Instead of looking for a pitch-hitter for Seana (haven't heard from her so she may show up and post something) let's use the next two weeks to catch up on some of the recipes that you've not gotten around to making yet.
I still need to fix Morracan Shrimp! It looks so good and even a recipe that I can incorporate into my diet with some tweaks. And I really want to get my camera fixed because OTCC threads are way more fun with pics!
rest of this years schedule:
July 29- rjrabbit - another newbie premiere!
Aug 12 - qwertypie
Aug 26 - Pepe
Sept 9 - Starshine
Sept 23 - Karchita
Oct 7 - Boo
Oct 21 - weltek
Nov 4 - Tummy
Nov 18 - Arnutz
Dec 2 - tribe - our third newbie premiere!
Dec 16 - tallgirl - second newbie premiere!
Dec 30
ps - who else says they're going to "fix dinner" instead of "make dinner"? *grin

My grandmother used to make a ketchup that had strawberries in it. It was the bombdiggity on meatloaf. I just use tomatoes and bacon. Now I want some of Meme's strawberry ketchup.

I think I'll make ketchup for my next OTCC assignment.I have several to catch up on, so this is perfect timing. There were also a few that I did make and never got around to reporting on, but it's probably too late for that.
I keep buying ingredients for an OTCC recipe and then accidentally using them up in something else. Oops. And you wonder why I'm always making substitutions.

I actually do plan to try to make ketchup at some point this summer. I've been having fun canning stuff and found a few recipes for ketchup that sound good, so figured I'd give them a whirl. I really have my fingers crossed for a great tomato season. I want to try canning whole tomatoes, too. Sadly, they probably won't be coming from my tomato plant. It's alive (it looks beautiful, in fact) and has lots of lovely yellow flowers, but it has yet to bring forth an actual tomato. (I'm a little bummed.)

In this area everyone is complaining about their tomatoes. Including me. I usually have tons of big green tomatoes by this time. This year I have a few little tomatoes and this is on 11 plants. And my squash is dying even with watering.
My cucumber and eggplants are producing produce though.

Glad to see you're not one of those snobs who look down their noses at people who put ketchup on hot dogs. Personally, I find mustard skeevy and only use ketchup.

Ketchup on burgers, mustard on hot dogs. And relish. And onions.

It was interesting... in Chicago, they're very particular about what to put on hotdogs - they say you're not a true Chicagoan if you ask for ketchup and a number of vendors don't even have ketchup as an option in their condiment tray.Pene and I stopped to grab a Chicago-style dog and we were given packets of mustard and relish along with the dog, so I asked for ketchup. Guess I got made as a tourist...

Just saw your "ps" up top about whether we "fix" dinner. That's how I often heard it in our house when I grew up. To say that you "cook dinner" almost sounds like a chore. While I lived in Malaysia, a former British colony with British English as the norm, we "prepare" dinner.

Tummy is so cute and in so many ways.Instead of "pitch-hitter" for Seana, I think you meant
pinch hitter:
–noun
1. Baseball . a substitute who bats for a teammate, often at a critical moment of the game.
2. any substitute for another, especially in an emergency.
With all the hotdog/brat/ketchup conversation, I thought it was worth mentioning.
P.S. Avoid urbandictionary.com on this one. Trust me.

I've never made sliders, but then I call them hamburgers. I've started using a scale to weigh the hamburger to make sure they are the same size. The fry sauce is an import from Utah. Ketchup and mayo mixed together, which reminds me a lot of the sauce they put on the Big Mac, except the BM sauce has relish in it. So it's kind of like thousand island dressing.

"RE: I want in!"
Posted by Tummy on 08-01-11 at 06:02 PM
But, but...sliders are about 1/6 as big as a hamburger.I figured fry sauce was some weird northern thing.
But PW puts cayenne in hers, which was what made it soooo good.

So how many ounces of meat is in a slider? I'm curious. Do they taste better because they are smaller?
"RE: I want in!"
Posted by Tummy on 08-02-11 at 08:49 AM
I don't know how many oz but google said about 2 oz. Mine fit on a Hawaiian roll. Did you really think I ate 5 regular size burgers?! Not that I couldn't, but that's just rude.
I think they taste better for many reasons.
a) they don't make Hawaiian hamburger buns
b) they don't make you look like you're a pig for eating more than one
c) each bite is a perfect bite of meat, bread and condiments
d) they're cute. I like to eat cute things.
