wasn’t pitchy, but very karaoke

Siobhan Magnus – When you Believe – Mariah and Whitney from the Prince of Egypt – Thought she was amazing, did pure soprano high notes. Butterflies on her arm, strapless dress, purpley water-colored

Michael Lynche – Hero – Alt rock version, probably Chad Kroeger feat. Josey Scott – Sang it with acoustic guitar, glory note at the end.

Crystal Bowersox – People Get Ready by the Impressions – started a capella no guitar – weird microphone stand and evening gown. Some pitchiness.

Its just a great song, with an amazing melody. He could easily add his own spin to it while being faithful to the theme.

yep 2 songs at F4....but Casey can do more Bryan Adams, puh lease!

I could handle these songs:

* Arthur’s Theme (Best That You Can Do) – Christopher Cross

I love this song

* Danger Zone – Kenny Loggins

not horrible

* Don’t You Forget About Me – Simple Minds

LOVE THIS if Lee Nickelsucks this song I'll throw up

* Eye of the Tiger – Survivor

Big Mike could wear a Mr. T wig!

* Flashdance (What a Feeling) – Irene Cara

Love it Pgh movie!

* I’m Alright (Theme from Caddyshack) – Kenny Loggins

Lee could bring in a woodchuck to play the wood blocks from elementary school music class

* Into the West – Howard Shore and Annie Lennox

Anything Annie Lennox is okay with me

* It Might Be You (from Tootsie) – Stephen Bishop

love this too

* Take My Breath Away (Love Theme from Top Gun) – Berlin

not too bad

* We Don’t Need Another Hero (Thunderdome) – Tina Turner

love this I thought Siobhan should have done this for R&B

* You’ll Be in My Heart – Glenn Close & Phil Collins

not too bad Aaron could have done this

I'll guess:

Crystal--Let The River Run (Carly Simon)

Lee--Don't You Forget About Me (Simple Minds)

Casey--Up Where We Belong (Joe Cocker) or You'll Be In My Heart (Phil Collins)

Mike--have You Ever Really Loved a Woman or Everything I Do (both Bryan Adams)

I wonder if they do have them sing duets, if they will put Lee with Casey so Simon can pimp Lee over Casey.

That would put Crystal with Mike.

If Crystal is with Casey, I can see the two of those singing "I've had the time of my life" because Casey can sing low enough for that one.

From Joe's Place Blog

“Maybe I’m Amazed” by Paul McCartney is what Ellen Degeneres chose for Crystal Bowersox.

Kara and Randy pick “Daughters” by John Mayer for Casey James.

Simon picked “Hallelujah” for Lee Dewyze

"RE: Judges Picks for the Top Three"

Simon always picks a song that people will vote for. Can Lee sing this without being out of tune?

Thank goodness Crystal can Crystallize "Maybe I'm Amazed". And it's not as well known as Daughters and Hallelujah.

Wonder why Ellen picked that (and did Ellen really pick or did the producers pick for her?).

Hope Casey keeps bandzilla and backup singers at bay with Daughters.

Part of what idolforums reports from People.com which reports on rehearsal:

"Idol‘s Top 3 Rehearse Songs of Their Choice

LEE DEWYZE: Singing a soft, harmonic staple chosen by Simon Cowel, Lee strummed his guitar while standing behind the mic stand in sneakers, a blue sweatshirt and red baseball cap. A chorus line of background singers surrounded the rocker on each side. DeWyze joked that he should be lifted by a harness to look like he’s flying. For his second song, he performed a sentimental rock classic that he sped up a bit. Changing the vocal arrangement slightly, DeWyze raised the bar by picking the perfect tune for his voice.

CRYSTAL BOWERSOX: Holding a guitar, and with a harmonica strapped to her neck, Crystal practiced with her signature mic stand, warming up a tune by a female artist she admires. She started the song with a few seconds of solo harmonica, then the band and backup singers came in strong. But Crystal delivered her second tune without her guitar or mic stand. Standing middle stage she successfully reached Janis Joplin-like territory with her strong, high, whiskey-soaked wail. She quickly shifted effortlessly into a smooth note that she held and held.

CASEY JAMES: In a bright blue shirt and holding his guitar, Casey was accompanied on stage by his amp. His upbeat tune started with vigor, kicking into a solid groove that will have people on their feet and dancing. On his second song, a piano is wheeled on stage and placed on the left, while an additional guitar player sat on the right. James doesn’t change the arrangement of the song much, though it is paced slower than the original. After only two takes and a quick check to make sure he had the bridge correct, Casey looked like he was feeling confident"

Ethridge for Crystal?

Paul Simon for Lee to reprise "The Boxer?".

(and I wouldn't be surprised if Lee had help in picking that song to begin with and won't be surprised if he reprises it on Tuesday. It's his theme song, ya know.)

And ??? for Casey. Will it be some fab guitarist?

Crystal chose “Me and Bobby McGee” for her first song. Fuller had her sing “Black Velvet.” As for the song she’ll release … it’s called “Up to the Mountain.” Crystal stopped dead in her tracks in the middle of the song and started over.

As for Lee, he chose, “The Boxer,” and Fuller selected “Everybody Hurts.” As for the song he’ll release if he wins … it’s called, “Beautiful Day.”

As Lee finished “Beautiful Day,” a violinist accidentally hit him in the body with his bow. Lee was upset and walked off the stage …. even before the pretend judges could weigh in.
