Remember all those singers you couldn't stand the first time they showed up on a reality show? Well, here they come again! And given that it's NBC, here they come again for a tenth of the money! The Peacock: the only network with court costs. 'You were expecting a check for this? See you in court!'
The poor Biggest Loser editors, how will they ever cut their show down to 1 hours for the premiere of The Voice??
I was always amazed they managed to get the thing to thirty minutes.Oh, here come the judge credentials. At what point will someone admit 'Forget You' is not the original title of the song?
Presenting the only time you will hear competent singing on this voice for the next two months.
Pre-invited, pre-selected, pre-cast...'Singing is like talking, only from the deepest part of your heart'. What?
...okay, I take the 'only time' bit back.
As Kara sues for copyright infringement.
Y'know that rotating V-for-victory logo? The camera's really got to be careful about how many fingers it catches at once.
The Worsters are having a lot of fun with that logo. Some of the results are even suitable for PG-13 display.
Acknowledges her Idol past, but not the specifics of her dismissal. Chosen by Christina.
They just took thirty seconds to recap an event which concluded immediately before the abridged version. No commercial break, no pause, just 'And now we're going to review what you just finished seeing.'http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/ViewersAreGoldfish
Overall, the quality level of the singers may be higher than Idol, at least when comparing current seasons. But this show is starting with that old LCS advantage: they've already screened their auditionees, tossed the chaff, refused to allow any potential brilliance to walk in off the street, and all they have to do is present whatever they've got left to whatever applause it can muster. Most of which is professional singers with years of experience. Or in other words, this thing is pre-rigged. You're welcome. The question of rigging is a really fun one here, especially when it comes to judge/coach selection of teams. You don't even need to have them wearing earpieces: just vibrate the chair for that Turn Around Now, Damn It signal. Have the teams been chosen before the competition even starts? Do the judges know who every is (along with what they look like) before they ever walk in? Does NBC enjoy lying about its reality shows as a hobby and a religious devotion?
But if we assume the show is at least partially real... making the coaches fight over who they want is a good way to spice up the show: once the egos are involved, then it's all about their team, making them look good, and they may actually put some effort into winning because the victory is all theirs. There just hasn't been any real fighting yet. This show needs a touch of Shark Tank -- and if NBC wasn't so cheap, that could take the form of a bidding war. (I'm sure they'd allow it if the celebs were spending their own money.)
No real feel for the coaches yet, mostly because they haven't had the chance to show how they'd work as mentors. However, Christina would seem to be the Designated Ditz. And given what we've learned recently, the Designated Paula in need of a Designated Driver.
And the rotating chairs are just that cheesy.
I'm taking a wait-and-see approach with this one. But I at least want to try and spot the strings hanging from the rafters.
My thoughts, from a less snarky point, more lemming like approach.Loved it. I don't care that we didn't see auditions, it's tv, it's never going to be authentic and as someone that goes to "battle of the bands" and local "american idol-like" talent shows, there is a reason for that. I want to believe The Four has no idea what the contestants look like, their age, weight or their body piercings. I'm tired of the cookie cutter kids on AI. But that being said, I did love the little, shy 16 yr old that Blake chose.
I loved that Frenchie is back and loved her "up yours AI, I'm still here and kicking" attitude.
Adam is hilarious as a "judge/mentor" whatever they're calling them.
I know Cee Lo is known for one song that's become known for it's PG-13 retitle, but had anyone here heard of him prior to this year? I had to google him and still don't know why he was picked for this show.

I think I had heard of Cee Lo, but I didn't really know him or his music until they played that snippet.I saw just a little of it. And from that and the snippets of commercials I had seen, I thought the singing was better than AI. I don't think I will watch. I'm not really interested in investing in another singing show.

If the dvr runs out of room I will discontinue AI and keep this. I'm over AI this year, even Steven hasn't kept me entertained.

I'm not really interested in investing in another singing show. And yet AGT is set to premiere without mercy.
It doesn't matter who shows up: ultimately, it's a singing show.
Agree! I really liked it. Thought the panel was funny and interacted well. Christina wasn't the diva I'd thought she'd be. Adam Levine came across as kind of a tool, but I do like Maroon 5. Really interesting contestants, too.
It's a Tribe!
He's part of Gnarls Barkley, which gives him some extra musical credibility.
I just learned a few weeks ago that Cee Lo was the lead singer of Gnarls Barkley. My BIL said "he sounds like that guy that sang "Crazy" a few years ago. I said "you're right!" Nolay said, "Gnarls Barkley was a band, not an individual, so maybe it was him." Google confirmed it was.

