Please keep all sigpic free discussion of tonight's very special American Idol, Amazing Race Cross-over special on this thread until the show has finished airing on the West Coast. What, Scott singing is not what they mean by a blind Uturn?
Apparently you don't reveal that you were the team that put the U-Turn up at a Blind U-Turn...... You can then lie through your teeth! Apparently, Margie/Luke appear to be the ones to use it......
Although it seems like it would be easy enough to figure out who did it if the other teams put their heads together...for example, it was posted already when Tammy/Victor finished in fourth place, and as it is unlikely that any of the teams from the first flight would waste theirs, they could probably deduce that it was Margie/Luke.

with strong drink to watch the Crazy American's do stuff.
I absolutely LOVE the locals drinking and laughing at them at the challenges! I really hope they keep that up.
They stack wood diffirently in Russia compared to here in Canada.
Line of the week:"Just give me wood .... Not that big, girl!"
pepe, you have a dirty mind... and I like it! That made me laugh when I heard it.
Hey, it's what the show gave us!![]()
Just thought I'd mention how much I hate the "this is what is going to happen in the upcoming episode" thing.::grumble::
sooo, drunken locals laughing at failure?
I am liking this recurring motif.
It does seem to be the theme for the season.
Yeah, I'm enjoying the increased interaction with the locals sitting around and watching - you get a sense of their culture as they sit around laughing their arse off while getting drunk at the sight of Americans falling on their butts.
I'm wondering how much the TAR producers are paying the locals to do this, or they just being bribed with liquor and food?
Mark/Michael, Christie/Jodi, and the Soul Sistahs all make the connecting flight to the Siberian Airport. However, the dam's Hours of Operations slowed them down to 8:30Detour: Stack or Construct
Stack: Stack a load of lumber. However, if you knock down an already stacked pile, you gotta re-stack that pile as well..... (Mark/Michael just found that out when their stack crashed into the neighboring original pile......)
Construct: Make a set of shutters for a house that needs repairs. Once you get the shutters installed you get your next clue.
Christie/Jodi started their stack away from the original pile......
Mark/Michael, upon finding out about that, head to Construct to save time........ (how rude!)
And the walls come tumbling down.
Roadblock: Ride a bobsled down a hill in under 4:00, while collecting 7 letters that will spell out a famous Russian writer..... Chekhov (Nuclear Wessels!)Soul Sisahs and Christie/Jodi both have made it to the Roadblock, after refusing to use the U-turn....
Everyone from the second flight went Stack, and just about all of them have seen their stack fall, fortunately not toward the previous stack......
Mark/Michael got really, really lost looking for Construct.
Mel/Mike have just given up and are heading for Construct......
LAST EDITED ON 03-08-09 AT 07:48 PM (EST)Amanda/Kris got hit with the U-Turn.
Margie/Luke and Tammy/Victor managed to get out of the Detour relatively unscathed......... and are heading to the Roadblock.
Kisha/Jen (Soul Sistahs) were the first to complete the Roadblock and are heading to the Pit Stop!Christie/Jodi are also on their way!
Chekhov (Nuclear
>Wessels!)
>Nuclear WWwWWwessels... LOL
I was sorely disappointed none of them made a Star Trek reference. With the new movie coming out, it was a golden opportunity.
Perhaps some of them did make references to Star Trek or to Ensign Chekov (and his "nuclear wessels"), but none of the references made the show.
LAST EDITED ON 03-08-09 AT 07:38 PM (EST)Why don't they know Checkov?
Good question, I don't know who Checkov is either... but I do know who Chekhov is!
Yeah, sorry I can't spell but I do know the author.
The Flight Attendants are 1st and Kisha/Jen are 2nd.
LAST EDITED ON 03-08-09 AT 07:49 PM (EST)They're still at the shudder challenge, trying to find the house that needs repairs.
Luke is still trying to figure out Chekhov. Damn I'm really having trouble spelling, I shouldn't post on medicine.
and Amanda/Kris has just found out that they've been U-Turned, and they're ticked about it..... They just completed the Stack part, and they're in last place. They're rattling off who could've done that to them, but they still haven't hit on Marge/Luke.........
Luke finally got it! Cara/Jamie threw a dart and were luckier to come up with Chekhov on the first guess.
