Please keep all sigpic-free discussion of the final offense that absolutely forces China to declare war on us on this thread, at least until 11 p.m. EDT. After all, the only thing China has ever sent us was cheap exports, economic undercutting, some interesting dishes, toxic toys, and a creative way to use tanks. We're sending them two tribeloads of DAWs. What do you think their only sane response is? But don't worry. Given the distance their missles have to cover, we've definitely got enough time to complain about the episode first.

Sixteen people. Thirty-nine days. One winner. No survivors.

We're outnumbered by roughly four to one, y'know.

And we still don't care!

Not trying to step on IceCat's territory by starting this thread, but I don't even know if he's awake at this hour -- not in his current home. We're going to need a regular launcher for the ECST, though, and I'm not sure I'm it.

Woot! Ready for another year of snarky Survivor watching!

I won't be much of a segment capper or be able to start ECSTs as things are always touch and go with kids' bedtimes around this time every night.

On yer mark... get set... SNARK!

Gah. How can you be so blatantly disrespectful of the culture of another country?

Hey, we already got a quitter...granted, she quit the Buddhist ceremony, but whatever.

And they get to give up all their stuff and go in with the clothes on their back...with Ashley in quasi wrestling/escort attire and some guys in suits and some not so worthwhile clothing.

So they are all climbing the stairs to the temple and my 11yr old say; "Why are they dressed like that? Don't they know that they might have to start the game with the clothes they're wearing?"

Smart kid.

Stupid, stupid players!

Jean Robert looks a lot bigger on Survivor than he did playing poker, but he was sitting down then.

He's big, but he's not in good shape. Reserves to draw on, sure, but how good is his endurance when he's not sitting down for sixteen hours?

Unbelievable how disrespectful a couple of them are. To reject a welcoming ceremony? Or, to be so uninterested in another culture as to be bored by their ceremonies? Come on... Can we be any more shallow?

Especially when Jeff made it clear it was not religious.

Yikes.

I may be wrong, but I think Jesus would be grateful for being received with whatever hospitality anyone offered even if it looked a little different than what he was used to.

And, Leslie is on the team with the gay Mormon flight attendant. This should be "fun". Not. I've a feeling we haven't seen the levels at which she'll be willing to sink to show what a good Christian she is.

Jean Robert needs to wear a shirt, the pot belly...uh...not working.

Making alliances early though, got our first real one. Todd's pairing up with one of the two quasi celebrities early, seems like a good move. Remember, Bobby Jon and Steph made it far in their second appearance, partially on their Survivor celebrity. I'd be attaching to JR or Ashley soon.

Not long after that, there was a monkey shown on a tree, it had this long face (just like Todd's) and its hand made a 'gay' gesture. A subtle hint that Todd is the winner along with the million dollar quote above?

Posted by Estee on 09-20-07 at 07:56 PM
Leslie, if your faith is so fragile that it can be damaged through proximity, you really don't want to be around when the alliances start to go off.

Courtney has the potential to be among the Top Five Most Annoying Contestants Ever. In genre history. Not this show. The whole genre. Way to disrespect an entire culture. You are so dead.

James is -- big. Very big.

They said our poker player never saw the show before coming on it, and I'm starting to really see it. He's playing his hand way too early.

No million-dollar quotes yet. I said, no million-dollar quotes yet -- thank you for playing, Todd.

I would have appreciated the ceremony more if I'd found out more about what it was.

Yes, that was the right choice of outfits to nail them with a 'the clothes on your back' announcement.

Not seeing a visible improvement so far...

You'd think by now people would have learned to dress appropriately on Day 1. My photo op would have had me in cargos, decent running shoes, waterproof jacket, long sleeve shirt all over top of a sturdy (yet flattering) tankini.

Tell Ashley she's not on the block -- turn to the confessional camera -- and she's on the block! Nice skills. Let's see if you can make them last thirteen episodes.

Ashley may be receiving the fastest freefall edit I've ever seen for a first episode.

