Awwww. I liked the "Ha Ha Haaa Ha Ha Haaa ... NO!" much better than this week's repeated stamping of big red 'X'es as a rejection.

LAST EDITED ON 11-29-09 AT 09:21 PM (EST)Cool. Watch every team metamorphose into blooming idiots for not figuring out that these letters translated into Franz!
Chekhov was one thing, Franz is a lot easier and he's more famous as well.

Very weak effort, Big Easy. You are the weakest link. Bye bye.

Yep 4! is only like 24 combinations if you just don't let yourself over frustrate.

Idiots!

Mental puzzles just aren't BE's thing. They really should have been eliminated when they fell all the way behind because he couldn't figure out to try the time on the watch.
"RE: WTF???"

Most unexpected thing I think I've seen on TAR.
Surely he could have found the combination of letters in less than 4 hours!
As much I as don't want to see the brothers in the finale, the GT deserved to be eliminated.

If it is going to take you 4 more hours to figure it out...then just sit with your buddy and enjoy the wait?Globetrotters take the penalty for not completing the roadblock.

Man, they've really gone soft with the speed bumps this season. You call that a tough challenge, down a shot of absinthe?Meanwhile, that screaming you hear is Gus watching on TV and wishing he could have done this in his season...
"RE: Speed Bump--Drinking games!!"
Posted by PepeLePew13 on 11-29-09 at 09:28 PM
Gus must be curled up in a fetal position by now -- one of the detours is to deliver 30 glasses of beer in a Prague pub.

Hope you can't store up the grave-spinning things that happen during life. 'Cause they'll have a hard time getting him in the ground with the rotational energy built up in this episode.
"RE: Speed Bump--Drinking games!!"
Posted by AyaK on 12-01-09 at 11:39 AM
You forget the obvious. All of the events took place in one night, within much less than 8 hours (since the first two teams started after 10 PM and finished in the dark, though sunrise was around 6 AM). Flight Time & Big Easy started out about 90 minutes before Brian and Ericka. They said that Brian arrived at the Kafka challenge about 2 and a half hours after them. Thus, the speed bump was a one-hour penalty in a leg that probably took about six hours to complete for Megan and Cheyne. That's a huge penalty. But maybe it's not so big if your opponents take a Kafkaesque four-hour penalty.
"RE: Speed Bump--Drinking games!!"
Posted by Snidget on 12-01-09 at 12:58 PM
The time taken to get there and get back would play more of a role in this leg where there wasn't a major bunching point before the speed bump.I know the speed bumps are more of a time waster than a challenge, but it would be nice to see something where there was a good chance people would have to do it a couple of times rather than something it seems pretty much everyone will always get right on the first try.

Absinthe is pretty gross. Black licorice alcohol. Yuck.

I've had that flaming absinthe like they had when I was in Slovakia. It was really fun and a lot of the alcohol burns off.

Yeah at first I thought "this is a much easier detour choice!" but then not only do you see how far Brian/Erika had to walk with the trays of drinks, but also had to fend off drunken Czechs trying to reach out onto their trays to grab a drink.
"RE: Charles Bridge--Detour"

This is one time I think a Racer was completely justified in being nasty to the locals. I'm with you, Ericka tell 'em off.

"RE: Dumbest Move Ever"
Posted by PepeLePew13 on 11-29-09 at 10:24 PM
Wonder which was dumber... this move or the one by the sisters last season where one of them stopped for a pee break during a footrace to the pit stop?
"RE: Dumbest Move Ever"
Posted by kidflash212 on 11-29-09 at 10:31 PM
Definitely this one - the sisters didn't know how close behind the redheads were and it can hurt when you try to hold it. I know everyone hates Dan but his move was brilliant tonight - he completely psyched out Big Easy and helped eliminate a physically strong team. Don't think he did it conciously but by telling him only the first letter, I think he messed up Big Easy - making him wonder if he was lying about the first letter.

Island near the Charles Bridge
"RE: Pitstop"
Posted by PepeLePew13 on 11-29-09 at 09:42 PM
I recognize the place! I was there in the Czech Republic and Slovakia in '93 when my brother got married to a Slovak girl.
"RE: Pitstop"
Posted by Karchita on 11-30-09 at 03:16 AM
I didn't recognize that island, but I sure recognized a lot of the rest of the scenes in Prague. What fun! I am certain I was in the pub down the stairs where they delivered the beer. I was in Prague in spring of '90, just a few months after they dumped communism and people were actually singing in the streets they were so happy. Then I was in Slovakia and elsewhere in the Czek Republic about five years ago. That area is one of my favorite parts of Europe.
"RE: Pitstop"
Posted by PepeLePew13 on 11-29-09 at 09:45 PM
Cheyne and Megan are team number 1. Each have won a 52-inch LCD TV, and Phil clearly stated that they will be one of the final three teams racing for a million dollars.Goodbye, Globetrotters. Even if they don't accept Sam and Dan's broken statue, the brothers should still have plenty of time to go back and fix it and get back before the Globetrotters' four-hour penalty is over.
Now... who's going to start a "It's okay to bash the black guys" thread for not knowing the name "Franz"?