I enjoyed it way more than I thought I would. It's an interesting concept - just judging people on their voice. But after this first round, I wonder if it'll stay interesting.I liked Adam most of the judges.
I enjoyed this more than I am enjoying this season of AI. I liked the mentors. I enjoyed how they got along.
LAST EDITED ON 05-02-11 AT 08:13 PM (EST)Curiously interesting format. Hand pick the contestants, turn the judges' Enterprise chairs around with their backs to the contestants, bring the contestant on stage, and only listen to the vocal performance with no stage theatrics or images to sway them. Let the judges decide who they like through a real action (turning the chair around) and then explain why, particularly if more than one judge hits the I Want You turnaround button.
No gong button. If it comes to that, it'll be no I Want You buttons.
It's also interesting to note that age isn't a barrier here. Although she wasn't selected, one elderly lady got a chance to perform and did a pretty good job of it. The bar is apparently being set high, but not biased based on age or personal sex appeal.
It is compelling TV? We'll see if I last the hour. (edit to come later)
Well, I'm still here, as I skip the reading of a good book that I'm in the midst of to continue watching this...
No doubt the song quality is higher here than on AI and for that reason it's pleasing to watch, along with the judges reactions to what they hear (but do not see yet) with the later banter between the judges.
What's missing here that's on AI is train wreck potential. We may see some fast trains, some slow trains and maybe even some stopped trains, but I can't imagine there will be any train wrecks on The Voice. And what is it that captures America's short attention span? Sirens, red lights and accidents that we all saw coming just before it happened. We won't see that here.
After watching some more...
What The Voice has that AI is lacking is the judges have a real stake in this themselves. None of this tongue bathing unless they really want the contestant on their team. And it gets interesting when all the judges want someone (like that guy with a white cap and guitar slung over his back) and suddenly they're the ones competing against each other! No Kool-Aid in their drinks. (Come to think of it, I didn't notice any Coke cup holders in their captain's chairs.)
As an aside, I can imagine Steve Tyler hitting that I Want You button as soon as he hears a female voice. Careful there, Steve, what you hear is not maybe what you expect to see.
To close the show, I appreciate the both the clarity and brevity of the upcoming format of the Battle Round (in what looks like a boxing ring!) with 4 contestants remaining per judge, who have to cull their own herd. After that America decides on the judge (I'm still not quite sure how this part works).
Smart (if not obvious) move by NBC to have it on the non-AI night of Tuesdays at 9. AI loyalists may watch this out of curiosity and grow to like it and even become loyal to it, but they won't surrender their AI loyalty to an unproven upstart if both are on at the same time. Smart, even, to have the reply on an AI night, after the AI show, to satisfy the hard-core song competition RTV junkie.
All in all, thumbs up for an interestingly different singing competition format that not only pits the contestants against each other, but also the judges/coaches. I'll be watching this next week.
Replay of the premiere will be tonight at 9 (Wednesday April 27th)
I thought NBC just had a really stupid definition of 'week'.
LAST EDITED ON 04-27-11 AT 11:10 PM (EST)I just hopped over to NBC to hear The Voice and see what this is about, having just read some reviews and summaries of it.
Comments above.
It's the LCS strategy taken to the next level. Of the contestants picked last night, the following already have had careers notable enough to land them Wikipedia pages.http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Javier_Colon
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Frenchie_Davis
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rebecca_Loebe
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vicci_Martinez
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tarralyn_RamseyTotal previous releases: enough.
I tuned in to see if any former AI or AGT contestants were competing. Episode one has Frenchie Davis (AI, disqualified from Season 2).
LAST EDITED ON 05-03-11 AT 10:11 PM (EST)Maybe this show isn't going to be such a big hit after all, given the quietude in this thread. It's more than half an hour into the show.
The novelty factor from the premiere has worn off, but it's still interesting listening and viewing. We get some short snips and a few longer ones of those who are probably the better vocal performers.
(eta) Some pretty good humor by the judges here, all four of them, sometimes a bit risque. We heard the "p" word as one judge thought he was hearing a female vocalist when it was a guy! Pretty good edit work to keep the pace of the fun up, too.
LAST EDITED ON 05-03-11 AT 10:03 PM (EST)Just checking on the ratings and comments here. Color me somewhat surprised as I had thought DWTS had a faithful following.
All in all the first episode of The Voice was great and it beat Dancing with the Stars and Glee in the ratings. It will be interesting to see how it holds up this week. I have a feeling it is going to be just as big and is just getting started.
And it looks like they're pulling out all the stops when it comes to the coaching, making AI's amateurish mentor thing pale in comparison. Hope we see them in action.
