"Big Brother 12 ECST Week 1: Who are these hamsters?"

(Yes, I'm posting both threads a day early this week.)

Welcome to the Big Brother 12 East Coast Spoiler Threads. We will again do weekly ECSTs so that we have somewhat of a blanket coverage for the TV-edited showings of the craziness inside the cage.

The threads normally go from Sunday to Thursday, or whenever the eviction ceremony is held... Which means this week's thread is for the premiere July 8 to the first "live" eviction on July 15...

Hopefully they won't drive us crazy, but that usually fades within the first 10 minutes or less...

Why do we always come here?
I guess we'll never know
It's like a kind of torture
To have to watch the show

I'm giving them an hour.

I'm not even giving Grodner three seconds.

I gave Grodner too much time.

"As if you didn't see this coming."
Posted by Estee on 07-08-10 at 08:19 PM
Why yes, I do already hate Monet!

Lots of disguising of professions here, with people going for subsets or tangents off what they already do. If people have learned anything, it's that you can be too smart and too rich. 'Too present' usually doesn't sink in until nominations start.

BTW, is it in everyone's contract that they have to mention their sexuality in the first ten minutes or forfeit?

And once again, a reminder: this is Matt's second reality show. This does not place him in the top two percent of all intellects. It does get him into the same category for all DAWs.

"Saboteur..."
Posted by vince3 on 07-08-10 at 08:24 PM
They have to make it to the halfway point to get $50k, or 5 weeks... A disguised confessional was given to the hamsters from the saboteur giving them fair warning to not trust each other....

"The stink of cheap cheese."
Posted by Estee on 07-08-10 at 08:27 PM
So the saboteur has to make it to the five-week mark in order to claim second-place money -- $50,000. Go out earlier and get nothing. Can't win the top prize. Can take HoH and play fairly in competitions, but who knows if they control their own nominations? And can't get through their introduction without destroying the whole concept, because the blackout and voice distortion just went full-scale limburger. Don't inhale.

And now, the deductive abilities of people who never would have made second callback for a Certain Other Show. Rachel is precious here. 'My dating life! My precious showmance dating life!' Kathy at least knows that anything she says can be misquoted and used against her. (And yet she showed up.) And Lane? Shuts up.

Smart of Lane, really.

"HoH Competition"
Posted by vince3 on 07-08-10 at 08:37 PM
Split into two teams of 6: Red and Yellow, and one is the mascot. Andrew volunteered to be the mascot, who has no chance to win the HoH and has a hot dog costume... but he's also safe from the first Eviction!

Each team must cross the BBQ pit using the hot dogs to hang on as your teammates uses pulleys to cross the pit, which is getting blasted by ketchup and mustard... The pits are hot charcoal colored foam pillows. Interstingly enough, though, it seems a number of them has their mike packs attached to their waists by gauze...

Prizes for the winning team: $10k, $1k, $100, $10, $1, and HoH!

Britney crashed badly to the pads, and injured her knee... basically stopping the competition.....

This is why BB isn't allowed to have nice things. It breaks them on the first day.

"RE: HoH Competition"
Posted by vince3 on 07-08-10 at 08:45 PM
Britney was ruled out of the game, and the yellow team was given the option who to replace her with... They choos Kristen, who immediately flies back across the pit!

Red team wins the HoH competition, Hayden is the HoH, Monet wins $10k!

"HoH challenge, part 1."
Posted by Estee on 07-08-10 at 08:40 PM
Two teams of six. (Andrew chooses to sit out, has to put on a hot dog costume, and gets immunity for the week.) Crank people over a giant foam grill on a slippery hot dog: first to cross on the winning team gets 10k, and then drop by a power of ten for each successive person. Last one over on the winners gets HoH.

Some strategy here. Wipe down the hot dogs with shirts. Try to get ahold of the top support. Fall off repeatedly. Consider whether you want the target from getting the money -- why, of course Monet does! Boost people into better grips. Shirts as lassos. And all of this adds up to three across on each team -- before Britney falls and injures her knee. (Andrew, who's lied about his profession, does nothing.) Commercials.

And yes, that was in fact the challenge budget for the whole season. Bring on the booths!

