I just want the judges to stand up as one, hoist their Coke cups into the air, slam them together, and simultaneously cry "VETO POOOOOOOWER!"

I'm exhausted, and lazy tonight, so it's comfort food.

Drink of the night

Beer - Stella Artois courtesy of my neighbor.

Snack of the night

Loaded french fries (baked - not fried). For my neighbor - broccoli, some exotic, white, crumbly cheese. Me: bacon, cheddar, sour cream and diced red onions.

Your loaded fries sound wonderful. I am going with giant jar or plain M&M's/peanut butter M&M's...this should be an interesting sugar high.

For those with low tolerance for ego: never watch Simon Cowell and Marco Pierre White on the same night. It's taking everything I've got not to declare war on the UK.

Lives will change, Double elimination tonight. And what is this new rule.

These are your results and this is american idol.

"RE: Intro"
Posted by Snidget on 03-11-09 at 08:04 PM
He has the results and he isn't going to tell us about them.

nearly 33 million votes.

Say hi to the contestants. Kanye West performs and Kelly Clarkson, too.

Intro the judges.

Here is the twist.

Look at those "gone too soon".
The judge'a save. From now to the top 5 they can save one contestant one time by unanimous vote. Once used it is gone for the rest of the season.

The week after will be a double elimination.

"RE:Important"

They save one contestant - ONE - for the season. The season.

Only one veto the whole season. I'm disappointed to a degree.

Yeah. Too bad Daughtry and Tamyra went out fourth. Maybe they should've given themselves that power through the top four.

When did JHud go out? (That season is such a blur.)

Yep. I couldn't not focus on the visually impaired guy throughout that number. Tough to choreo. Am I overly sensitive to the lyric: "I must have been blind", they were singing?

At least it is Jackson Five songs...they are already made to be sang in harmony by a group. Didn't butcher that as badly as some of the group sings.

Is it me or did they lip-synch that? Do they always lip-synch the group numbers?

"RE: Group Sing"

I thought the same thing - at least in the group sing bits. When one of the singers had a brief solo, it looked genuine though.

"RE: Group Sing"

Michael. Stand up. You are safe.
Allison. Stand up. You are safe.
Jasmine. Stand up. Come down to center stage and hang tight.
Matt G. Stand up. Starts heading down to stage. Stay there dude. Sit down you are safe.
Kris. Stand up.
Megan Stand up.

America voted and Kris have a seat. Megan to center stage.

Jasmine vs Megan one is safe one going home unless saved.

Megan, you are safe, go sit down.

Jasmine is going home, unless she is saved. She is going to sing while they chat about it.

I'm actually a bit saddened that she was sent off this early. Granted, she isn't in the top half of the group, but I could think of at least two or three others who I thought should have gone home first.

Kudos, Jasmine. You've got a future ahead of you.

I really feel like they did her no favors by keeping her this long. They could have sent her home during Hollywood with the advice of getting a voice coach and in a year or two she could have come back and completely blow the competition away.

Lovely girl, but struck me as a bit of a princess. She'll enter state pageants, go to a good college/grad school, find a lawyer/doctor/senator husband and be fine.

Good point.

"RE: So Home, or Saved"

Maybe. She is young and still has ample opportunity to polish her vocal skills and performance persona. It'll depend if she wants to go that route. Whether she would ever make the charts, though, is another matter.

And she'd be better off not marrying either a doctor or a lawyer, both professions which their practitioners see little time at home or the road.

Don't think so. She just isn't going to starve to be Hollywood skinny. She's been pretty vocal about keeping her normal weight.

"RE: Kelly Clarkson"
Posted by Maroonclown on 03-11-09 at 08:58 PM
I agree about keeping her normal weight. She was always curvy but she's substantially bigger than she was even when she was on the show.

And for the record, I don't think Stacey and Clinton would have approved.

"RE: Kelly Clarkson"

There went my theory about PR's voting power.

"RE: Results part 3"
Posted by bullzeye on 03-11-09 at 09:01 PM
I clearly missed the fact that they have one, and only one save for the season. I interpreted it as they could save one person, only once.

"RE: Results part 3"
Posted by cahaya on 03-11-09 at 09:05 PM
That's initially how I interpreted it, i.e., a max of one save per contestant, such that if a contestant got voted out twice, they were certainly done.

"RE: Results part 3"
Posted by Snidget on 03-11-09 at 09:06 PM
Maybe it is because I read the news on the front page.

They tried this out in France with their Idol. It is one save for the whole season. That way they don't save people every week making for a lot of double eliminations.

"RE: Results part 3"
Posted by cahaya on 03-11-09 at 09:09 PM
At least at this stage of the competition, if someone isn't really outstanding or show great potential in the weeks to come, I think they'll hold that save for a while.

"RE: Results part 3"
Posted by frodis on 03-11-09 at 09:13 PM
They only get to hold it until the final 5, right?

I think many of the more "shocking" boots have been #4. Not all, certainly.

It would have to be a really, really shocking boot for them to use the veto, I'd think. Still, it does add an interesting element. It would have been foolish to use it on #12 or 13, though, since I don't imagine that someone who goes out at 12 (or 13) is really worth a save.

"RE: Results part 3"
Posted by bullzeye on 03-11-09 at 09:26 PM
When did (Australian) Michael get voted off last year? I honestly believe that this rule change has its roots in his early boot.

"RE: Results part 3"
Posted by frodis on 03-11-09 at 09:40 PM
He was one of the before-4 boots that I was thinking about, too. I think he was somewhere around #8. Maybe 6? I think you're right that his early ouster was a consideration for this new "pardon from the governor" rule.

He made me feel all squishey. His is the only Idol song I've ever downloaded off of iTunes. (It's All Wrong but It's Alright.) *sigh*
