"Morse Code"

Is there anyone here who knows and understands how Morse Code works? I'd be very interested in the dots vs. dashes. Seriously, what did they hear with their headsets? What does a dot or even 3 dots sound like? blip blip blip? Then pause...what does a pause sound like? Ok, I think you get the picture, but I'm not sure anyone could have done well on that challenge. What a shame. I'm not a fan of theirs, but they should be given another shot in my opinion.

Hi Kyree.
Try some web searches for Morse code.
Not sure if you'll find any that you can actually hear, but I'd be surprised if you don't.

Well, see there
the Link Queen beat me to it!

This may be a bit oversimplified, but lets' look at the word hello. Here are the morse code translations for h, e, l, and o

H = * * * *
E = *
L = * - * *
O = - - -

So, in morse code, you'd hear "beep beep beep beep (pause) beep (pause) beep beeeeeeeeep beep beep (pause) beep beeeeeeep beep beep (pause) beeeeeeep beeeeeep beeeeeep beeeep"

In other words, a dot is a short tone, and a dash is a long tone.

Thanks for the link! I had actually pulled up another site and listened to it as well and what I found was this. While initially, during a "learning phase" on the site, the beeps were slow and understandable, when the code sped up, I was totally lost. I can see why they had such a tough time. Again, I wasn't rooting for them, but it still didn't seem quite fair.

I think had Jeff and Jordan chosen this task, Jeff may have finally smacked her, mostly out of frustration. I'm amazed they've slid by this far.

Could you share that link? I'm interested in something that will actually teach it.

And of course we don't know for sure, but I imagine it was slowed down at least somewhat, since they weren't experts.

Well, I couldn't find the exact site I visited, but if you want to hear the code, visit this link:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Morse_code#Learning_Morse_Code

.....and then scroll down to "A sample Morse Code transmission". You can hear the ABCs and get an idea of how it works.
