Comment:
Well maybe it does('take a smart one') as I screwed up the Episode # in the other attempt at the E7 title thread. <sigh> i think my fate will be a slow death by irony. Just brutal I tellya.
Anyway Use this thread and not the other for the E7 teasers etc.
This title sounds to me like it's spoken by Ralph. I wonder what it relates to.

Agree, sounds like Ralph. Dave is a "smart one." Ralph seemed to think Dave was making sense at TC yet still voted Stifinie.

E7 Press release from CBS...------------------
INFORMATION GATHERED BY WITNESSES ON REDEMPTION ISLAND LEAVES THE CASTAWAYS SECOND-GUESSING TRIBE LOYALTY,
ON "SURVIVOR: REDEMPTION ISLAND," WEDNESDAY, MARCH 30
"It Don’t Take A Smart One" — One castaway’s resentment toward his tribe grows stronger when he is denied a simple pleasure, and, hungry for victory, the tribes face off in a grueling challenge that is a fight to the finish, on SURVIVOR: REDEMPTION ISLAND, Wednesday, March 30 (8:00-9:00 PM ET/PT) on the CBS Television Network.

It could all be David.Fallout from TC. David tried his best to fight for Stephanie, and it didn't work. He's the only Zep that stayed from the 6 and voted Sarita. I can totally see him "mocking" Ralph with this statement.
Also who has resentment toward his tribe? Philip and David both do. Either could be mad at their tribe for denying them a simple pleasure. What's the simple pleasure?
Hungry for victory is definitely the Zaps.

INFORMATION GATHERED BY WITNESSES ON REDEMPTION ISLAND LEAVES THE CASTAWAYS SECOND-GUESSING TRIBE LOYALTY,
What information could be gathered regarding the new Zap at RI...Steph could tell the folks there to steer clear of the current Zaps, and maybe the Ometepe's don't know if it's BS or not? I don't know why they would second guess tribe loyalty, perhaps the Zap spectators get into an argument regarding what Steph is blabbing, and the Ome's that are there are questioning who is right or wrong....? Does this sound like a clue that could involve a "returnee"? Notice, it is the RI clue that is receiving top billing this week? Possible returnee?
"It Don’t Take A Smart One" Definitely it sounds like something that Ralph would say...
— One castaway’s resentment toward his tribe grows stronger when he is denied a simple pleasure
Phillip? David?
... and, hungry for victory, the tribes face off in a grueling challenge that is a fight to the finish...
Wow, this clue is very ominous, especially when coupled with the transcript of the preview vidcaps....what Natalie is saying to Rob, "Don't you want to win?", and what Rob says, "Rob: If we lose, the target's on me."
hmmmmm? It says that it's a tribal challenge, that's grueling? Could one member do the challenge and carry the weight of all the others on their backs? Fight to the finish...some kind of physical fight like this....

As, shown to us by the dreamteamers and posted with sample challenge pics....

No, parathor, those were posted in around ep 2, dream-teamers for sure. Since they posted dreamteamers doing this, I suspect it will appear at some point in this season. But, we haven't seen anything like this challenge yet, and we have seen this challenge several time through the years. It's usually done over water, and they have to knock their opponent totally off of the arena/platform.

For all we know, since those shots have been used in the hype machine for Redemption Island, this could also be a Dream Teamer's preview of this being played out as a Redemption Island duel, best out of ???
We've seen this type of challenge both early and late pre-merge...

I take the first part of the clue to mean that Stephanie says something at the duel about her *terrible* tribe that causes some concern back at Zap camp. Also, I think the Zaps think that if Matt comes back in he is joining them (because, after all, he was booted from Ometepe). Maybe what happens at the duel arena shows them that is not the case. The castaway who resents his tribe is Phillip -- I guess the girls will not give him a back rub or a massage or something.

I'm not sure whether Zap6 thought Matt was coming back to their tribe, but I'm sure Zap6 thought they could get Matt to their side if he comes back and there is merge, since the Omes voted him out.
**Edt. to add that when Matt said to Rob and Grant that he would like to be back with them again, Krista and Stephanie was at the arena from Zaps, so given Zap6 does not know this information they are thinking they will get Matt for sure and hopes he keeps on winning.

Woogie -- that's is what I meant -- that the Zap6 think Matt will team up with them if he's the one to come back from RI -- I didn't mean the actual "tribe beach." I should have been clearer.