Ashley goes from being pumped up excited to curling up on a rock, almost puking, in record time. Her 'oobies remain pumped up.

Dave comforts her, tells her don't think just 'cuz you're sick, you're out. Then , in confession, says she's out if she doesn't get better. Hey, Dave now qualifies for Big Brother!

Just got a glimpse of Aaron...hope he goes further.

Challenge about to start.

"Tree Mail"
Posted by Flowerpower on 09-20-07 at 08:12 PM
Todd reads the tree mail and is pushing the leader role to Aaron...Aaron says that he's doesn't want to be the leader but he basically can't help it so he's going for it....

Meanwhile, Ashley is still sick but says she'll be ok....Frosti says that he needs to do what ever it takes, he'll use his skills however he can to cross that finish line and win...Jiffy says, come on in...they meet, how was the first day, Chicken says as well as expected, but we are OK....Aaron says..worst thing is being fully drenched and not able to sleep..

Now for challenge, race around a course, one leader will scale wall and unlock a gate and release wall to puzzle, then solve and place pole in the spot and raise the flag...playing for immunity and gets a flint for fire, dramatically changes camp....

"RE: Tree Mail"
Posted by mysticwolf on 09-20-07 at 08:22 PM
Modification for our Westies. Race around course carrying giant dragon (red) or tiger (yellow) ceremonial puppets. Heavy and unwieldy.

All poles must be placed in specific holes (star shape, round, cross... you get the idea) placed amongst a number of possible pole placement blocks.

Red wins, mostly because what's-his-name may be great scaling walls, he's not so great remembering to lower drawbridges or carrying the tiger. Not to mention, he can't figure out where he's supposed to put his pole. (not code)

That weird F/X shot of the Immunity idol, or Frosti doing his little pre-challenge dance?

Well, at least Leslie's willing to touch the II -- briefly...

Migawd, James and Frosti can move -- and that was a challenge that didn't favor James' body type. If both of them make the merge, we could see some spectacular battles between two very different kinds of athlete.

James is a rock...more like a rock wall. Frosti does remind me of an Ozzy type...sigh.

The poles to the dragons I think were extremely heavy, most of the daws were really struggling with them, especially at the end....

"RE: So what was more obnoxious?"
Posted by Estee on 09-20-07 at 08:43 PM
But that puzzle was on the simple side -- it's a baby's block toy. Anyone having trouble figuring that one out is either on serious mental fatigue, standing in exactly the wrong place, or really, really dumb.

"RE: Survivor #15 Episode #1 East Coast Spoiler Thread"
Posted by Scarlett O Hara on 09-20-07 at 08:20 PM
Immunity challenge requires both teams to carry the poles supporting a dragon through an obstacle course. Big James leads red team and Frosti, the Free-runner leads yellow.

Denise falls down. It's neck and neck. James & Frosti race to jump over some obstacles to let down their draw bridges. Frosti forgets to drop his. Must go back. James' team takes the lead and eventually goes on to plant the poles in the proper holes and solve the puzzle.

Red team wins Immunity and flint!

Frosti(?) had the head of the dragon. Did he really think that the slot for his pole was going to be at the rear or the middle of the stage?

Sherea and Peih-Gee have both hit the 'this is so much harder than I thought it would be' key. Kiss their chances of winning goodbye.

Ashley resents leadership by the apparently-weak. Of course, her leadership model is Vince McMahon, so she also resents leadership by the apparently-sane.

Chicken wants to be Big Tom so badly...

Yeah, Chicken might have shot hisself in the foot, but what do those jacka$$e$ want? They get pi$$ed at him when he tries to get them off their dead a$$e$ and get a freakin' shelter built, then when he refuses to say what he thinks because of them getting pi$$ed at him before, they get pi$$ed at him for that? HellOOOOOO, you doofuses, you can't have it both ways! Make up your feeble minds which way you want it or, like Chicken himself said, you'll be seeing a lot more of JiffyProbe than most of you probably want to.