Fair credit to Kathy for putting the challenge on hold before the producers could and going to Britney's aid. (Taken out by a slippery wiener. Hopefully it's the only time that happens to her in the house.)

Wonder how that shuffle in the order affected the prize money? Britney gets nothing? Someone gets two prizes? The eternally-cheap show calls foul and confiscates all cash?

We're learning what Matt is. 'Injury time-out? Let's talk strategy!'

Overall, not a good first challenge -- and I'm putting most of the blame on the design.

"Sabotage"
Posted by vince3 on 07-08-10 at 08:55 PM
For episode 1, Big Brother turned off the lights for the Saboteur...

Brendon allegedly went to the bedroom to get his toothrush/toothpaste, and Andrew decided to "play pranks" and tossed a pillow bomb into the darkened living room.

Once the lights returned, the Saboteur appeared and informed the hamsters that if they weren't afraid of the dark, they might've caught hir's first Sabotage: The Pantry is now padlocked! Which means that until it somehow gets unlocked, the whole house is now on slop!

"RE: Sabotage"

Did they steal the last 5 minutes of the show? Why with a bazillion hours of footage does the show always end really early?

Is this what balances out AI going way over every week all spring?

"Who put the lock on?"
Posted by Estee on 07-08-10 at 08:57 PM
Possibly production. We could be looking at a red herring here -- but if not, it narrows down the pool too much for the footage we saw. (Of course, they were in the dark for a while -- people could have moved and come back outside our chosen footage.)

Who will Hayden nominate? Meh. Who did he already nominate? Who's got the veto? When is Anderson going to sue? And how much more of that idiotic saboteur footage are you going to put up with?

Isn't it nice when the season already svcks after one episode? It saves so much time!

Any ideas on the saboteur? I still think it's Matt: He went for immunity while giving HOH to Hayden. 1 week closer to the end.

If it's Andrew, he's going for the "hiding in plain sight" approach. The saboteur may have been told the mascot had immunity and he was the one roaming around in the dark. I'd say he's too obvious.

"RE: Big Brother 12 ECST Week 1: Who are these hamsters?"

In game terms, Andrew is either the saboteur or a dead man walking. You don't use nicknames with the Chenbot, and that 'JC' sealed his fate under six feet of fresh-poured concrete.

The saboteur is whoever would be the most boring at it.

"RE: Big Brother 12 ECST Week 1: Who are these hamsters?"
Posted by DrKegel on 07-09-10 at 01:16 AM

The saboteur is Brendon. (The guy wearing the green shirt when sitting on the couch when Julie was announcing the twist.) He has dark hair. My reason? Body language. Even in the challenge. Everybody was looking at the hot dogs and listening to Julie, he was looking down. And he sabotaged his team when he said he was trying to tie his t-shirt around the top of the hot dog. He wasn't even holding the t-shirt the second time around. Just got carried to the other side which meant they didn't have two guys to lift the girl up to the top. Brendon certainly couldn't know they'd have a skanky loser like Britney that has all the physicality of a newborn calf. What a pathetic girl! And irritating also!

Then he was up for some lame reason during the blackout.

Brendon.

Posted by LFJ on 07-09-10 at 02:27 PM
OK. Nominated for saboteur so far: Andrew
Brendon
Matt

HMMM. What about Britney? Did she throw the challenge and feign an injury? She would be the one least likely to be running around in the house in the dark with an injury. Yes. She made herself look useless in challenges, but with all of the Alfas in the house, maybe that is a good thing.

"RE: Big Brother 12 ECST Week 1: Who are these hamsters?"
Posted by michel on 07-09-10 at 05:30 PM
Brendon could be the saboteur but he's another obvious one for going after his toothbrush in the dark.

I'm trying to remember who wasn't on the couch the moment the lights went out. The sabotreur had to put the lock almost immediately after the outage when everyone was freaking out, not once they had settled and the night vision cameras showed us what was happening. Does anyone have it on tape and could tell us who wasn't seen in the last seconds before it went dark?

"RE: Big Brother 12 ECST Week 1: Who are these hamsters?"

I wouldn't put much weight on who was on the couch, "JC" said that BB was going to help get things going with the lights out and door lock so I'm thinking that the saboteur didn't have to do anything this time out. I'm going for Enzo right now. Why? The sockpuppet told me.

