"Who let the Chenbot in?"

From our own coverage: 'In addition, the new season will feature a twist in which the team that finishes first during the Race's initial leg will receive "a surprise, game-changing advantage," according to CBS.

Uh-oh.

Okay -- this could be almost anything. Nightmare level is 'eliminate the team of your choice right now'. Nearly as bad would be 'Here's a Fast Forward. Use it on any leg of your choice up until the next-to-last.' Subtle could include 'Switch off on the one Roadblock of your choice.' Middle might be 'Skip one Roadblock of your choice without penalty -- after you've already tried to do it.'

Ideas?

The Arctic Circle? Cold bunch points ahead.

Maybe they'll get a 30-minute time credit if they have a broken ox. Or a spare Trabant. Or free counting help from Lori & Bolo on a roadblock task of their choice. Or an "open sesame" pass which allows them to enter a location otherwise closed due to hours of operation. Or a team exception from the Chip & Kim roadblock split rule.

Or based on the look and quantity of younger female teams, maybe their first-leg advantage is an extra $50K bonus for posing for Playboy after the race.

Could be interesting. Could also upset the balance of the show.

Or a team exception from the Chip & Kim roadblock split rule.

I thought about that one: the effective power would depend on which team it winds up with. The power to switch players during a Roadblock might have more long-term effectiveness, but making it a perpetual power produces its own issues...

'Open Sesame' is an interesting one: it basically turns into 'skip one bunch point.' The two major problems with it are staff-related (the producers have to hire people to be there at all hours) and task-tied (some things just can't be done in the dark). But timed properly, it could be better than a Fast Forward.

Or based on the look and quantity of younger female teams, maybe their first-leg advantage is an extra $50K bonus for posing for Playboy after the race.

I think you're severely overestimating the basic Playboy paycheck: that bonus is twice your average centerfold's compensation.

That sound you hear coming from the midwest is the written idea of a lonely crab stolen again...

This could be 'game-changing', especially since the concept is that if you're last in a leg, you're either toast or soon-to-be-toast because of the Speed Bump...

Free Pass (actual title TBD): The holder of this can finish last in a future leg (up to Final 5 or 4) and not only be spared from elimination, but also they're spared from the Speed Bump in the following leg. One-time use.

Huh. It's a relaxer for the team that gets it, but it's potentially more than a little unfair for whoever finished next-to-last on that leg. Do you give them the Speed Bump? Toss them off the course? Plan out the route so that you can create an extra leg as needed, figuring the advantaged team will finish last at some point? Calibrating the course with this trick is a feat in itself.

I've heard it's something called an Express Pass. I heard it on the Reality Fan Forum website.

Which really sounds like it lets you either skip something or go around it...

Yeah, I think it lets you skip a Detour or Roadblock.