Snidget didn't manage to Google a reference in time.
It's part of the golem legend. You write emeth on the forehead to get it moving. Erasing the first letter changes it to meth -- old Hebrew for death.
"RE: There's a rare event."
Posted by Snidget on 11-29-09 at 10:17 PM
I thought maybe the racers had finally driven you right past drinking and all the way to hard drugs.Apparently someone at the Urban Dictionary site has heard of that term

"Finish Order"
Posted by Snidget on 11-29-09 at 09:55 PM
1. Megan and Shane. Each get a 52 inch TV.
2. Sam and DanDaylight
3. Brian and Erica Poor Bartender had to wait by the closed bar for them.
4. Reading Is Fundamental aka Hooked on Phonics Works for Me aka the Globetrotters
And they get the go to the pitstop without doing the freezing or the detour.

Didn't see any challenge that looked like the "remember every country you visited and task you performed in the right order" task that has become tradition. Wonder if they figured the racers have caught on by now and would be making notes.
"Anyone else have the feeling"
Posted by IceCat on 11-30-09 at 02:31 AM
... that something was edited out of this episode? When the team that did the beer challenge they hopped in a cab to return to return to the first pub to get their last trays of beers.
As soon as I saw that, I figured they would be assessed a penalty at the pitstop.
Now, when they arrived at the pitstop, Phil said 'You're the third team to arive...' and it looked like he was going to same something else but they cut him off and go to a reaction shot of the team in slo-mo.
When they hug they stop and then she looks at Phil and her expression changes and I swear that she is saying 'What the hell...'
The editing is really, really odd here.
I'd swear they told them that cheated on the beer delivery challenge and made them sit out a penalty but didn't include it in the final edit for some reason.
"RE: Anyone else have the feeling"
Posted by kidflash212 on 11-30-09 at 07:22 AM
Possibly but I think Nathaniel & Herbert were so far behind that the 30 min was up before the four hour penalty. Since the Trotters didn't have to do the cold storage thing (just as well - I don't consider them eye candy) the show would only have footage of Brian & Ericka sitting at the Pit Stop and footage of the Trotters sitting at the Roadblock. Not exactly riveting TV.
"RE: Anyone else have the feeling"
Posted by Estee on 11-30-09 at 07:24 AM
I was waiting for the penalty too. My guess was that the Globetrotters were so far behind, B&E's sitout time had no chance to knock their taxi-riding selves off the course: the producers decided there was no point in trying to build suspense. It'll be a good question for their interview.
"RE: Anyone else have the feeling"
Posted by dabo on 11-30-09 at 10:49 AM
LAST EDITED ON 12-01-09 AT 10:49 AM (EST)Editing. There would have been no drama with the Globetrotters so far behind. So we got a few more minutes of Flight Time and Big Easy and a montage of many of their best moments.
The Harlem Globetrotters are, after all, primarily entertainers.
Poor Phil, though. Unless they planned a 36-hour Pitstop he probably had to jump on a plane as soon as possible to get ahead of the racers.
"RE: Anyone else have the feeling"
Posted by AyaK on 12-01-09 at 11:56 AM
I agree. Had there not been a penalty, Phil would have told them that they were team number 3 when they arrived. As soon as he said "you are the third team to arrive", I was sure they were going to get a 30-minute penalty for taking the cab. But maybe not.The bar was closed already when they got there with the second beers, though it was still dark. I figured the bar probably closed at 5 AM. Since Brian and Ericka started the leg at 11:40 PM, they'd probably been going for about five and a half hours at that point, including the speed bump.
As far as Phil's schedule, I'll bet Meghan and Cheyne finished at around 3 AM and Sam and Dan around 4:30 or 5. Brian and Ericka -- even if they were given a 30-minute penalty -- probably finished no later than 7 AM. That shouldn't be much of a problem for Phil.
"RE: Anyone else have the feeling"
Posted by dabo on 12-01-09 at 12:29 PM
Yeah, I've no doubt you are right. But when the Globetrotters got to the next cluebox it wasn't "go to the deep freeze" it was "go directly to jail do not pass go..."
Meaning -- the producers are paying attention to the logistics in real time; the timing of getting the next leg underway, getting Phil ahead of the racers to film his bits and be at the Pitstop (in this case the Finish Line) on time.
"Sequestered at Pit Stops?"
Posted by samboohoo on 11-30-09 at 09:19 AM
When they arrived at the Speed Bump, Megan and Cheyne did not seem to know that it was Brian and Erica who got it. Something else happened earlier this season where teams appeared to not know something. I think it was when the Trotters gave a recap of Mika and Canaan at the Slide. Is it possible they are sequestered at the Pit Stops?

They were probably asleep by the time B&E got to the Pitstop, and B&E were probably asleep when M&C got up and left.
"RE: Sequestered at Pit Stops?"
Posted by byoffer on 11-30-09 at 02:15 PM
I wondered the same thing, and Dabo is prolly right with the explanation. The same could happen with the next ep, as my guess is that M&C are many hours ahead of B&E after the beer spilling challenge.