Amanda & Kris are out, which sucks because I thought they were cute. Mark/Michael didn't have enought money for their cab but they still made it in time to not be eliminated.
Think this is the first time an U-Turn has directly resulted in a team being eliminated, isn't it?Typically, it doesn't amount to a hill of beans in the eventual outcome of a leg but rather results in bitterness between teams as one team finds out who thought enough of them to want to slow them down.
Apparently someone figured out that Luke was responsible, because the preview shows that there will be a backlash........Also, apparently there is a Roadblock where one member must run wearing the "Bare Minimum"........ in frigid Siberia!
I can't recall if there has been an elimination from a U-turn. You are right that usually all it does is create bitterness between the teams.
Lake/Michelle yielded Dani/Danielle in Sicily or Greece during season 9, which let Ray/Yolanda pass them and resulted in the girls' elimination. Also, Jason/Lorena were uturned in Burkina Faso on the same leg that they were eliminated during season 12, but they were already hours behind everyone else.
I think the U-turn was poorly used by the show - why put it on an elimination round, where there is a chance that there would be no resulting drama, such as this? Use it when the teams are forced to see each other and they hiss and claw!
That really sucked. If only it had been a couple that had offended everyone. TAR loses many good teams to random events as it is so why use something that can only put the target on a good team?
I have never liked the U-Turn or the Yield. I just don't think it is fair. A team can be taken out of the game just because another team is scared of them. I want teams philimated because they did poorly. Not because others think they are threat because they are good racers. This just makes me dislike Mother and Son. I hope karma gets them for this. They didn't have to U-Turn anyone.
It may rebound on Margie and Luke, but I thought it was good strategy. The couple that got eliminated were a strong team and by using the U-turn on them, they knocked them out of the competition. It may not be either nice or fair, but it might have helped them stay in the game longer.

The couple that got eliminated were a strong team and by using the U-turn on them, they knocked them out of the competition.Still, from a production angle it would have been better to make this ep a non-elim and give them a chance to do the Speed Bump in the next round and try to stay in the game.
The Speed Bump was the best ever inovation in the game.
Eh, I think it's fair since Amanda/Kris knew it was coming and it was basically a punishment for being too slow at completing the detour. If they had been more effective at stacking the first time around, they could have finished quickly and avoided it... but when they ran off to switch tasks they put a huge target on their backs.I guess there could have been a more dramatic race to the finish if the u-turn hadn't been there, but I think the producers were definitely hoping for a spectacular meltdown from the team that got sent back to the wood piles. I'm sure there would have been fireworks had it happened to Charla/Mirna or Nate/Jen, but Amanda/Kris had sufficient composure that nothing truly dramatic transpired.
No, Shana & Jennifer used the U-Turn on Lorena & Jason in Season 12, albeit under the mistaken impression that the dating couple was right behind them (it was actually T.K. & Rachel). Lorena & Jason were Philiminated as a result. But yeah, usually the U-Turn doesn't amoount to much other than making a team ready to kill the perpetrators!
Belle Book
Bare buns(censored in the US of course)in the cold! Some kind of challenge where the teams have to strip down to their undies and run.
Wonder if the TAR production team had to get some pointers from the Survivor production team on placing all the blurs.![]()
I didn't know Amanda was doing the race!
Do we really need to see Luke in his undies?
I'm not sure I really see the point of making teams strip down to their undies in Siberia to run around for a bit. Ratings, yeah, but how is this a part of the race, really?
I'm not sure if that whole polar bear club thing is common in Siberia, but it could be something they do.Or just something so the locals can sit, play music, drink, and laugh.
I was having connection troubles, so I couldn't write this when it happened, but that was hilarious how Mark & Michael tried calling Lufthansa from the cab, and for some unknown reason they reached Cara and Jaime's cab driver (maybe the phone numbers were just one digit apart...). How could M&M not realize that their customer service rep sounded like she's riding in a car? At least they picked up on the fact that they were talking with an American. I suppose it could happen, but would there really be an American working customer service for Lufthansa in Europe, taking calls originating in Romania?
Yeah, it's too bad that they didn't have an evil bone in them, and booked them a ticket to South America or somewhere else...
Cara & Jamie might've done so, if Mark & Michael hadn't begun to wonder why the "Lufthansa representative" sounded like an American. Cara had to hang up before the brothers caught on!
