"Amazing Race Season 13"

I noticed last night during Kid Nation that there was a commercial for Amazing Race and at the end they were asking for people to submit applications for next season. I guess this means that there will be a next season, I wonder if that means that they are going to push up the timing because of the writers strike just like Big Brother. Unlike in the past they have not filmed the spring edition yet, normally they would be filming by now.

I don't know how much they could push up the timing. They usually shoot the whole thing, then edit it then broadcast it, so it might start a week or two sooner if the strike lasts long enough to effect May sweeps, but I can't see them starting it up quickly like Big Brother.

BB is as it happens so as soon as you can cram a dozen or so people in the house you can start. While they probably need a couple of weeks to figure out the theme and redecorate the house they don't need much other lead time beyond casting people.

Also, BB only needs about five seconds to work out their twists, six hours to set up the isolation booths, and no time whatsoever is used for briefing the host.

I think TAR might collect fresh applications if it had been renewed or not on a 'just in case' basis, but given the high ratings for the premiere and the sudden potential need for programming, it wouldn't surprise me if the next season's been thrown onto the fasttrack. Casting might actually be fairly quick: the killer for TAR in prep time is the planning, scouting, and verification of the course. If that's ready, they could be shooting in under two months. But if they're still figuring out the legs...
