"More Speaking out from the BV Whores"
Posted by Outfrontgirl on 06-30-01 at 01:00 AM
In a similar vein to DK's thread, I want to start a thread for BV cast members and host to speak out about anything in their characters that feels "off" or "right on"to them--just whatever they feel needs to be said, and hope that writers, moderator, readers, will speak out in return. We've all agreed, I guess, that the writers control the characters rather than the board members whose names are being used. At the same time, we cast members did for the most part submit apps or give some kind of input through posts or email as to how we would play this fantasy game, and to a pretty fair extent we have seen these traits come back at us from Shakes, which gave the characters their start.
Anyway, I'll start instead of rambling on in the abstract.
In the last episode, I will never complain that OFG got a chance to rip into Jerri. Thanks Surv! OFG had some fun.
But one trait she developed was quite out of character. I noticed that she smacked, pushed, shoved, and grabbed in an aggressive way with every AA except DK (smart, black belt).
And I am hoping the next writer doesn't continue on with that because she never did that before. In fact, OFG has been diplomatic and held back her opinions for the sake of strategy, and suddenly she is acting like Dalton.
Well, that's mine. Anyone else pick up anything they want to get on their soapbox about? Any ways they really liked the way they evolved. I'm not looking to start a negative discussion, just give some feedback that would hopefully be noted by writers to come.
Please note, I am not asking for my character to be according to my personal vision, but noting ways it has strayed from itself.
Again, anything I said on my application, no matter how much I might wish I hadn't said it, is certainly fair game for the writers, but I would hope that the traits don't just start changing at random and appearing out of thin air.

Even though I wasn't invited to post on this thread, I just want to note that I will pay attention to what is posted here, and I invite any of you to email me if you have any problems with the portrayals (past or possible) of your fictional variants. I don't know how we can be expected to develop any of these characters without some creative leeway, but I understand that you will have some attachment to your avatar, and I will gladly take under advisement anything you care to post here or send me via email.

Hey, Dabo thank you and let me clear up that I definitely meant to invite the writers to post on the thread and the readers, all-inclusive. I listed the writers as respondants mostly because I was thinking that future writers, such as yourself, want to preserve a sense of secrecy about their plans, as this is a suspenseful piece. So for that reason I don't want to pressure anyone whose episode's still to come to comment on what they are doing with the characters (although if you want to make comments, great). It would be cool if the past writers have thoughts on the characters and of course the audience of BlowsVivor. I've always wanted this to be a project with the whole SB group, not just the people who got put on the cast.
As you said, a person cannot help but feel some connection between their name and the character. SD went over the top, but that doesn't mean it doesn't matter to us (or at least me) if the characters go far far from our personal style.
Thanks for your offer. I don't want to email any writers about what they should or shouldn't do unless they ask me first.
Then I am available. But I thought it might me nice to have a thread to talk about whether the characters have continuity.

Ha! you invited the soapbox?! That would be me! *notices everyone groaning* But "unfortunately," I'm on the downside of too many late nights in a row, with a long drive tomorrow (today) so won't expound much. *notes everyone hurrah-ing--glares*I think we both got a bit much of Dalton's aura. . . I think that hearing "myself" tell everyone to shut up in that way was the first time I really felt uncomfortable. . . And I have to wonder what Dalton thinks about the way everyone ran with that image of HER! She is soooo much more than a tough-talking Texan. . .
My character is somewhat unusual, because I did NOT fill out an application--I didn't give any specifics to work with, I didn't get to request someone for my reward visitor
!--everything has had to be created from my actual board persona. Fortunately, I find it all entertaining enough to not be offended by things like unlikely physical relationships *coughSLURPScough* or a one-track mind (WEED? ME?!!
).
The stoner shtick, I find kind of funny--although I must point out that I have given AMPLE evidence of the real GT all over these boards. . . and NONE of that has been used in BV! Some people newer to the OT would probably be shocked at what a renaissance woman I might really qualify as. . . underneath all the oddball stuff, anyway.
Likewise, DK is not simply hormonal, MC is not merely slutty, Ice is not an android, sleeeve is not a hopeless geek, blah blah blah. I'm sure everyone would appreciate a bit more diversity in their portrayals at this point--as in the show, we find out more about the characters as the story unfolds. And I really didn't expect sex to play such a dominant role. . . yes, shakes highlighted that as an audition thing, but if you re-read the first episode, it really was rather PG-rated!
I've already raised hell and put a block under it, so won't prolong my contribution here. I'm interested to see what the others have to say, as a matter of curiosity, if nothing else. I do wish there was more silly input by those involved in this forum!

