"Pre War prediction pool!!!!"

Alrigth, in the spirit of falltime office football pools, there's no reason we can't play at home with this new war.

So, I am proposing a SB war-pool, where we can all make a series of predictions and then come back when this thing ends and see who wins the pool...

Here are some ideas for pool questions:

1. Who will win the war, us or them?

2. Will Osama Bin laden be captured, killed, or never found?

3. Will the Taliban still be funcitioning when this thing is over?

4. Which countries will we attack?

5. What color ribbon will be used to show support?

6. War bonds, yes or no?

7. Will we colonize any countries in the aftermath?

8. How many civilians will we kill?

Tiebreaker question: Total # of US casualties vs enemy casualties?

the deadline for entering the pool is anytime before we launch the first missile, at whoever that might be.

Guess who?

Gotta go with the favorite in this one. Besides Vietnam, the US has a great record in wars, home and away, although the Civil War would have to be considered a wash.

>be captured, killed, or never

...I'm gonna go with a big fat "never found" on this one, although rumors of his death will circulate at least twice a month.

>

>be funcitioning when this thing
>is over?

....I think the US will be successful in fully dismantling the Taliban, and then in its place an equally oppressive and radical ruling party will emerge.

>
>4. Which countries will we
>attack?

...I'm gonna go with Afghanistan cause we have to, Iraq cause we want to, and Canada cause they deserve it the most.

...you can't go wrong with "mauve". Alternate selection is "tope"

>

>6. War bonds, yes or
>no?

...no, but those great WW2 posters will be brought back just for nostalgia purposes.

>
>7. Will we colonize any
>countries in the aftermath?

...unfortunately no, because our government is too much of a puss to go the full nine yards and just start taking over these sh!tholes once and for all.

...I think a low six digit number is a more than conservative response.

....631 US (422 of those from "friendly" fire) vs 9237 enemy (with several thousand more that we will never be able to confirm)

Hold on a minute! We completed and submitted our application for colonization over two months ago!

I think I prefer a nice teal.

Shakes, Shakes, Shakes, Shakes. I am shaking my head at you, but in a good way, not to be misconstrued.

I say the good guys will win this one. We always do.

GOD BLESS AMERICA

1) USA all the WAY
2) Captured, and sentanced to death by way of the old "BRAVEHEART" torture treatment.
3)Taliban will be dismantled, and the US will establish a Democracy in Afghanistan
4)Afghanistan, and possibly Iraq and any other country Bin Laden gets into.
5)a ribbon with the American flag on it
6) War bonds will be at a minimal
7) No colonies, but we will have some Control over Afghanistan for about 4 years aftrward.
8)10,000 civiians, mostly on accidental bombings.

* 5,500 American/Nato soldiers and 15,000 Afghan/others soldiers.

Based on Lisapooh's results in the Football Pool, let's all hope she's taking bin Laden and Hussein here....

hehe... well I'm always reminded by the phrases "it ain't over until it's over" and "he (she) who laughs last, laughs best" so am by no means counting pooh out! but LOL at the cheering for bin Laden and Saddam references...

DMC... I'm sure others wouldn't mind (just ask) but I think they'll be doing the pool based on winning percentage since it's not always possible for everyone to be there each and every week. Not too late IMO for you to join in this coming weekend.

As for my picks? I'll just be happy if whoever would just find bin Laden and then pin him against the wall and stone him, then get the Taliban out of power and the leaders thrown into jail, and that's the end of things.

Ok I'm mad at all y'all now! Holy Jihad on you and you and you!

Wait and see my friends - wait and see - I shall be vindicated!

Anyone who wants to join the pool now has to start out with my record! That is only fair!

>1. Who will win the war, us or them?

I'll admit to stealing this quote from Gregg Easterbrook:

"Matchup Note: Their side has people whose idea of manhood is to murder unarmed women and screaming children. Our side has people whose idea of manhood is to run into a burning skyscraper to save lives.

"Our side will win. The margin of victory will be large."

>2. Will Osama bin Laden be captured, killed, or never found?

bin Laden has lots of money and tremendous popularity among the common people. But he'll still be killed, since we'll use ground troops to find him.

>3. Will the Taliban still be funcitioning when this thing is over?

Not only will the Taliban be gone from Afghanistan, but Mullah Omar will be dead. We will not permit the Northern Alliance to take over the country and will keep US troops in place until democratic elections are held. A new government will be formed ... and its leader will be assassinated within six months of the day US troops leave.

>4. Which countries will we attack?

Dubya wants to make up for Daddy's blunder of leaving Saddam Hussein in Baghdad. Hussein thinks he is too smart to give Dubya an excuse to include Iraq. However, ultimately Hussein will screw up. Therefore, Afghanistan and Iraq both will be attacked and conquered (to the extent conquest is possible).

More interestingly, we will force India and Pakistan to negotiate a peace treaty resolving (temporarily) the 50-year-long Kashmir mess. However, the treaty will probably be as leaky as the one in Northern Ireland.

>5. What color ribbon will be used to show support?

No ribbons will be used. Showing the flag will indicate support.

>6. War bonds, yes or no?

The only "war bonds" will be the ones used to hold bin Laden's associates as captives prior to execution.

>7. Will we colonize any countries in the aftermath?

No. This is not an era of colonialism.

>8. How many civilians will we kill?

Not counting shakes (who will meet his maker at a "Love Cruise" rally mistaken for an antiwar protest by stressed-out Chicago police), less than 20,000. But that's still a lot.

>Tiebreaker question: Total # of US casualties vs enemy casualties?

US casualties -- 750. Enemy casualties -- 40,000.

>the deadline for entering the pool is anytime before we launch
>the first missile, at whoever that might be.

Glad you specified that a missile launch was required, because the first bomb is going to be dropped tonight ... on FOX. Happy cruising!
