"Virtual Memory"

Posted by jbug on 02-27-09 at 09:30 PM
At work, I (& the book keeper) get these pop up thingies about being low on virtual memory at least once a week. When it happens, everything really boggs down
I have internet access; she does not.
But we are connected thru a network system as we both use the same Peachtree, and can both access shared documents, etc.

What does low on virtual memory mean?
And how can we fix it?

Thanks in advance to RTVW's experts.

Virtual memory is when it uses part of the hard disk like it was the type of memory that runs the programs.

http://www.pcmag.com/article2/0,2817,2089076,00.asp has a couple of things you might have to do.

I'm guessing either some setting needs to be changed, or you may need to clean up the hard drive so you have enough space.

When you don't have enough memory to run all the programs that will bog things down.

Snidge, I've done the clean up some, but only the admin has access and can do the defragment. And he doesn't believe in it - that it does any good, so he won't do it.

I delete cookies quite often too in case that might help.
I'll check out your link.
Thank
