I thought it would be another wannabe 'Project Runway', and it is, to a point. It has a really different concept, in that the people who are wanting to launch a new line of clothing/fashion, have their own careers, mostly outside of design. Most/almost all, cannot sew, design, sketch, etc. SO, the addition of a professional fashion seamstress to their team is a very different and unique idea whose time may have come. The characters are quite, ummm, 'different', in a lot of ways. I suppose you could see a few of them on PR or the defunct Fasion Show, but there is one, a fashion writer, who is really out there. And I DO NOT mean that in a bad way. Just very different, in a way that makes you look twice or more. He's quite interesting, really, and his designer is way too much like him, so the drama is inevitable. And HE even said that there will be a toss up to see which 'diva' wins their wars. I did not say that!
Am I watching my back more than usual? Guess you could say that...
Anyway, also includes Lou Rawls', soul singer from the 60's-whenever, daughter. She is a beautiful girl, with seemingly down to earth ideas (she's a contestant, BTW). Also includes a professional CEO, another fashion 'person' (can't remember what it is she actually does, but as she says, she KNOWS fashion!) The others consist of a Recording Artist, DJ, event planner.
The eliminated contestant was a young man (choreographer) who took on too much on his first round, which was a jacket that fell short of the judge's critera. OH, the hosts BTW are Dan and Dean Cater, designers, better known for DSquared2, their own fashion line. They are also identical twins.
Anyway, I think this will be interesting, and maybe a little more dramatic and REAL than we've seen in a while in other fashion shows. Whomever wins will get their own line of clothing launched, and will get a spread in Lucky Mag. Their partner will win $50K. Speaking of the 'partners', some of them seem to really care less if they are there or not, if their designer wins, or whatever. THAT, in itself should create quite a bit of drama. I am going to stick with this until my gut tells me it's trash. So far, so good!
Sorry Mindy, it doesn't look like it.
