On time here as usual. How are you guys doing south of the border?
Just a quick review of each booted team so far, then a little montage of the snowboarders before we move on over to the finalists. First up, Ernie and Cindy. Next, Sandy and Jeremy. And finally, Amani and Marcus.
because we needed to see every.last.second of the Packers blowout of the Raiders.
LAST EDITED ON 12-11-11 AT 09:08 PM (EST)Final Destination = Atlanta, Georgia
Ernie and Cindy remark that Amani/Marcus will have a big advantage since Atlanta is their home.
Most of the States delayed forty-one minutes. One of these seasons, I would dearly love to see a team take their starting clue from Phil and then stand frozen on the mat. No talking. No movement. Just the bare amount of breathing necessary for survival. For as long as it took for him to ask what they were doing, just so they could whisper "We're waiting for the football game to finish."
We're listening to Obama on 60 minutes - now at 7:08 (central time)
Have you noticed how many people go to their home city and don't know any of the places used by TAR?When TAR did Toronto I knew every place they went except for the ship, and I knew the wharf where the ship was docked.
How many of you knew the places used by TAR when they used your home town?`
When TAR has been to New York, I've known the places. The original TAR ended in Flushing Meadows by the Unisphere, a place I've been hundreds of times.
Team struggle to get a taxi to the flight simulator.
LAST EDITED ON 12-11-11 AT 09:22 PM (EST)Bunching point at the airport, of course.
First stop at a Flight Safety Simulator center to learn how to land a plane safely. One team has the presence of mind to ask the taxi driver to make sure there is a full tank of gas.
You must keep up your speed.
And stay on the runway!!!
A&M have problems following the script and the runway.
That's a pretty cool task, if you ask me.Marcus goes completely off the runway upon landing. Nope.
Sandy/Jeremy nail it and get the clue first, they are to go to a landmark called "The Dump" which is a clue relating to the book "Gone with the Wind".
LAST EDITED ON 12-11-11 AT 09:21 PM (EST)Ernie and Cindy successfully land and get their next clue.
Marcus and Amani are still stuck on the simulator.
Looks like Marcus has had it drilled into him one too many times - "When it's inside the two-minute mark, go out of bounds to stop the clock!"
Is it just me or does Marcus look like he is not slowing down once he lands, I never hear him mention brakes, flaps or reverse engines.
Yeah, you're right. They're just going down hard, not slowing down at all.
He was expecting to get tackled!
"I think it's one of the old Home Depot stores"
(in reference to asking someone if he knew what the former residence "The Dump" refers to)
It's a furniture store... Sandy and Jeremy run around the store and get nowhere.Meanwhile Ernie and Cindy arrive at the Margaret Mitchell home which is where they were supposed to go to. They are to type a message on an old fashioned typewriter which will give them their next clue to chase.
I wonder how long they wandered around the store. I get that someone directed them there, but it was clearly a warehouse furniture store and no one ever lived there. I'm surprised they didn't figure it out right away.
Young ones these days can't use anything if it is not electronic.
LAST EDITED ON 12-11-11 AT 09:33 PM (EST)I remember when my parents bought my brother and me a new electronic typewriter for our first years of university, one of the first models to come out!
Nowadays, the young'uns are using Swype to post messages...
Thanks for posting this. We're still watching Warren Buffett talk about his son on 60 Minutes. At least we won't have to sit through Andy Rooney.
The clues are getting interesting. After Ernie finally figures out where the missing "1" is and is supposed to use the lower case L in place, the clue says:
44 - 715 - 74
Which is in reference to Hank Aaron (uniform number 44) hitting homer number 715 in '74 ... which would mean they have to get to Turner Field.
Of course, any Atlantan who knows a thing or two about sports would figure that clue out in a hurry.
Marcus finally lands the damn plane on about the 112th attempt!
We have seen this type of task before, but this time it looks like it is a lots more physical.
And then the taxi cab driver using GPS makes a mistake!
How does an Atlanta taxi driver not know where a historic landmark is?!?!?
LAST EDITED ON 12-11-11 AT 09:45 PM (EST)Love this final clue, really creative for a change...
At Turner Field, one member of the team is tethered to a rope and have to hop around a big map of the world, 100 feet off the ground, and pass a rope through the locations they went to on this season of the Amazing Race.
Cindy has nailed every stop of the route on the first try.
They are now racing to the finish line at "The Swan House", a historical landmark.
Jeremy missed Indonesia on his first try, skipping over into Thailand from Taiwan.
...are Ernie and Cindy!
The Final leg had some very challenging clues and tasks...Too challenging as it led to a very dull leg.
I'm happy Ernie & Cindy won! They were my favorite team left -- and they were a strong team!Jeremy & Sandy lost when they got bad directions from a local as to where "the Dump" might be. Don't entirely blame them as I remember advertisements on "The Dump" -- as in The Dump store -- a lot, but it really cost them the race.
As for Amani & Marcus -- they really should have had Amani do the task! And Marcus should never go out for pilot training!
Belle Book
I wondered if at some point they would switch and let Amani try to land the plane, or if they were locked in to their original choices.
You know, now that I think of it, it's possible that once you chose who would be the pilot and co-pilot, you were locked in to the original choice! That might be the only reason why Amani & Marcus didn't switch.Belle Book
Winners: Ernie and Cindy
2nd place: Jeremy and Sandy
3rd place: Amani and Marcus*waiting for the next season of TAR*