Predictions:"Information gathered by witnesses on redemption island leaves the castaways second-guessing tribe loyalty" - Stephanie spills the beans. She's got nothing left, hates her tribe. The second-guessing might be the Zaps who witness her Russellness and realize that they made a mistake.
"It Don’t Take A Smart One" - Ralph telling the camera that someone's on the outside of their club (David).
"One castaway’s resentment toward his tribe grows stronger when he is denied a simple pleasure." - Phillip. Between him and David, who would more want a simple pleasure? Has to be Phillip... probably something like a banana, or sitting in one of the chairs, or peace and quiet time.
"Hungry for victory, the tribes face off in a grueling challenge that is a fight to the finish" - hungry? gruel? "finish" your yucky food challenge? Boston Rob's worst challenges are these...

But the Zaps voted Stephanie out. Wouldn't they be realizing they did the right thing?
I think that clue refers to Matt. Matt pointedly said at the duel Rob attended that he wants to come back and rejoin Ometepe. But we've already seen Matt's loyalty get questioned by Rob. Now last night his acceptance of Krista's bible made Andrea start to think Matt's a dangerous player.
It's likely that Natalie told Rob about the bible incident, which would make Rob even more suspicious. I think something else will occur at the duel this week that makes the Ometepes think Matt is acting too friendly toward the Zaps.

The big mistake the Zap6 makes aren't the things they do, it is what they don't do. They were only unified on anti-Russell grounds (which made sense since Russell's plan was to take them only as far as he needed and then start picking them off to get himself and his girls to final). Without Russ, Krista and Stephanie they have nothing left that unifies them, they aren't a team.
"RE: E7 Press Release"
Posted by Brownroach on 03-25-11 at 00:18 AM
Sorry -- I'm not quite understanding your point. How would learning that Stephanie actually hates them make the Zap 6 question anyone's loyalty other than Stephanie's, which they already had sufficient reason to wonder about?
Maybe they don't have much unifying them other than that they eliminated the three people who were clearly outside their alliance, but that doesn't seem so out of the ordinary to me for Survivor.
"RE: E7 Press Release"
Posted by dabo on 03-25-11 at 01:03 AM
I don't think voting off Stephanie was a mistake, she was too muleheaded to be trusted. But they would be screwed no matter who got voted out because of what they haven't done, form a solid alliance. When the heat is on they point fingers and play the schoolyard game of trying to brand one another, they don't like one another, they aren't getting along. As things currently stand it seems Sarita and Dave are getting ready to butt heads. Sarita's only advantage is no one else wants to make decisions. They still have a chance if they can pull their act together. If they can't it really doesn't matter what else they do.

I agree with what you are saying about the Zaps. I just wasn't following parathor's idea that them seeing Stephanie trash her own tribe (if that's what she does) would make them realize anything was wrong.

The shot of Rob at RI with his name superimposed could easily be from the last time he went. And in the beach shot, if they are returning from RI why would they both have taken their shirts off? The two of them might go, if they switch up the rotation a little, but I'm not sold on it from those two caps.

ETA another thought however: Ashley might happily give up her spot in the RI rotation to avoid spending any alone-time with Phillip, who'll almost certainly want to go back.
It may work out that Rob is the only person who's willing to go with Phillip! That would be funny. (Andrea would probably go with him too, but she's just been there.)

LAST EDITED ON 03-25-11 AT 02:58 AM (EST)Maybe it is something Stephanie says about David that makes the Zap's question tribe loyalty. They already know David lobbied for Stephanie to stay, which was a big mistake, as BR pointed out, because now is the time to get rid of the physically stronger players with merge & ICs coming up; plus, the Zap6 had to know Stephanie was going to jump ship on them. Furthermore, there is something to be said for "being in the loop" of who is getting voted out & voting with the rest of the tribe despite your personal preferences. The fact that David didn't know whether it was Stephanie or Sarita getting voted out shows he isn't tight in the Zap6 alliance, so there is already a seed of a question about his "loyalty" -- what happens at RI might cause that seed to grow.
The only other thing that it could be, imo, is that the Zap6 are "counting on" Matt joining them when he comes back into the game. Only Stephanie & Krista were there when Matt told Rob he wanted the chance to join back up with Ometepe (and we know they didn't tell that to the other Zaps) and I think their ignorance about Matt's intention to go back to Rob is why the Zaps have been so happy with Matt's wins at RI. Maybe something he says at RI causes them to question whether he still has "tribe loyalty" to Ometepe despite them voting him out.
"RE: E7 Press Release"
Posted by Brownroach on 03-25-11 at 12:49 PM
Maybe if we figure out who will be attending the duel it would help. If they stick to their rotations it should be David and Steve for the Zaps, and Ashley and Phillip for the Ometepes. I suppose David's presence there could put him even more on the spot than he already is, if Stephanie emphasizes that David was odds with the rest of his alliance about the vote.