Once the teams are formed the coaches will be charged with prepping the singers and according to show sources they will get some help. R&B singer Monica will work with Cee Lo Green. Christina Aguilera will be joined by singer-songwriter Sia Furler. Adam Levine will be joined by producers Adam Blackstone and country music legend Reba McEntire will be joining Blake Shelton. These new additions will help the coaches as they advise their teams.
Also, EW's take.
Head to head, The Voice beat Glee (4.6 versus 3.4 from 9-9:30) and Dancing With the Stars (4.9 versus 3.5 from 9-10). It improved the time period versus NBC’s season average in the demo by 89 percent (5.1 versus 2.7) and in viewers by 60 percent (11.7 million versus 7.3 million). Excluding sports, the 5.1 rating achieved by The Voice was NBC’s highest in the time period since May 12, 2009.
That's a long two-year wait.
Three of the judges don't quite make up their entire team quota of 8, so several past performers get a second chance. It looks like they picked those who were oh-so-close to being chosen earlier, particularly where one or more judges had wished they picked them. Finally, we have the top 32, 8 to a judge, although I can't recall about half of them. Next week is the 'battle rounds' where the teams of 8 get culled down to a more manageable size.
Again, a fairly interesting watch. There's some genuine humor, fun and chemistry on stage between the judges and their contestants as well as between the judges themselves. I think I saw they switched this to 10 EST next week, which may or may not be a good idea, hard to say. We'll see what the ratings look like this week.
Given that I was the only one trying to do live commentary during the premiere (and just watched the thing last night), the lack of activity didn't come as a surprise...Two things hit hard last night. The first was the one where I expect to see immediate retaliation: Adam's declaration that any single person the coaches were rejecting could win American Idol. Nigel isn't going to take that well.
Second: the best undiscovered talent? Oh, so we're going to be playing up this lie again, are we? The sheer number of previous releases present with this group could populate a few garage sales with room left over for a poker folder in front of their corner concert venue. And eventually, someone's going to bring that up -- but it won't be NBC.
Watching the judges not pick was like following an ultra-conservative gambler with a one-day giveaway slot dollar coupon. It's technically the casino's money, but you're not gonna spend it. 'That machine doesn't look right -- no, I think I'll wait on the next machine -- I think that table's cold right now -- I don't like the way the symbols lined up for that last guy -- what do you mean, 'the bus is here'?' Can't take a singer because a better one might be coming down the pike next, and you keep thinking that way right up until you run out of river. After that, it really turned into luck of the random draw order for the second-timers (who can't like their odds). And forward we go to the battle rounds, which would have extensive spoilers if anyone cared enough to look.
We've gotten our first glimpse of the non-stories (although this show was at least generous enough to drop names -- here, CeLo, add this to the pile), and that makes it easier to spot who won't be going through. If the coaches truly make the pairings, some of the winners will be near-automatics. But the hard part starts next week -- if there's effort involved at all.
How much personal investment do the coaches really have in this? Not as much as the cameras are playing for, I think -- not yet. When it comes down to the voting rounds and they're no longer involved in the cuts, that's when they might risk a little emotional attachment. And we won't know how much coaching they're really capable of until we see how they do as teachers. Christina will be a detailed technical instructor just as soon as she proves she is. Which doesn't mean she can't do it -- it just means we haven't seen it from her. And the same applies to the other three in equal measure: place your bets...
Oh, and I do think the timeshift to 10 p.m. EDT is a world-class mistake. But it's NBC, so 'world-class mistake' is the ground floor. (Just wait until they push it to Saturdays.)
LAST EDITED ON 05-04-11 AT 10:01 AM (EST)Two things hit hard last night. The first was the one where I expect to see immediate retaliation: Adam's declaration that any single person the coaches were rejecting could win American Idol. Nigel isn't going to take that well.
Yeah, I caught that but didn't quite get all of the wording of it, as quickly as he said it in passing with his hand raised up as if to signal 'this is how high our bar is'. While I don't think what he said is true, I would agree that at least half of these 32 contestants are a notch above the likes of Jacob and Haley, who are in the F5 of AI.
And yup, as soon as I saw the 10 EST time announcement during a commerical break, I asked myself why. The premiere got off to a great ratings start, this week may not be as high but still good, and usually the 10 EST slot is for leftovers or shows soon to be dropped to the cutting floor.
(eta) Just checked why the 10 EST time slot. It looks like Biggest Loser ballooned from 60 minutes this week to 120 next week, squeezing The Voice into the late time slot.
I don't enjoy watching a show AND being on the computer. Otherwise I would be here. Love this show. And I'm developing a major crush on Adam Levine.*wonder if I can borrow MC's Antique Shoppe since she's not using it much this year.
Not sure why they're moving it, but it will make my Glee life easier.