Thanks OFG, for starting this thread. I know I opened myself up to be portrayed as a slut because of what I put on my application. I don't mind that. I do regret, however, putting down the Bible as a luxury item. I am by no means perfect in the Christian sense, but I have been offended by the deragatory references in the episodes, to the burning of the bible, etc. I wasn't going to say anything, because I didn't want to open a can of worms or be perceived as a whiner. When we filled out our apps, we were allowed to give five choices for a luxury item, and Shakes selected which one we were to have. I really did not think he would select what he did for me, but apparently he thought it would be funny. If I had my choice, which I don't, I would prefer to be portrayed as just a slut, not a bible- thumping slut. I hope I will prevent flaming of this post by emphasizing that I know I opened myself up to this, but I've realized that some things are just personal.

MC, so glad you posted. Indeed, the Bible and your relationship with it deserves full respect. I hope I did not go over the line with it myself. I brought it in only because each Survivor has had a person bring the Bible and share it with the group--once with mixed results (Dirk) and once with positive effects on those around him (Rodger). I wanted to add a second dimension to your character and at the same time add a parallel to Survivor by having one tribe that might have a spritual center (but which would have members who did not share in it) and one that was purely secular in its day-to-day operations. I did not at all want to mock your interest in religious and spiritual thought, which I much respect and understand to be something you have studied extensively.
Again, thank you for sharing your real feelings on the matter.

I just wanted to say that I have no problems with the way that I am portrayed on Blowsvivor. More than anyone else, I think that the gap between the Blowsvivor Survivorchick, and the "real" Survivorchick is huge. I don't take anything personally and I don't really care that much how I'm portrayed. Keep up the good work guys

I just had some extra Dalton schtick from before I knew she was getting booted and just had to use them up. You seemed like the only one who I hadn't cast into a role as of yet and I had to use up the stuff, so I just made it part of your character.
Second, I'm sorry if I offended you Mon. Being a Catholic myself, I know how serious you are about your Religion, and that's a very very good thing.
Long story short, I didn't mean to offend anyone in my episode. If you felt hurt by your portrayal, I apologize sincerely.
Finally, I am fine with my character. I think it's rather funny how my character ends up being super psychotic, even mildly frightening and disturbing at times. Each episode gives me a good laugh. Keep up the good work guys!

ROFL Surv--
>>Sorry ofg. I know that was your strategy. I just had some extra Dalton schtick from before I knew she was getting booted and just had to use them up. You seemed like the only one who I hadn't cast into a role as of yet and I had to use up the stuff, so I just made it part of your character.I thought I recognized myself channelling Dalton! Well, in no way was I hurt. I just didn't want to keep sounding and acting exactly like the last character to get booted!
Dalton's character is gone from the AA's and so is poor Pepe (but in a blaze of glory), and now OFG/Sleeeve/SurvivorChick/RudyRules/and the Dangerous Kitty are all that remains of the once Arrogant Aussies. I'd say we don't have or want a leader, just an assemblage of personalities.
Oh, and by the way, OFG would not have seriously voted against Sleeeve for being a geek. She likes smart people and he's part of her alliance. OFG can say that because Sleeve's not around to deny it, but they're both spoilers, from California, and not getting any action, so it makes sense.