Yes, parathor, I love it....HUNGRY for victory, the tribes face off in a grueling challenge that is a fight to the finish....Definitely, you are right. Natalie: "Do you want to win?" (eat that food!)
Rob: "If we lose, the target's on me." (in confessional taped after the challenge, but aired interspersed during the challenge... which is probably a good sign that he beats his opponent)

Going to take another crack at this...INFORMATION GATHERED BY WITNESSES ON REDEMPTION ISLAND LEAVES THE CASTAWAYS SECOND-GUESSING TRIBE LOYALTY,
This is going to be shocking for the Zaps that witness Steph at RI, when she spills all of the Zap secrets, right in front of Rob/Phillip and Matt. The Zap witnesses are going to be floored at her lack of loyalty to their tribe.
"It Don’t Take A Smart One"
Definitely, Rooster. He's uttering this statement when referring to who his boot choice is....David?, or in regard to the challenge, in that it needed strength and physicality and not smarts.
hungry for victory, the tribes face off in a grueling challenge that is a fight to the finish
This refers that both tribes are hungry for victory as they face off, more likely they are hungry to win it because food is involved in the reward? With the set up of the Rob vs. Phillip and the David vs. Sarita in the promos, it could be a double boot and winner of the challenge gets to eat at the other tribes TC as they vote one off type of scenario....
Also, wanted to put some promo transcripts in this thread as clues...
Probst : One of the most difficult aspects of the game of Survivor is mental fatigue.
Stephanie: I'm losing my mind.David vs. Sarita:
Julie: David is bugging me.
Sarita : He's a loose cannon.
Rob : Crazy. Crazy. Crazy.
Phillip: Rob! Rob! Rob! Rob! Rob! Rob.
This is to set up Rob vs. Phillip
Natalie : ???? (Possibly says "You're nothing!")
{Actually Nat is saying, "do you want to win?"}, but CBS wants us to think that Nat said, "You're nothing", which would shed light on the fact if Phillip isn't there, then he would/could become a boot target...
Rob: If we lose, the target's on me.
Is this what Rob says as he thinks about booting Phillip....when Phillip is gone, and they lose, will the target then be on him, with no one crazy to shield him?
Jeff Probst : Wowwww.
Then the promo:
Announcer: It's Rob versus Phillip.
Rob : He's dangerous, cause of his stupidity.
Phillip : I just don't trust Rob anymore.
CBS is telling us at Ometepe it's Rob or Phillip...and then they tell us at Zap it's either David or Sarita...
Announcer: It's David and Sarita versus their entire tribe.
Steve : David's getting tough to stomach.
Mike : Sarita is absolutely the weakest at this point.
More Rob vs. Phillip...
Rob : The target's on me.
Announcer: ...get ready...
Phillip : The first opportunity I have to eliminate him, I will.
Announcer: ...for the most extreme...
Jeff Probst: Go!
Announcer: ...Survivor smackdown, ever. A can't miss Survivor!

They will question each others loyalty to the tribe...Steph will really leave them reeling, and Rob will most likely come back and tell the others, CRAZY, CRAZY, CRAZY...
I definitely think that it's Rob and Phillip that go to RI as the spectators for RI. Pics of them both sitting at RI arena, where their names are stamped over them, and on their return to camp. They take their shirts off because it's hot and sunny and they are sweaty, and it's a long ways to walk, perhaps?

I originally thought it referred to Ometepe having doubts about Matt's stated intention to rejoin them.
But on further reflection I don't think the tribes overall would be much focused on the "loyalty" of the players on RI. They were, after all, voted out -- and also could leave the game at the very next duel.
So the loyalty issues most likely concern a person or persons still in the game proper -- which best fits with the Zap 6.
"RE: E7 Press Release"

agreed. Now we have to figure out whether Steph would be more likely to spill those beans if she lost at RI or if she won. Tough to infer which one it might be...

It could just be she sees Rob and it all comes gushing out. The girl can't help it.
And she thumbs her nose at Zaps. Possibly she gets it out pre-challenge just to show them how dead they are, doesn't matter if she wins or loses Zap is gong down. A true Russellette.