'All of our highly-educated brains will now attempt to figure out who the saboteur is. Please stand by while we completely overlook the chance of the lock having been there the whole time.' And as everyone else moves him to Position 1A on the suspect list, Brendon and Rachel fall in lust with each other's grey matter. For starters.

Hey, look: there's no muscle poses in Hayden's HoH room! We must still be over quota from last season!

Posted by Estee on 07-11-10 at 08:26 PM
As Brendon & Rachel get even closer to each other in an unlocked hot tub and Annie comes out of her personal close to Ragan, Enzo gets busy. He wants a mafia. He wants a brigade Meow-Meows. This means pulling together an alliance of himself, Matt (for brains), Lane (for muscle and bad short-term memory) and Hayden (because he can do this week's nominations). Matt thinks this is the strongest alliance in series history. Matt's IQ just dropped forty points.

Hayden wants to put Brendon and Rachel up. See a connection, kill a connection. Brendon's the primary target, but the goal is to stop any other solid alliance from forming. (Odds Hayden just wanted an extra woman at his feet and is striking from rejection: Pretty High.)

"RE: I see a showmance and I want to shoot it down."

Nope, Enzo's the meow-meow. That's his self chosen nickname.

He dreamed up Brigade. And Lane doesn't know what a Brigade is? Oh my.

"RE: Thank Dog I didn't make Popcorn"
Posted by zazzy on 07-11-10 at 09:38 PM
I thought the challenge was imaginative.

Peeps had to crawl through a syrupy slime that had the power to stop a 40 year old woman in her tracks (or so she wanted us to believe) and to strip the gym shorts off of the fit Brendan. Think La Brea Tar pits slimey.

They crawled under something in that syrup, so they had to go sorta low. And then they had to go up an incline to a huge section of popcorn...which stuck to their slimey bodies as they looked for a BB item,a tooth facsimile, and then once retrieved, they had to go back the way they came and then get themselves across the short expanse of yard to the mouth where they placed the "tooth". So a repeat trip in the slime.

Many were slowed but none as much as Kathy. In contrast, Lane practically sprinted his way through the slime to find the tooth.

The losers, Kathy, Rachael, Ragan, and Matt have to sleep in a most nasty HN room. Plastic lounge chairs (the kind you need to be drunk to sleep in for any length of time) in a room surrounded by jars of smelly maggots. Yep, maggots. Super gross room, brown decor, looks like an alley way by dumpsters. Just nasty. Oh, and take cold showers and eat slop.

"Guess who is back?"

They got the entire Fiendship in there! (Sadly, most of them are still alive...)

Horrible Have-Not room. The chairs will kill everyone's back and worsen the odds of their winning in the future, the smell will add something to the fun, and the bad diet... well, once you're here, you may wind up staying for a good long time. The poor get poorer.

"RE: Guess who is back?"

The saboteur (or production) puts tape Xs on the photo wall -- over the pictures of Britney and Kathy. Britney heads up to Hayden to make sure this hasn't turned her into a target. Hayden feels the saboteur wants those two up, but he's not placing Britney on the block. Britney will go along with what Hayden wants -- but, given her choice, would nominate Brendon and Kathy.

Hayden is looking for the no-payback HoH week. Good luck with that.

I must say that I like the quotes from Annie, saying that the flirting between Rachel and Brendon was as painful to witness as seeing her parents have sex!

Britney also made me laugh when talking about Kathy. Enzo is cracking me up by being so earnest.

No one is turning out to be obnoxious on the show but I heard it was much more dramatic on the live feeds. That means some are getting undeserved positive edits.

I know Kathy is a suspect for Saboteur but that exhibition in the syrup was too much not to be real. I mean that was giving them reason to nominate her just as the green tape was. If she is the saboteur, then she is much trickier than we are used to seeing. I believe she really ran out of gas.

Where was Kristen in this episode? Would BB completely hide the saboteur? I don't think so.

My money's still on Matt: Present but not obvious, he got himself in a strong alliance which can keep him safe but can also put him on the block just for being in an alliance.

Monet can't stand the thought of getting spoiled mayo on her. (Gosh, Monet, don't make faces. People get offended by that.)

