"TAR #12 Episode #11 (Finale) East Coast Spoiler Thread"

Posted by Estee on 01-20-08 at 11:12 AM
Please keep all discussion of tonight's season-ending Battle Of The Boring (featuring the three most character-free teams ever to reach the finish line as a group) on this thread until the West Coast says 'Hey, we got to fall asleep after the football game instead of during. Envy us!' Because honestly, what have we got here? TK, Rachel, and the Laid-Back Attitude Of 'It's a million dollars, right? That's like, a million times more pointless than winning one dollar.' We have Ronald, Christina, and Ronald's Run-On Sentences, which have developed sentience and are not only serving as an extra team member, they're carrying the backpacks. And finally, we have Nicolas, Donald, and The Lowest-Key Edit In Series History, which has presented their story in such a way that if they somehow win, we may notice sometime around March.

Three teams. One final leg through Alaska. Twelve million medical cases reporting Frostbite Of The Attention Span.

Well, at least they're not doing Fans Vs. Favorites.

Until next season. (Bluehair & Victim: Round Two!)

Will history be made tonight?

Will the Amazing race be delayed here in Canada due to football?

Yes, but on the bright side, we will have Jen and Nate standing at the finish line glowering about how unfair it is that TK and Rachel made it to the final three...

imagine the heavy gnashing of teeth and "Nate you loser!" we will hear from Jen if "Team-lay-back-and-roll-with-the-punches" wins!

On-time on cable 20 and 5 which are A-Open network, still delayed on cable 8 which is CBS.

Interestingly, CBS is not covering it on the West Coast. We are watching the game on the Fox station here.

You do realize just how funny that is given the way the season's gone here in the U.S., right?

Take that Canada! They waited for the finale to delay you.

Then again, given our final 3, maybe they decided to do you a favour.

It's on time here on CBS - the football game is on FUX. It's also on channel A-LON here.

Not sure why Earl Colby isn't seeing the game as usual, unless he's further up north and outside of the American network boundaries.

The TV in the room where my computer is uses an antenna while the other TVs in the house are on cable.

Both cable 20 and 5 on cable lets me watch the show but my computer is not in that room.

The TV in my room only gets TAR on channel 9 cable, which is football today. AAAAAARRRRRRHHHHH!

Just dropping in to say hi! This is the first time that I've liked all final three teams. Why is the last leg always Alaska? Is my memory playing tricks on me or have the teams been to that store before? Wasn't there a season where the teams had a leg that they didn't show, and included stopping at an outfitters store, and they all had tons of boxes that they took with them and it cost one team major time getting them at baggage claim? Was it season 2?

Edited to add: On time here!

It's only about the third time now that they've gone to Alaska from what I can recall. More often, they'll go through Hawaii and then to a continental US city.

Thanks Pepe! I knew someone would remember how many times they've been there. It just seemed like a lot more then 2. (I just remember the Guidos getting their clue in Alaska that Rob and Brennan had already won the race when they reached the roadblock.)

Nate expects hunting and fishing challenges? I sincerely doubt that. But, he can hope, I suppose.

Ron was really using his head asking for the lounge.

Posted by mysticwolf on 01-20-08 at 08:23 PM
No fishing, but it looks like they get to fillet fish.

Ron is certain he can fillet himself. TK & Rachel's driver says the all-important phrase. When asked if he knows where the place is he says "I think so".

Roadblock. Fillet (huge) cod and look for a clue buried inside one of them, or search through a tank of live crabs looking for one pained in the race colours.

Posted by Snidget on 01-20-08 at 08:26 PM
Nick and Don forgot to take the bag of supplies from the outfitters place.

Christina and Ron are done with the detour before either of the other teams show up. They got the right cod to start with.

Oops....no Bag for you....Go back and get them? Yep...Nick and Don are slipping back due to this mistake.

Christina and Ron finish super fast. Nick and Don are second to arrive at the fillet task. But they need a bag to put the fish in, that they of course forgot at the supply store. (Que to bag sitting on the counter of the store.) After the Roadblock they have to climb a glacier. Now we have commericals....

"RE: TAR #12 Episode #11 (Finale) East Coast Spoiler Thread"
Posted by mysticwolf on 01-20-08 at 08:27 PM
Typical. Christine finds the clue. Ron pats himself on the back for picking the right fish. Off to climb a glacier.

TK & Rachel's driver actually does find the place. Nick & Gramps get there in time to realize they never grabbed their gear at the outfitters. No fillet knife for them. Guess they'll be crabbing it with bare hands (ouch) or going back for the gloves and knife.