INFORMATION GATHERED BY WITNESSES ON REDEMPTION ISLAND LEAVES THE CASTAWAYS SECOND-GUESSING TRIBE LOYALTY ..."It Don’t Take A Smart One" — One castaway’s resentment toward his tribe grows stronger when he is denied a simple pleasure
We may have two full clues this week. It's even possible that the title clue is related to the rest of the sentence it inhabits. My how refreshing that would be.
I already discussed the simple pleasure clue, which could refer to either David or Philip, but I didn't point out how it's tied to the title, My spec is that David is Mr. Simple Pleasure Deprived Smarty-pants -- and he gets voted off for the various crimes of being an Attorney, a Misfit, a Satanie protector, a Non-jock, a Sarita hater, and a general Gloomy Gus who makes sulky pouty faces and brings down the Synnergy.
The other clue then SHOULD be about Ometepe.
Although I considered that Stephanie could mouth off, and likely will, I doubt she would make things tougher for David. She might try to wedge a splinter between the Zap 5.
However, I think this is more likely about Matt.
INFORMATION GATHERED BY WITNESSES ON REDEMPTION ISLAND LEAVES THE CASTAWAYS SECOND-GUESSING TRIBE LOYALTY
It doesn't say that all the information is gathered this trip. It could be that after Matt defeats yet another opponent, that Ometepe as a group discusses the likelihood of his return. This allows Andrea to mention that he bonded awfully easily with Krista, and it allows Rob to discuss Matt's declaration that he wants to be in the alliance. Plus whatever else Matt says this time.
So I envision the Ometepe trying to figure out if Matt is going to be loyal or super dangerous, as they start to believe he will be redeemed (wins 5 consecutive duels).
The fact this is not a boot story leads me to think that Zapatera goes to TC.

LAST EDITED ON 03-28-11 AT 11:09 AM (EST)INFORMATION GATHERED BY WITNESSES ON REDEMPTION ISLAND LEAVES THE CASTAWAYS SECOND-GUESSING TRIBE LOYALTY ...
I have been thinking about this clue and the possibility that it is meant as a clue for the Ometepe's that may question Matt's loyalty, but I just don't see it that way. For me, it's clearly a Zapatera clue. If the Zap's start their rotation over again, as to who goes to RI to witness the duel, than it is most likely to be David and Steve. They were the first two to go and witness Francesca and Matt.
I think they are the most likely to go. Then, Stephanie is going to shoot off at the mouth regarding the tribe dynamics at Zap. David could support her there, by not disagreeing and maybe even commenting on a few things. This will be his demise. Steve will be there, and question HIS loyalty, especially when he goes back to the Zaps left at camp. I think this clue is in regard to David's responses or lack of responses, when Stephanie blabs tribe secrets...she will not go after David, who tried to help her, imo. The tribe is going to question David and his loyalty to the Zap tribe.

I agree. David is in trouble this week. Zap voted off the disloyal last time and I think they'll do it again this time. They need to go into the merge as solid as they can.

That's my take too. I suspect it will come out that David urged Stephanie to go around to all the other Zaps to talk them into booting Sarita.
I originally thought the clue might be about Matt as well, but I really can't see Rob (the only one whose opinion counts at Ometepe) caring if Matt is loyal or not. Rob sees Matt as a threat and plans to get rid of him again immediately should he come back, imo.

LAST EDITED ON 03-25-11 AT 08:31 PM (EST)This is what I posted at MESS (sorry to repeat for those who read both):
If this clue was worded carefully -- always questionable with CBS -- the key is the resentment is pre-existing as in already developed in a prior episode.
One castaway’s resentment toward his tribe grows stronger when he is denied a simple pleasure.
If this were new, we'd get something like "one castaway feels resentment when he is denied a simple pleasure." Instead we have "grows stronger."
I think this eliminates Ralph, who has not been shown harboring resentment. The two candidates who already have issues with the tribe would seem to be David and Philip.
Of the two, David would seem to be less a candidate for concern with simple pleasures. However, we see in the promo that David is bugging people, so it could be that they shut him down on something he wanted, and he is sulking.
With Philip it could be almost any wild hair he gets ... but the RI duel witness function is strategy, not simple pleasure. Lying in one of the chairs is more like it ... or they finally tell him to put his shorts on in camp and he's no longer Born Free as he roams ... who knows.
The thing is, this conflict could well be the boot story, and the "he" who is denied might be voted off, because when it's one against the majority of the tribe, it's the tribe that has the final say. So my spec would be that our VO this week is most likely a man, David or Philip.
This helps me in that Sarita is a very prominent candidate to go.
In the Rob v. Philip match-up, Rob is not going anywhere, as we seem to agree.
ETA that the title, doubtless a Ralph quote, is likely said with David in mind. Not necessarily, as Ralph is prone to pointing out that he is not book smart and still capable. However, as David's key argument for his usefulness in challenges is that he can do puzzles, this might indicate some friction between David the Smart One and Ralph the self-titled Dumbass.

Especially if there is fear that once the merge occurs, he'll take down any mental challenge and will be safe from getting the boot, especially when they want him gone (if they somehow get rid of the Ome's...)