I don't enjoy watching a show AND being on the computer.Yeah, as a rule, I also don't post during shows -- with the sole exception of the AI ECST. There's so much filler on AI that you can get away with it. Here, I just re-edited and added to posts a bit during commercial breaks, as I didn't want to miss any of it.
I caught a clip last night when Blake gave a second chance to that rocker dude - Jared, I think. I liked his first performance. And this one. I actually pulled out my Dixie Chicks CD today.
Samboobree, brought to life by Arkie
Really smart move of him to do a Dixie Chicks song, when Blake was the one that almost took him the first time and commented "this is a country dude." Nobody else seems to have adjusted like that.

Surprisingly, better than the premiere.Well, last night’s second episode of The Voice not only didn’t tumble, it climbed up the mountain a little higher. The Voice was seen by 12.4 million viewers and had a 5.6 preliminary rating among adults 18-49. That’s up 10 percent from last week’s premiere, which broke NBC records. Here’s how unusual this is: The Voice is the only new show this season on a major broadcast network whose ratings rose for its second episode.
I've hit the "unrecord" on Body of Proof to make sure The Voice gets recorded. Last week I missed part because the DVR decided it liked BoP better.

Floating my cares away with Agman - 2011
LAST EDITED ON 05-10-11 AT 11:48 PM (EST)New format this week. Looks like a boxing ring.
Also new time. Figures NBC would slot this into the 10 p.m. zone after the Biggest Loser.
Looks like each judge/mentor picks a song in advance and a pair to vie against each other, coaches them along with the co-mentor next to a Roland piano, conduct a little chat on white couches, do a daytime rehearsal together, and then send them on stage like a pair of gladiators.
Both sing together, simultaneously switching between solo and duet, free to dance on stage and even (if one so chooses) in the other's face. The solos make it easier to compare voices, but it can be more difficult to tell who's who vocally in the duets. For now, I'm assuming no physical contact is allowed, although a little stage smack through intimidating moves and shout overs seems to be permissible.
The other judges get to make their comments and give a tip of the hat to one of the battle round contestants. (Would they give more glowing praise to the weaker one, just to improve their own team's chances?). The decision rests solely with the judge-mentor of the two contestants, with no voting.
Given the quality of the talent chosen so far, it can be unpredictable who'll the judge/mentor will choose. Considering that the two contestants have shared plenty of time with the mentor/judge and co-mentor over the piano, in couch chat, and in rehearsal, it's likely the judge/mentor will already have an idea who they'd favor based on voice, personality, attitude and potential even before they hit the stage.
It'll be interesting to see if the ratings hold up at the 10:00 time slot. Now that the novelty of the Battle round has passed, will viewers watch the next three weeks as the herds are culled down from 32 to 16? While we see each of the 32 over four weeks, they're leaving out 3/4 of the comp each week and we're already forgetting who they are. It makes you wonder what they're doing while the other 1/4 are working on the Battle round. Stay tuned (so NBC hopes).
MJ of AI blog fame also seems to be interested... good live recap, complete with song titles and contestant names and winners, here.
I think Blake and Cee Lo made a mistake.Blake showed a little insecurity show in his pick. I think Tyler was head and shoulders above Patrick - as did the other judges. But Patrick was "safer". I was disappointed with him and felt sorry for Tyler (can't remember if Tyler had more than one judge vieing for him but if he did he chose the wrong one).
And what was Cee Lo thinking putting Niki and Vicci up against each other?! Ugh. Although I think he chose right between the two (I love Vicci) I think he lost a good contestant in Niki. But he did tell Niki to call him after it was all said and done and he'd help her.
I think NBC has a hit.

Boring.
I've seen better-paced AI results shows.
LAST EDITED ON 05-11-11 AT 09:36 AM (EST)There's the rub. How much real song time was there in that hour? I forgot to time each song, but it seemed like it was about 3 minutes, making the total song time somewhere in the neighborhood of 12 minutes, considerably less than AI's average song time per episode. The rest really is filler and as bad as AI can fill filler time, the filler here is not all that interesting. (There's a full filler sentence for you.)
(eta) Ok, I went back to the videos and looked. Two minutes per. Eight total.
I would have liked it better had two duels per judge happened per week bringing it to only 2 weeks before America votes, but I was ok with it.And one thing I liked about it, that as much as everyone seems to be calling "Foul, Plants!", the contestants are not shy about admitting they've tried and failed before. Or want a bigger career than the one they have now.

