"Obsessed"

I am working with A&E and their new show, Obsessed, a show that aims to raise awareness and understanding about anxiety disorders and phobias. These disorders affect and estimated 40 million adults in the U.S., greatly impacting their daily lives. We’d love your thoughts on the issues, and any feedback on the show.

I've been watching, and I really like it. I enjoy positive "before and after" shows--Intervention is another of my favorites.

Seems like they showed the most bizarre patients at the beginning, and now it's more "run-of-the-mill" compulsions--although the picker really had me cringing. The k-sound daughter, the knife episode, and of course the unclean toothbrush(!) user were unforgettable. I love to see them heal and transform themselves. And it's very sad when someone isn't able to take the discomfort and come out stronger on the other side.

I love the show! It IS great seeing people work through some of their obsessions and compulsions. I love to see them come out of the show with a new hope to have a 'normal life'.

Although, the more I watch it, the more I think I have OCD.

Ok...maybe not to the extreme like some of these cases, but I catch myself doing little obsessive things all too often now.

While I believe it is an interesting show, and very valuable for those who deal with these problems, I also have a complaint about one of the people who was showcased on here.

She only went by initials, and darn, can't remember them! TK, JK, something like that? I had seen her on The Dog Whisperer, and nothing had ever been said or even remotely hinted at that this woman had any obsessive problem. She was there to learn how to deal with a dog she had adopted.

Yes, she was a bit 'off' in the episode, and maybe just didn't feel ready to let the world know her problems, or it just wasn't the right time. I don't know. But IMHO, this person is a wannabe reality star, who is utilizing TV to get some airtime. Her entire personna, and the way she over-reacted (drooling, vomiting, etc) when taken to the homeless dog shelter, was just too much for me.

As a nurse, I totally understand that people do suffer from these disorders. Although I am not a psychiatric nurse, and do not have a 100% knowledge-who does?-I think I can tell when someone is real and someone is not. I just don't think this woman was. To top it off, she was dating her shrink. How kosher is that??

Hey Mindy!
I must have missed that episode. I DID see the episode with the lady that was obsessed with the thoughts of dogs being hurt or mistreated. Her father supposedly beat their family dog when she was growing up. I don't think this is the episode you are talking about though. I don't think she was dating her shrink and it DID seem that she had very serious issues. Course, she they DID force her to go to a shelter and she DID react very seriously - or so I thought. Hmmmm..

Dang. I wish I would've seen the episode you are talking about!! Or maybe I am thinking of the same one you are. ??