Britney disbelieves in Rachel's intelligence. Obnoxiously. Fortunately, I left lots of room on my little list...

Rachel has the best pinata breaking technique, but can't follow through on letters.

Enzo just barely manages to assemble something with seven letters in it. Because, y'know, intelligence is for wimps.

Andrew? Throws this. Throws it over the wall and out into the lot. Possibly not the worst strategy.

Brendon takes the logical move of working out his work from the letters he gets instead of going in with a goal in mind, looks for something he can put prefixes and suffixes on, and takes the thing with a thirteen-letter strike.

And Hayden? Suddenly realized his HoH term has an expiration date! Just like mayo!

The main problem with Kathy-as-pawn, beyond 'pawns get captured', is -- well, actually, there isn't much of one. They'd probably get Rachel out on a pretty solid vote, and it would fulfill the goal of cutting down Brendon's alliance numbers. Putting up Annie just gives people a choice of targets.

On the other hand, Kathy could dislocate a hip getting onto the nomination seats.

And Britney feels she got off -- and I quote -- "Scotch-free". (Free Scotch is a major part of her life.) The hater side is coming out early -- but at least we didn't have to wait for it. So is the 'I'm not as smart as I think I am' bit, but that one was just about a mortal lock.

For Brendon to remove himself makes the most game-sense here -- save Rachel and he's just about guaranteed to go out. Use Veto on himself, and all he needs is for Hayden to put up someone the house might want to evict. Annie fits the bill.

I'm hoping for a third-party (non Meow2, non Science) HoH win tomorrow. Let's put pressure on the floaters.

Actually, yes. If he's human (which is a rare quality in hamsters), he's feeling guilty over being safe while two of his allies/friends are still in danger. Survivor's Guilt without actual death involved. He may have just wanted someone to tell him it was okay for his game-life to continue.

It's not all about Brandon, but he's allowed to have an emotion on the issue for two minutes.

I dunno, maybe I wasn't paying enough attention, but I caught a Brandon's relationships are only about how Brandon feels vibe from the interchange.

For some reason that didn't come off as caring human worried about his friends, but the world revolves around me and it is bad you two are in a situation that isn't about making me feel good.

But as I said I may not have been paying enough attention and missed the part where he is upset because of how other people might be feeling.

And I felt Annie's emotional play got to him... different reads. Maybe it'll look different in the rushes.

"Saboteur reveal"
Posted by vince3 on 07-15-10 at 08:20 PM
It's Annie!

During the padlock blackout, she crashed into somebody....

The green X's were a viewer idea, and so is the latest idea: place a couple of beeper/other sound devices throughout the night to interrupt people's thoughts and sleeping cycles...

Biggest problem is: She's now on the block!

Time for a message from the saboteur, claiming that Hayden missed her... but she is on the block... Bonus for her if this works: the survivor is probably not the saboteur...

Fingers are pointing at Brendon, since the wording was "escape the block"...

"It's the one-week twist!"
Posted by Estee on 07-15-10 at 08:21 PM
We knew the clues were going to be lies. We knew any hints dropped were meant to send the hamsters running around the wheel. But for the saboteur to be Annie -- on the block, going out tonight, and killing the theme of the season with Elimination #1...

*giggle fit*

This show? Can do nothing right.

Do you really want to experience the fall out that might happen if one of the BB twists actually worked?

I'm beginning to think the world depends on the BB failing at everything. I mean they have to be trying to fail in order to fail this hard, right?

"Saboteur recovery plan"

Weaken Brendon by eliminating Rachel, and continue to point the Saboteur finger at him...

Especially by revealing that he's got a Masters Degree and is more than just a mere swim coach...

Given that the video footage 'clues' are lies, you have to wonder how much Annie actually knows about the other hamsters. If there's a pre-existing connection between two other players, she could have been told about it -- or just made something up to see what kind of chaos it would stir up.

And regardless, the decision to throw the book across the room remains the best one. Why try to solve a mystery when the author is lying to you?