Floating my cares away with Agman - 2011
And yet the show itself keeps saying 'undiscovered' as if they're praying someone will eventually believe it. 'Unrecognized by the general population' would be closer. And would serve as filler.
Before the series aired I read that auditions were open to everyone, even previous winners of other competitions. So even Reuben Studdard or Taylor Hicks could have tried out.
According to the Worsters, one of the Rock Star winners did try out -- and not a single chair rotated.
Now that you mention, I do remember reading that Lukas was going to be on it. Bet Glow was bummed.
You know things are bad when you find yourself longing for a badly-theme Ford commerical. And NBC's usual 'decision after the break, break, recap of what happened before the break' format did them no favors. Honestly, it's as if the show was being filmed in real time and the network saw the success of the first two weeks, then decided they didn't want any. Who needs competing series when you have self-sabotage?
I agree that Blake made the wrong choice. I wonder if there is "encouragement" for him to lean towards country performers. Nobody is more country than Reba.I wasn't sorry to see Frenchie go. Those two were portrayed as being kind of nasty.
Adam Levine is pretty funny and I like the interaction between the judges.
Four songs in an hour and a fairly convoluted format could lose people, especially if anyone watches TV live anymore.
I still like it.
LAST EDITED ON 05-11-11 AT 06:29 PM (EST)I agree that Blake made the wrong choice. I wonder if there is "encouragement" for him to lean towards country performers. Nobody is more country than Reba.
My take on this (and I admit I may be projecting)--Homophobia.
I had a strong feeling when Blake chose him that they were a bad fit. He was the only one who turned around, I think, and he regretted it. Tyler was better, but no way was Blake going to choose him.
There are number of gay contestants on here (4), which surprised and pleased me.
Um, and Frenchie didn't go, she was chosen.
It's a Tribe!
Down 19%, quite a dip but not that bad in context of total ratings, which were down for all shows except DWTS for the night.Still, that doesn't spell good news in terms of viewer loyalties, especially with long summer nights spent outdoors coming up.
Part of it is the hour shift, but some of that's got to be the change in format. I'd like to see a segment-by-segment chart -- I'm guessing things dropped off as the show failed to progress.
Oh yeah! Frenchie didn't go. That shows how long my attention can be held when there are 4 songs in an hour.Regarding Blake's decision, I also wondered about the "gay" thing. I didn't see the blind audition, but I wondered if Blake was surprised when he turned around. Those two guys were so different, so the pairing seemed kind of strange.
What I loved about the first 2 weeks was they spent alot of time on the singing and not so much on back stories, etc. This episode cut down on the singing. It dragged because of it. I was surprised how long they spent on Xtina's first 2 singers. I realized then we were only going to get 1 match up for each coach and it disappointed me. If they drag this out before the viewers get to vote they are going to lose viewers.Blake obviously felt comfortable with Patrick and not with Tyler. Considering none of the other judges turned around for Tyler either I think Blake felt OK letting him go.
CeeLo was crazy for pitting 2 of his strong singers against each other.
LAST EDITED ON 05-17-11 AT 11:59 PM (EST)Welcome to 8 minutes of song time and enough filler time left over for you to play an entire album of your choice on the side.
We'll see if the ratings indicate whether people are skipping the remainder of the battle rounds until voting starts or they keep watching to see which 4 more make the final 16. I still vaguely recall a few of last week's winners, which isn't saying much because 'a few' was all there were.
Nakia vs Tje Austin: Maybe I didn't notice it last week, but it seems this week they started showing the names of the contestants and the song they're singing just before the round begins. As usual, and rather annoyingly, there's a commercial break the very second before the decision is announced. This time in favor of Nakia, although I liked the smoother sound of the retro-fro'ed Tje Austin better.
Jared Blake vs Elenowen (guy-gal duo): One of the few shows that actually allow a duo to compete as a single contestant. But it's not an unfair advantage with 2 vs 1 in song, as 2 don't sound so good in trio with an odd man out. Heavily tattooed Jared with the bandana over a bald head takes the round.
Angela vs Javier: These two actually make a pretty good duo. Javier wins the round, probably based on potential and skill, although Angela was the one who was more fun to watch.
Beverly vs Justin: I think Justin was out of his element here, with a song he didn't even know. Still he did well with it. But Beverly is a totally different critter. She brings something on stage you don't typically see from a gal, starting with a bald head! You can guess the rest.
Another comment: It has to be pretty tough to have to perform a song already produced a certain way by the judge-mentor/assistant and to sing it well both along with and versus a competitor. There's no chance to pick a song, or even pick how to sing it. That's already decided during practice and rehearsal, so it doesn't leave the contestants a lot of leeway to "make it their own" or do it like they've done it before on their own.
All in all, not a bad week with somewhat more interesting contestants this time around. Ratings prediction: Close to what it was last week maybe with a slight drop relative to all shows at same dreaded time slot.
I didn't agree with CeeLo's choice. I would have kept Tje. I probably would have made the same choices as they did on the others.
I liked Tje better, too. He had a smoother and more melodic voice with quite a range.
Agree Loree. I was sad to see Tje go.

The good news is with Fast Forwarding I was able to watch the show in about 10 minutes.
I agree-it's a great DVR show!I was all ready to love Elenowen against Jared, but yeah, Jared definitely deserved the win.
I agreed with all the judges picks last night. Could've gone either way with Blake's team, but I can't disagree with his Nekia (sp?) pick.

Latest here.Owing to the strong performance of NBC’s new series “The Voice,” NBC will offer expanded two-hour live episodes of the vocal competition show beginning June 7 (9-11 p.m. ET) following original episodes of America’s top-rated summer show ”America’s Got Talent” (8-9 p.m. ET).
Well, at least they'll start at 9.
And given the time of the year, it'll still be daylight outside.
I missed this one due to power outage, but may catch it later if it got recorded or online.
I missed this one not because of a power outage, but because of an interest outage.Things change up next week. Maybe some viewers' minds will, too.
I watched and was glad I did as there were some that I hadn't seen before. Seems the Spring storms run thru here on Tuesdays and we get nothing but weather coverage.Christina looks to have the weakest team as far as genre's. The last two of Blake's was painful. I'm leaning towards one of Cee Lo's or Adam's winning the thing.