"RE: The Chicken action figure!"
Posted by Snidget on 09-21-07 at 07:17 AM
What do they want?

Oh I dunno, for people who really do know how to do something to share their expertise in a positive way that gets something done around camp better than it would if they were gone?

Just telling people they are doing it wrong, but not sharing a better way, or clamming up and refusing to answer a direct question about it when you made it clear you thought you knew what you are doing isn't the best way to win friends.

The way things appeared on TV it would be hard to know if Chicken actually knew how to do stuff, or he just liked to tell people that whatever they were doing is wrong.

If he was a teacher of how to build a shelter in a class there may be a place for just asking questions like "do you think that will stand" and not answering questions like "should we do A or B" as it is a particular method of teaching (One I have used in a class I taught in graduate school). However, that sets up a teacher student dynamic that may not be appropriate when you are part of a team. You also have to do it in a way that makes the students believe you are on their side and want them to find the right answer. The questions need to lead people to the correct answer, not just complain that they aren't doing it right.

Even if I was teaching someone something on a Survivor show that is not the technique I would use because it can be problematic. The do it yourself with others watching then have them do it while you watch and correct them as needed would be a better way to share knowledge on something like Survivor. Especially in the early stages of Survivor you usually want to make people feel you are on their team and will be there for them (even if you have no intention of being there for any of them).

"Q & A with Chicken"
Posted by Bravehart on 09-26-07 at 09:47 AM
A lil insight into camp life....

by John Powell, Special to GlobalTV.com

John Powell: From watching last week's show, was it a deliberate strategy of yours to not take a stand on issues and not take that leadership role?

Steve "Chicken" Morris: Yes, it was going into but there is a ton of stuff they didn't show. I did everything I possibly could to make that shelter come together. Within ten minutes, I was drinking water but I didn't tell anyone because I wasn't in their circle yet.

John Powell: Did the age difference and your background play a role in the tribe voting you out?

Steve "Chicken" Morris: You are exactly right. This is a good case of that kind of perception. Those people were on the wrong level. They were on the level of winning the game and going as far as they possibly could. The generations are backwards. They are backwards players. It is a good cast but these people are different. There are 16 chapters in the book and each chapter is different. That is what makes this a very unique game and a very unique show. Being Number One is really great but not in this game.

John Powell: In the first episode, what are some of the things we didn't see about your time on the show?

Steve "Chicken" Morris: Number One, I wish they had of shown when I found the water within the first 10 or 15 minutes. They had done without water for two days. Number two, I wish they showed a little more of me getting along with people in the tribe on Monday and Tuesday there. They really didn't set the tone between me and the other seven people.

John Powell: What made you try out for the show?

Steve "Chicken" Morris: Actually, I just sent in an audition tape and got the application off the Internet. I sat down in the middle of three thousand chickens and told a three minute story on a four-wheeler on tape then sent it in.

John Powell: What really surprised you about the time you spent in the game and in China?

Steve "Chicken" Morris: The shocker for me was the rain was really impressive. The thunder and lightning was so close to the ground. When it rained, you didn't get colder. You got hotter. It rained for the first 16 days. The climate was brutal and the snakes are everywhere. What amazed me is that eight people, eight grown people educated in the United States couldn't come together to accomplish anything. We didn't accomplish anything in three days.

John Powell: Based on your time there, who were you the most closest too?

Steve "Chicken" Morris: Really, really close? No one. No one. Three days, it was gone by the time you got a feel for the game and a feel for the people. I was drinking water and that was the most important thing. I was eating and they weren't. I wasn't about to help them out until I felt secure and bonded with them. I probably could have gotten on my knees and kissed somebody's hiney and stayed another two or three days but it wouldn't have taken me as far as I wanted to go. If things didn't change after I left I totally believe they will walk through. They will vote our tribe out first. They are going down.

John Powell: Why did they vote out the guy who worked so hard? Did they not value hard work?

Steve "Chicken" Morris: Evidently, John. I think they are all just stupid. The old saying is, you cannot fix stupid.
