"What do you think of the CI 32?"

I watched last nights show and hope that somebody rises to the top. I was happy to see that one French girl who impressed me early on is going on.

Three is the perfect number.

I must say I'm very impressed with the talent we have.

I was surprised at a couple things. The guy that couldn't remember his lines got through and the girl that had to "babysit" him did not. They must have based their decision entirely on past performances in his case. The girl looked rather shocked.

The couple that whipped through "Islands in the Stream" like they were singing "Happy Birthday" were terrible, and they weren't any better after the judges gave them a second chance and told them to belt it out. They got through!

As for the final four from last year, I'm sorry now that Ryan won, because it was Billy that really blows me away with his voice and his style. He got the most audience reaction, too.

I didn't get to see it! Who else of note moved on?

Do the performances start next week?

I didn't understand the choice about the babysitter and her partner either. Even if they did base the decision on past performances, the judges noted that he had not yet sung a single word all week (he has forgotten the lyrics in almost every performance). Shrug. Did they not have enough guys to choose from?

Keeping in mind that this kid got to stay in the competition, I was amazed that the very attractive young man (kinda long hair, buffed up guy) with the deep voice like the Crash Test Dummies lead singer was booted. This guy had the looks and everything going for him. Since they didn't show his duet, I am guessing he really really bombed. He had forgotten the lyrics in the group presentation too.

Along the same lines, why is that tall guy with the curly hair still in this thing? He can't sing a note, and always sounds like he's straining to get the words out. I noticed Sass mentioned she wasn't impressed and that he changed key a zillion times in his solo performance, but she was out-voted by the others. If they are looking for a somewhat attractive guy to draw an audience, they could have at least found one in this group who can sing (see above).

I am really liking the vocal style of one young woman with long hair and glasses. She's got a great hippy style about her and she clearly understands music. I hope she gets over the nerves and obvious insecurities, because I think she could be a dark horse in this competition -- especially if she gets a stylist to help her peek her face out from under that mane of hair. She could almost have an Edie Brickell thing going on.

Don't get me started on farmboy. Nice voice, when he can remember the key and the words. But otherwise, geeky and in serious need of some style.

Overall, I am impressed with the eclectic group here. Some rapper style, some jazzy style, some great R&B potential (that couple on whom they practically had to throw a bucket of cold water during the duet -- "this is a family show" -- seem a little old for the competition, but each has great harmonics in the voice and some silky smooth tone), some Celine Dion wanna-be types, some pop singers, etc, etc. One oriental girl who sang with that crazy guy with the pierced lip, she blew me away.

And I agree about Billy. He was may favourite by far last year, and the reason I kept watching this show. I understand he has a single out (or coming out) of his cover of Levon. That performance last year sent shivers along my spine. I love the kid, and hope he does very well in his career.

Oh, and Ben totally out-classes Ryan