Floating my cares away with Agman - 2011
I didn't agree with Christina's choice lastnight. But Christina is determined to pick all singers like herself. I also think she has the weakest team. I think Adam's team is the strongest. The way I read that the show plays out it is better to be the strongest singer on a weak team. Only one singer on each team will survive to compete at the end against the best from each team. Each week the viewers get to vote to save one singer on each team. The coach then boots who he wants to from the rest of his team.
So all 16 will sing next week?

LAST EDITED ON 06-07-11 AT 04:19 PM (EST)Good question. Given a two-hour show, that'd be 2 acts within each 15-minute time slot, so it's possible. They're calling this quarterfinals #1, though, so I wonder.
I finally caught up with the missed episodes on the show site, and actually it went pretty fast with 3-minute clips and no commercials. No real favorites so far, although there are a few I have an eye on. The live show should separate the good and fun ones to watch and cheer for (and vote for, if you do!).
Agreed. As teams, Christina's and Blake's are weakest. But it really doesn't matter, as it will all depend on did they pick the right ONE.

Christina Aguilera & 'The Voice' Gets Coveted Timeslot On NBC Following 2012 Super Bowl
LOS ANGELES, Calif. -- Christina Aguilera will once again be a big part of Super Bowl Sunday... sort of.The singing superstar, who famously flubbed the National Anthem at the 2011 event, will now join her fellow judges - country darling Blake Shelton, Maroon 5 vocalist Adam Levine and the sassy Cee Lo Green - on "The Voice," which NBC revealed on Tuesday is getting the coveted time slot after the 2012 big game, which will air on the network.
"There is no better showcase on television than to follow the Super Bowl, and we believe 'The Voice' is deserving of such high-profile exposure," Chairman of NBC Entertaiment, Bob Greenblatt said in a statement. "The attention grabbing blind audition phase of 'The Voice' has mass appeal and will fittingly team up with the biggest sporting event of the year."The post-Super Bowl episode of "The Voice" will air on February 5, 2012.
Thanks to the excitement of the blind auditions, where the coaches -- Christina, Blake, Adam and Cee Lo - picked contestants they couldn't see, the show is already a success in its first season.Presently the coaches' own picks are battling it out with each other for a top spot with their mentor. They'll then move to live rounds where the singers will compete with vocalists from different mentors.
"The Voice" currently airs on Tuesdays at 10/9 C on NBC. Beginning June 7, the show will move to 9/8 C.
The Voice to have a special one-hour show just after Superbowl XLVI on Feb. 5.But, it figures that they don't even know what to do with it yet.
The network has yet to decide, however the episode will be the premiere of season 2 or an episode within the new season.
All this depending, of course, if there's a Superbowl.
So, now it's time for the live show, with the top singers from each team battling against each other, down to the Sweet (and not so sweet!) 16!And you can vote! I'm mighty curious how this will be done, but I also don't have high expectations of 140 million (mostly duplicate) votes being cast either! Hopefully, they've learned something from AI about how not to do the vote thing.
If some of these folks look or sound vaguely familiar (apart from the auditions and battle rounds), here are some personal histories. Winner of the first and only season of Born to Diva? I'm impressed.
LAST EDITED ON 06-07-11 AT 09:13 PM (EST)Ok, it's one judges save and one viewers' save per team, with two going home out of four on each team. Interesting concept... the judge gets to keep one, the viewers get to keep one they like. We'll see how the voting thing works tonight.
And that question gets answered pretty quickly. Vote by phone, vote online, or vote by downloading the artist on itunes. Not sure how they weigh these votes, if they do at all. Is it one per?
Tonight: Team Blake and Team Christina...There is a Viewer's Save and Coach's Save for each team, so next week 2 members of each team is gonna be eliminated...
Next week will be Team Adam and Team Cee Lo's members to sing...
Coaches started off the show with a Queen medley: Bohemian Rhapsody, We Will Rock You, and We Are the Champions...Votes via phone #, tweets, digital media, and Itunes downloads, it appears... and you can talk to the singers via Twitter and Facebook, too, during the show...
Each of the artists on the teams will have an individual performance and a team song with their coach.
Limit of 10 votes per method. We get a toll free number which opens at the end of the show. Still haven't seen the online option or itunes download option yet.
... for Team Christina has the opening song. Not bad. A lot of choreography work goes into it before the performance. Vocally, she was sound, looked comfortable on stage, wearing the shortest possible dress, with a team of dancers on stage with her. Definitely AI top 12 quality material here.
So much different than AI! And a lot more fun.
This Place is Gonna Blow...and we immediately see a difference between this and AI: lot more stage machinations in play: Backup dancers, lighting and movement in the video screens which are on and behind the stage... also she did some dance moves of her own.
1-855-VOICE-01, voting starts at the end of the show until 10am Monday.
You lead the ECST props here.Yup, we said the same thing about the stage props and choreography that go into the performances.
1-855-VOICE-02...and yet he's alone on the stage's forefront, starting out with a guitar before he heads out to a mini-stage in the crowd and solo sings to a woman in the audience...
Bald-headed with a wide sparkly bandana, dressed in black and enough chainwear to weigh down lesser mortals, this guy goes for showmanship. His song quality isn't bad, his stage presence after the song looks a little tentative as if want this really bad but isn't sure if he's quite there yet. Let's see what the rest of the team cooks up.
Brett Michaels maxed his votes out for Jared's bandana.

