"My 'Amounts' i wrote down"

LAST EDITED ON 09-18-02 AT 08:39 AM (EST)Since the title of the show was 'the amount' and it was stated that that was the hint about the clue, i wrote down all the 'amounts' that i heard or some that i saw. however, my vcr was being fruity so i couldnt' go back and look over the fax to see the amounts on there....
here are the amounts i have
$1,045 - this number was written in the hallway of the hotel.
$10 - the amount to tow his car out of the desert. it was about 30 miles into death valley.
$25 - for every night at the hotel
$2-20 - for a dance at slowmans depending on the dance and the conversation
11 1/2 minutes after the sun goes down = seven PM
various people said that a man could die in four hours in the heat.
also the already speculated population (10,623) and elevation (1023).
also i thought it was strange how everyone supposedly 'got it on around nine pm' like it was tradition or something. just like the man (BRB) from the truck said, "every other night at nine fifteen just like clockwork". then he goes walking down the street around nine and sees two other couples doing the same thing...
strange...
also, who the heck are those people who were watching them on cameras?? 'i don't like him he's bored go back to the Fed'
just some of my speculation, and amounts i found. hope it helps.

Oh, Asrai was telling me everything she wrote down during the show when we were on the phone last night. She had some different things than you, bubs. She got his license plate, the amount on the room door, other nonsense like that. Hmm.I must say, though, yours is a pretty thorough list.

>>She got his license plate<<Jim's license plate reads: X9C135
I also got what the rest of you have. Wasn't the number to Jim's room when he went in 10264A? Don't know if it's important. I didn't tape it and that was when my DH came home from work. He walked in bellowing something and getting a firm SHHHHHH! from all his girls!

Yes, the room number was 10624A. I don't know what the A means, but the number 10624 is 1 more than the population of Push, NV.
Come on in, the water's fine!

interesting point.... about the population. and it's somehow blatantly obvious that he's a newcomer into town by everyone he meets... then again, it's a small town..

From the official rules (I added the bold):B. THE FIRST WEEKLY CLUE
The first Weekly Clue ("First Weekly Clue"), i.e. the Weekly Clue in the first episode of the Program, may be used to illustrate aspects of Game play such as clue identification and solving (e.g., how a contestant may identify a Hint and how that Hint may lead the contestant to solve the Weekly Clue). At Producer's discretion, The First Weekly Clue (and Hints concerning the First Weekly Clue) may be widely disseminated and may be disclosed, repeated or highlighted by Producer. The First Weekly Clue will provide the public with the dollar amount of the Grand Prize (see Section 4).
And from Section 4:
4. GRAND PRIZE:
The Grand Prize Winner will receive (subject to compliance with the Official Rules and verification of eligibility) as the grand prize (the "Grand Prize"), a sum equal to the amount of money identified as "stolen" in the first episode of the Program (less any applicable withholdings and deductions required under the laws of the United States and any other tax authority). The Grand Prize will be in an amount not less than $1,000,000.
Therefore, I think the amount is $1,025,000 - the amount that Regis Philbin said the Millionaire contestant was playing for.

Can't actually. There was a website flashed at the start of the show. It was www.dmvf.com and it "gives" you the amount that was intended as the clue. It was $1,045,000.But, I too, thought that it would be $1,025,000. Seemed a little strange for Regis to announce that much. Way strange. Clue strange.

LAST EDITED ON 09-18-02 AT 07:54 PM (EST)Actually, there was a time when the Millionaire Jackpot was progressive. When they hadn't given away the million in too long, they decided to add $10,000 to the pot every episdoe it wasn't won (I believe it almost reached 2 million). So yes, at one point the grand prize was $1,045,000. But I still think that this is the amount, it seems too advertant for it to be a red herring.

edited to change amount to $1,045,000; which after listening again, is what is said.

I remember them doing that on WWTBM, but they didn't start doing it until after nobody got it for a while. So I don't think the prize on that show was ever actually $1,045,000 -- they jumped right to something like $1,400,000 and then started up from there.

regis actually say you are 15 questions away from the 1,045,000 question. but it sounds dubbed over (like when the voice gets deeper/higher when they edit bad words out of movies).

The real amount is $1,045,000. I have multiple sources on this:
1. During the opening of the show, the following website appeared: www.dmvf.com. When you go to that site, you get the following message:

2. Look at Webby's vidcaps #18 and #19...it says $1,045. Just add three zeroes to the end. Edited to add that Bubsy has this amount listed in the original message.
Edited to say that Femme and I were posting right around the same time. GMTA

Edited to say: there is a link on the site to a Yahoo message board (click on "dialectics").

I agree that the amount on the door said $1,045. Wasn't there another number that we saw on the wall as well? I'm thinking maybe it was 1062 or something...I dunno. I'll tape it when it reruns on Thursday. (I'll be watching ANOTHER show...gee...which one could it be...)But anyways, how does one know to add three zeroes to the end? (Besides the fact that it tells you on dmvf.com) Well, the elevation of Push is 1023. Elevation is how high something is raised, and we're trying to raise one number to another. And to get $1,045,000 from $1,045, one must multiply the latter times 1000, which is 10-cubed. Another way to say 10-cubed is ten to the third power, or, using the elevation, 10 2 the 3rd power.
So, nothing new here, I was just backing up evidence. Why? I don't know. I just like beating a dead horse.

We know that $1045 is the prize money because that also is the amount missing from the Versailles. Starting Cash $62,576,436.82
Cash Receipts 7,434,540.12
Cash Payouts (10,920,402.23)
Other Cash Expenses (1,254,240.02)
Ending Cash $56,794,334.64
Ending Cash should be $57,836,334.69
The difference is approximately 1,045,000 (I may have transcribed some numbers inaccurately.)

The ending cash on the ledger is $56,791,334.69 which is exactly $1,045,000 less than the amount the ledger actually adds up to - $57,836,334.69.You did transcribe a few numbers, Tri.
