"Minority Blues"

Why is it that minorities seem to be among the first to be kicked off/out of these reality shows? True, Gervase made it pretty far in Survivor I, Alicia and Nick made it at least halfway in Survivor II, but let's inventory:

1. Survivor I: Ramona - first one gone
2. Survivor II: Kel - first one gone
3. The Mole: Manuel - first one gone, neither male or female black contestant made it very deep into the game
4. Temptation Island: Ytossie and Taheed - "kicked off" the show
5. Boot Camp: the black girl (don't know names yet) gone before the opening credits practically and the Asian boy - first bootee
6. And if you REALLY want to go back in time, the first person to ever be kicked off from the show The Real World (in the third season) was.............David, the black comic

It seems awfully strange. Why is this, I wonder??

Bananarama,
You are asking for a heap of trouble on this one.
Jane QUIT last night (what a total loser).
Parks was a pushy jerk...I would have booted him too.
Kel had no spine or ability to bond...it wasn't racist.
Sonya and BB got kicked off before Ramona...and Ramona bites anyway! Alicia, Gervase, and Nick seem to have lasted okay.
And Taheed and Ytossie had no right being on that show because
of their kid. They lied.
If somebody gets booted from The Mole, they were the worst
at picking up clues about the mole and it's their own fault.
Any charges of bigotry are nonsense...everybody's gotta go sometime.

Just my rant...that's all!

Taking it a step more.....Alicia lasted a long time on SII and Nick is still there, hiding somewhere. The Black chick, Jane Katherine (never trust anyone with two first names, took herself out after one whole day on the new Boot Camp show. The Asian guy was eliminated by women (another rather large minority) because they feared an alliance. And.....Petunia Pig, who is a female, and certainly should have been booted for holding everyone else up while they cart her lard ass around is still there.

Actually, it seems like that minority thing might not be such a bad gig.

Let me try to hit this one out of the park. I don't mind getting in trouble over issues like this

>1. Survivor I: Ramona first one gone

I didn't see Survivor I, so I can't comment.

>2. Survivor II: Kel - first one gone

Actually the second one gone, and truthfully he asked for it by being very anti-social. Although I'm ex-military and would have rooted for Kel (like Rudy), I probably would've voted off Kel for his actions. He just didn't play the game well. Also, I don't think it was a coincidence at all that Debb was the first to go and that she was also by far the least attractive person in Survivor II.

>3. The Mole:
>
> Manuel - first one
>gone, neither male or female
>black contestant made it very
>deep into the game

Didn't see it; will take your word for it.

>4. Temptation Island: Ytossie and Taheed
>- "kicked off" the show

They asked for it by lying about their child, skin color notwithstanding. Also, did Ytossie leak the news about the child in the knowledge that Taheed was clearly about to dump her completely? Last, I really think the T.I. producers would have loved to keep Ytossie and Taheed because they very likely would've gotten steamy with some of the singles, whereas none of the other "committed" couples did until possibly on the Final Date. Although the final bonfire was clearly scripted, I could see Taheed dumping Ytossie if it hadn't been for the child issues.

>5. Boot Camp:
>
>the black girl (don't know
>names yet) gone before the

>Asian boy - first bootee

Firstly, Katherine quit. Quite frankly I do not understand why she even went onto the show, but she gave it no effort and she voluntarily quit. Not much anyone can do about that. Park, the Asian bootee, was the victim of a GENDER alliance (if you want to discuss the racial issues, we could REALLY get into the sexism issues with this show, IMHO).

>6. And if you REALLY want

I only vaguely remember this, although I have no doubt you're telling the truth. But what was the reason for him getting booted? I don't think he got along with anyone very well, did he?

>It seems awfully strange. Why
>is this, I wonder??

We could probably debate it, argue about it, make some unprintable statements about it.

On the Survivor Spoiler board, I took up the gauntlet about the Survivor castings. Were Nick and Alicia chosen merely for being black, to meet diversity requirements for the cast? I then wondered if once Mark Burnett (MB) met his diversity requirement, he just let things go along (not intentional bad-mouthing or ignoring, mind you). While Alicia proved to be a fine choice and has been a dynamic contestant (and darn beautiful coming out in that black clothing as the first Jury member!), Nick has pretty much sat on his fourth point of contact the whole time. Admittedly, he's been sick.

So I'd have to say that some of the issues you (rightfully) bring up can be traced back to the "need" to have diversity in the cast, then those choices based on that diversity sometimes not working out. This is a Hollywood/New York mantra and my brother has told me a lot about what goes on (he's in the New York performing arts arena).

I didn't say any of this was racist (or even undeserved), just simply that it was interesting.

Kel's mistake was he went off on his fishing and hunting trips by himself. Why he was trying to get food, others were plotting against him. When the ##### made up the beef jerky story, he had nobody to back him up. Two weeks ago on the recap show, Kel wasn't even thinking about forming an alliance as he told Bitchell.

Alica, played a big role in S2

Nick - well, he is just there if u ask me. He seems more lazy than Grevase, who himself said he was trying to do as little as he could. Nick will prolly be gone this week if he don't win immunity again. He don't seem tight with any1.

Those two knuckleheads on Temptation Island never should of been there from the start. They had a child and that was against the rules.

I agree that those who got booted first are usually the minorities(excluding blacks and whites).
Remember Making The Band? Bryan Chan performed very well, at least better than that Ikaika freak, and i think he shoul be in the group. But i think its most probably the fact that they do not want an Asian to be in the group or something.