I'm the Only OneFirst problem for her: She's got a cold... and it's stressing her voice... needs lots of rest or risk straining her voice to heck...
1-855-VOICE-03
Another thing vs. AI is that I believe the singers are given more than 90 seconds for their songs... Don't have to abbreviate it... or at least that's what it seems like...
Yup, I think it's 2 minutes (that's what it was during the earlier rounds), which would be easy to verify by checking out one of the show vids.Beverly's dressed in black boots, a red Scottish-style kilt dress and a faux grey military jacket with some red stripes on it. She pounds out this song pretty hard, but if you've seen her before, that's her style, all or nothing.
Looks like NBC.com will be the online voting location... I wouldn't be surprised if Itunes has a special section specifically for The Voice and the artists on the show...
Voting link here, currently closed but should open up at 11 EST.
I'm hating the Beverly mechanical/maniacal head shake. There's little earthquakes in her head on every big note.

By the sounds of things, they're allowed to have choreography if they want, play any instrument that they can do, as well...
Blake saw that she had nervous energy as she practiced, so he suggested that she play the piano... since he saw a YouTube video of her playing it...
1-855-VOICE-04
ETA: Add the fog machine to the stage machinations, as well...
Dressed rather primly, and cute as a button (I'm getting a crush on this gal already), she belies her looks and delivers a rather unexpectedly amazing vocally polished live-wire performance. Two judges fall over in their chairs giving her the highest props of the season. I don't think it was that good, but it was close. Time for me to open the Shoppe here.
I would have put money down that you were crushin' on Dia.But I also thought you'd be leading the thread.
Hah! Where's MC when we need her? Time to get out the swing sets!A real guy doesn't lead, nor does he follow; he flows in time and in tune and in harmony with his partner.
I thought she sang it very well, however...maybe she should have gotten up from the piano 1/2 through and slammed it. Cute.
Really smart move by Blake to have her at the piano, but if she survives, she'll need to work it later on.

LAST EDITED ON 06-07-11 AT 10:01 PM (EST)We get to see her whole team at a dinner at the Geisha House.
Team Song: Lady Marmalade!
ETA: Of note, Costume changes for Christina, and her two girls that have already sung...
Wow, bring them on. Such a diverse mix with Christina and these four gals, and they pull it off with style, with just enough room for a bit of individuality. No lip-synching and I don't hear any auto-tuning with the slight imperfections still heard. Puts AI filler time to shame.
That was amazing!
Hey, there! Like old times, with you around.![]()
*smooches*
Ditto. And last week I was saying Christina had the weakest team. Dang, she pulled them together.
Of note, Costume changes for Christina, and her two girls that have already sung...There's clearly quite a large pro crew behind the scenes, very quick on the take, too. And the worst we've seen so far is Beverly's self-styled outfit, with the rest of it being fairly mainstream, with a bit of glamour and a bit of leg without the raunchy Gaga kind of stuff. There's been an investment made in wardrobe and choreography.
As noted above, as some point in Season 2 will be the coveted Super Bowl slot...
Price TagOn stage backup band and singers with $ dancing on the background monitors...
1-855-VOICE-05
Sweet gal, potential crush material, but didn't care much for the striped dress which less than flattered her. She also wasn't the showlady on stage, standing there delivering her song, and will likely get voted out. But - but - close your eyes and she has a really amazing sound in her voice. I'd dig this in a download, even if I wouldn't bother much with the youtube vid.
I voted for her hoping she doesn't get voted out. Out of everyone she has the most unique voice. Love it. Yes, she needs alot of help on stage presence but...
Agree. Her voice alone won't get her far in this business. She needs to develop more. If she survives, I hope Blake gets her some good style and loosens her up. The poor girl constantly looks afraid.