"Stupid Idea"
Posted by michel on 07-15-10 at 09:15 PM
So let me get this straight: There were no clues available for us to guess so we miss out on the fun of playing detective. The samboteur gets evicted the first week so we miss out on the fun of seeing the hamsters get paranoid and now they will be told that they got the saboteur so we won't get the fun of seeing who is smart enough to have it figured out... That was a bust all around.

Although I have to say that I am impressed with Ragan who seemed to know it was Annie, with Matt who is solid with the brigade while not being intimidating to the others without any help from BB and with Kristen who has been staying off the players' radar, not just the cameras.

Rachel will probably nominate 2 brigade members but she should try to fix things between Hayden and Brendon first. It's a long season to have mortal enemies so early.

"Hamster bloopers"
Posted by vince3 on 07-15-10 at 08:29 PM
Brendon gets to see him giving out major moons due to the caramel... but then gets grilled about his showmance with Rachel...

Andrew gets grilled about the message that surprised him the most from the Saboteur..... he says that it was the lifelong friends... and the saborteur...

Time for the hamsters to plead their cases: and Annie is articulately and calmly throwing both Rachel and Brendon under the buss, and running them over with it!

Talent and Swimsuit yet to come.

That was pitiful. At least Annie was fighting to stay.

And fighting hard. I would have thrown her a vote just to credit the effort. Throwing the cage into confusion would have been a bonus.

It's not pitiful if she knew she was staying. 10-0: That cannot be kept quiet.

"Da votes:"
Posted by vince3 on 07-15-10 at 08:31 PM
Monet VTE Annie
Andrew VTE Annie
Lane VTE Annie

Currently 3-0 to evict the Saboteur Annie...

"RE: Da votes:"
Posted by Estee on 07-15-10 at 08:34 PM
*keeps giggling*

And yes, I know how much the producers love to rig the vote order (when they're sure of them at all), but this is getting funnier by the minute. The other Meow2 members are just about guaranteed to vote Annie, Bitter Beyotch Britney and her maybe-mother will go that way, and Brendon's not going to go against his showmance... at best, this is 9-1 to kill the twist, and that's only if Kristen decides to throw a curve.

Hey, Grodner -- worried yet?

(Actually, I'm waiting for them to switch over to the backup saboteur. Or for production to do it all and lie about the presence in the house. But it's still funny.)

"RE: Da votes:"
Posted by vince3 on 07-15-10 at 08:38 PM
Considering how early this vote started, I imagine that if Annie is shown the door they might reveal that she was the Sabo on her way out or slightly afterwards...

Kathy VTE Annie (4-0)
Kristen VTE Annie (5-0, 1 more nail and she's toast)
Brendon VTE Annie (6-0 bye-bye Saboteur!)
Ragan VTE Annie
Enzo VTE Annie
Matt VTE Annie
Britney VTE Annie

Annie's out 10-0, and ironically enough, Brendon drives the stake through both the heart and the Saboteur twist!

Rachel in her farewell to Annie brings out the claws about her trying to drive a wedge between her and her man!

Annie says that the hamsters are stupid for not breaking up the showmance and they might end up going as far as Jeff/Jordon did last year....

Annie claims there is one more Sabotage that might be done from beyond the grave.....

"...wow."
Posted by Estee on 07-15-10 at 08:45 PM
I knew Britney was a Bitter Beyotch. For Rachel to turn into Vengeful Catty Clawer? I didn't see that coming -- and from the sound the audience made, neither did anyone else... (And credit to Ragan for being the only hamster to really point the finger in Annie's direciton.)

So Annie's not gone yet, huh? Gosh. Golly. Funness.

They will find out they nuked the Saboteur twist on Sunday's episode... probably after her beyond the grave hit...

"Notification forthcoming."
Posted by Estee on 07-15-10 at 08:59 PM
The hamsters will be told about Annie's role in time for the reveal to be aired on the Sunday episode -- and the camera moved out on what might have been a final trick in progress. This doesn't mean the show won't try to go to a backup -- but if they don't, consider the twist killed for the year.

They are such geniuses.

"Final Sabotage"
Posted by vince3 on 07-15-10 at 09:01 PM
I guess there was something Annie put under the nomination chair's pillowcases when someone wasn't looking, or production put it there while they werer outside for the HoH competition...

Whatever it was, it caused Rachel and Brendon to jump out of the nom chair seats....