Rachel and TK start doing the crab detour...it looks very painful. Rachel does not look like she's having a good time at all...they've decided to stop and switch tasks, but TK found the crab right at that moment..

TK & Rachel start by crabbing. Two problems - 1) They pinch. Hard. 2) They're tossing them back in the same tank, meaning they could be picking up the same crab over and over again.

They switch to filleting and immediately find the clue just as Nick & Gramps get back. Defer to buckeyegirl's comment, above.

Looks like every cod has a clue inside. Nick & Gramps are only a few minutes behind TK & Rachel.

Tk and Rachel's driver is having a hard time to find the glacier. They finally get there, allowing Nick and Don to catch up...Ron and Christina are climbing the glacier when the other teams arrive. She's having a very hard time with it. Lots of good quotes from the teams...Ron beats Christina to the top. He's already there while she's at the bottom. Que other teams arriving in speed boats. Did someone mention how beautiful Alaska was in the cab rides? Didn't that use to be a bad omen for said teams?

Huh? In, I think, the very first task Ron whistles and sings his way across a river gorge on top of a bike. Now he says he's terrified of heights and is scared to death of climbing a glacier?

He makes it and keeps patting himself on the back while watching his daughter struggle - all the while telling her she needs to "come on".

What a great guy. A$$hole.

Climb the ice face to get to the next clue.
Ron climbs easily.
Christina can't get her feet going to get started.

Looks like TK and Rachel and Nick and Don will gain some time on them.

"Roadblock"
Posted by Snidget on 01-20-08 at 08:46 PM
1 item from each part of the race.
Various other requirements.
When you have all 10 items say done, if right the clue box pops open.

Christina and Rachel doing it for the first two teams there.

"RE: Roadblock"
Posted by cahaya on 01-20-08 at 08:52 PM
It's a tough, but fair, roadblock. Getting the right combination isn't easy and one forgotten item/event can have them going the wrong direction on rearranging things.

(Yup, I'm watching TAR instead of the NFC game - at least until TAR's over. It's tough to post here while channel surfing during commercials, too!)

"RE: Roadblock"
Posted by buckeyegirl on 01-20-08 at 08:54 PM
I agree...It's a tough but fair roadblock. I would do horrible at it. I would lose the race for my team.

"RE: Roadblock"
Posted by HobbsofMI on 01-20-08 at 09:01 PM
What a pain....but I agree fair....that's about the 3rd time they've done something like remember the whole race for the final thing before the race to the end.

"RE: TAR #12 Episode #11 (Finale) East Coast Spoiler Thread"
Posted by suzzee on 01-20-08 at 08:51 PM
They look completely fried trying to remember everything. Is this done in real time? Three months passing between the first and end episodes? I can't remember what I did last week let alone three months ago. s

"RE: TAR #12 Episode #11 (Finale) East Coast Spoiler Thread"
Posted by Snidget on 01-20-08 at 08:53 PM
They completed the race in something just over a month or so.

It isn't done in real time it is complete before they start airing any of the episodes. They don't do one leg a week, they only have 12, 24, or 36 hours between legs.

That is why these final roadblocks that are a memory test are so grueling.

"Whew!"
Posted by HistoryDetective on 01-20-08 at 08:56 PM
If it weren't for Ron's completely monotone summary of the final roadblock, I would be completely lost. I really wouldn't understand was going on if it weren't for him.

Anybody else notice that the clue boxes on this leg aren't marked with the flag like they usually are? Or, am I dreaming?

BTW: Ron? From what I've seen tonight you haven't learned much of anything in terms of being a better person.

TK & Rachel win. Woo Hoo!!!!

If any of them had to, I'm glad it was them.

I should have put them as my all in on in the Casino game.

I worried Ron and Christina had the better story arc.

Woo Hoo!!! Congrats TK and Rachel!

Especially since Jen and Nate hate that you won!!!!

Yeah, I would have also liked it if either of the other two teams won it, as unlikely as it seemed for them to go so far in the Race. Well done to all three teams, in the racing, in the teamwork, and with good character.

Guess it's the age difference. We both lived through the 60's (as you know ). They strike us as out of their time element, perhaps. But, they don't really strike us as coming across as dirty. At least not any moreso than any other competitor in the race. I'm guessing that baths and showers are few, and only allowed (time-wise) during the mandatory 24 hr. layovers. All-in-all I know my hygene might suffer. I'd rather spend my time sleeping as opposed to shaving.

"YAY!"

Happy for the winning team! It was hilarious to see TK freaking out in the cab on the way to the Finish Line after he'd been so calm for so long. Can't blame him one bit