Big Girls Don't Cry1-855-VOICE-06
She's got a cadre of boy toys for her backup dancers who are doing their best Night At The Roxbury as she walks by them initially...
Midway through the song, the boys have exited stage left and right... I think there was a slight hiccup in her voice there, as well...
Finally, we get AI wannabe material. She's scared on stage, worried about what the judges say, probably picked the wrong song, wardrobe went a little overboard with the mirrors and stuff. And while the judges are kind about it, the criticism is on the mark. None of this Tyler 'beautiful' nonsense (and be sure of it, he'd have her in the sack faster than he can say 'heaven').Which brings us to the judges. They're fairly honest. While they won't slap anyone with the 'karoke' or 'cruise ship singer' label, you can tell by their level of enthusiasm and actual word of praise who they actually like better. No complaints on this score.
Blake invited his team to his house for lunch and discussions.Team Song: This Love (a Maroon Five/Adam Levine hit, I believe...)
Definitely Maroon 5:This love has taken its toll on me
She said Goodbye too many times before
And her heart is breaking in front of me
I have no choice cause I won't say goodbye anymoreWhat I like about these group sings in the midst of the competition is that, along with the solo rounds, it's clearer who the best two might be. After watching this, I know which two I'd like to see go forward in Team Blake.
Word.
And that would be?
LAST EDITED ON 06-08-11 AT 05:19 PM (EST)My vote: Dia. That's all.
Judges save: Xenia has a unique sound, and as much as I like the rocker showman Jared and the cowboy Patrick, I'd like to see her make the next round. While she looks tentative on stage, close your eyes, and she brings you into a different world of sound. Her future hopes (if they are not dashed already) will depend on her stage presence rather than her distinguished unique singing capability.
Edit to add Chritina's team choices:
Lily's out in my books, leaving Raquel, Beverly and Frenchie. While Raquel's performance was quite good, it didn't leave a lasting impression in my ear. Beverly is the obvious oddball choice, going all out all the time. And Frenchie is the power diva who kind of amazes me.
My vote: Frenchie.
Judges save: Beverly for the pow factor, but if not her then Raquel.
Love that moment. My Adam crush is turning into a Blake-Adam crush. A very clever, funny move.

I Hope You DanceSinging this for his sister, his biggest supporter... Country road on the monitor screens behind him, fog's rolled in too...
1-855-VOICE-07
I think the closeup of a girl in the crowd was probably his sister.
*gasping with laughter*Christina takes over the 'Tyler' role by stating she wants to see him out of his pants... I couldn't even take a drink without worrying about either a spit take or a coughing fit...
Indeed! My very first thought was "This is The Voice answer to Scotty McCreery"! I don't think he'll get the girly vote that Scotty did, but he was pretty good, even without the trademark Scotty basso.
Is it wrong that I loved the performance...and agree with Xtina? If that's wrong, I need to open an Antique Shoppe.
To each their own. He bores me in the looks and singing department. But he's a technically good singer, and he's got the Scotty segment of the market on his side. He'll likely be in the final four.

-A Tribetastic Creation
Truth be told, I actually like Scotty's sound better. With Scotty, you can skip the vids, download the itunes, close your eyes, and easily imagine that he's got a lifetime of platinum records already behind him. This Patrick guy? Well, yeah, he looks better, stages better, but I'm not so sure he sounds better.
I think Christina's humor is a little awkward. She won't let a joke die. The pants thing was sort of funny once. The Blake-Adam bromance thing was funny once....she just won't let it go and it becomes awkward.

Carson gives the band pimpage, and they do deserve it for their performances tonight. When Loves Take Over
Christina has Frenchie change out the Christina Glory Notes for something more concise that's more her style.
Laser light show, dancers on mini-stages everywhere, including on platforms onstage...
1-855-VOICE-08
Power diva. She looks it, she sounds it, she sings it. While this song wasn't my cup of tea, I sure felt the storm in the teacup.
Ditto. I dislkie the song, but she nailed it. I agree with Adam's comments. Her confidence and power is beautiful.

Hmmm, both bald divas deserve to be in the finals. Should be interesting.
And it's so much easier than AI. I just cast my first ever RTV performance vote.
You rival the Snidge in your ECST posts (*psst* don't tell her I said that!). Thanks again, you made it easy to comment along the way.
Damn, ya'll! Don't make me have to bring snacks.
Christina's opening number shorts.No. Just -- no.
Most were distracted by her boobs and legs. They didn't get to the part in between.

That first wardrobe change wasn't for variety: it was because if she kept the pressure on her femoral arteries for much longer, she was going to lose her legs. And there's actually a fetish focused on the area between skirt/shorts and tall stockings/boots: Zettai Ryouiki. As you might guess from the name, it was codified in Japan. (Scary, ain't it?)
Scarier yet: You know about this.

I'm not ashamed of my professional skills.
I love the interaction between these judges more every week. And I'm with Christina - I think there's a little bromance stirring between Blake and Adam. *grinCee Lo was rather quiet tonight.
I agree about Cee Lo. I wonder if he's feeling "left out" or just is distracted or not feeling great.

They're backing Xenia and Raquel Castro. (This voting format allows them to boost one member of each team, so there's no problem with splitting.)
All of last night's performances were great, but I thought Raquel Castro's was the weakest.Several times throughout the show, Christina looked like a blonde version of Snooki.
I've put in a request promote this show as one of shows in the Other Shows forums. It looks like The Voice will be around to stay awhile and has garnered pretty high ratings relative to other RTV shows.
Yeah, we know there is at least a second season already in the planning/casting/audition stages... I think one thing to wonder is will they take the Top 16 or Top 8 or whatever on the road with the coaches...?
At least I think we may need a weekly thread instead of one monster.
