Yup, I was waiting for either or both of you... the show was already on the air when you posted.

Might not post here too much tonight, still a lot of clues to look for in determining the crew character and strengths/weaknesses. We didn't get much last week along this line.

Capt. JD is starting to assign posts.

He's got Sean as Cook (Bartender in real life. Hmmmmm)

He's got Jay as a Bolson/Union Leader of the Crew (Auto Worker, I think he knows something about unions.....)

Jay says he's gonna play both sides of the fence.


I wonder what's gonna happen when they finally open up chamber 2 of the Chest of Zanzibar.... will there be more compasses? will they draw for new crews? will someone be sitting out? Stay tuned........

What a very, very long recap that was.

I think we may need an opening credits analysis thread: the X mark after John's appearance was just a little too cute.

And we might also need an extra character for the Be The threads: we have Joe Don, and now we have Joe Don's ego. Sure, he can put all the positions he likes into place, and he can use whatever vague threats he can think of -- but does he really think his captaincy is a permanent position?

Before the expedition we see lots of shots of the bulk of the crew working with JD looking on eating his (bigger) breakfast.

Expedition 2:

Captain and officers are guaranteed to be on Black Crew

Everyone else is randomized.

If the Red Crew wins, they will pick a new captain/officers.

Black Crew wins, Captain change? Unknown.

When there is an odd member, they get automatically assigned to the Captain's crew.


This one involves a long swim then a bit of a hike to the vine-filled Sabotage. Then a looooonnnnnnggggg hike to a snake pit, which contains the tools to unearth the treasure........

Joe Don is not happy about the chance of being overthrown via challenge -- but it probably isn't this week: as our known future captain is on his crew, he's safe from that direct result.

And this expedition required no compass to find the location. Gee, wonder why.

Did Joe Don just say something to Amzyth about leading the tribe?

Do we have a herpetologist in the group tonight? Can anyone tell what kind of snakes those are? No way there's anything poisonous in that pit, and they're not going to risk even a minor constrictor -- the worst anyone should be looking at is a few defensive bites.

Not a venemous snake amongst the bunch. The network isn't that crazy. Having said that? I saw a couple of constrictors that have really nasty tempers and will give you a painful bite if you mess with them.

Two ways to take the comment "shark infested waters"...

1) There's only 1 body of water on the planet. No matter where you live, it's all connected. So, technically, you're in "shark infested waters" when you're in your bathub.

2) There actually are Bull Sharks, among others, that swim the waters around Dominica. Bulls are one of the few known to attack man. So...

Keep in mind, though... On average there are 4 fatalities, world-wide, each year due to shark attack. Man kills somewhere between 25,000,000 and 50,000,000 (yes, those are millions) sharks every year.

They get the shorter end of the stick any way you place it.

Even with Joy's injury slowing them down for this expedition, both challenges have so far come down to who reached the Yield sabotage point first. If it keeps working out that way, things are going to become very repetitive.

Not sure I'd trust anyone in this group with a gun...

Careful, Azmyth. The captain doesn't like people who are smarter than he is. (In other words, the captain doesn't like anyone.)

If the Captain's Crew wins, he's gonna remain Captain.

He then has the option to keep his officers or change officers.

If Azmyth is wearing the Captain's hat at the end of this episode, then *thumb across throat* JD's gonna see a mutiny!

He threw a pittance to the crew members. Crew's reaction? Big deal!

He also threw 2k in gold to the Bolson, hopefully to get a warning of incoming daggers. (I don't think it's gonna work JD.....)

That would be "Bo'sun" as in Boatswain's Mate. (Pronounced Bo-sun's Mate) That's the person that is in charge of the deck crew.

Not just Pirate talk. It's still a real position in the sea service.

I've been sailing since I was a kid. DH is ex-Coast Guard. Their captioning is wrong.

There are supposed to be 3 Black Spots. I think that the Captain should be required to pass out 2 of them to members of his own team. Only 1 should be able to be given to someone on the opposing team.

Since they randomly switch teams every week (evidently), that could really change things up in terms of potential mutiny.

JD currently has won $42,500 (some of which has been redistributed to the crew/Bolson...)

The two officers have won $10,625 each

The rest of the crew have $2,000 from those who won the first expedition, $2,250 from those who won the second expedition, a pittance from the Captain's "generosity", and the Bolson has an additional $2,000.....

The first one can be captured by an undermounted camera, but the others stack on top of it. We can't really watch who people are voting for as they go without some enhancement -- and it's just as hard to show us the vote afterwards.

Speeches from the voting contestants are pretty much completely out.

Does anuone else want to see them walk the plank when they are booted out? That would be so much better than being "set adrift"
Especially at night, they would be freaking out. It's not like a shark would get them, a boat would pick them up after the camera got it's shot.

I'm not sure whether I like this show or just simply watch it. Right now I have no real feel for the majority of the cast and we are lacking major strategizing discussions.

Joe Don is ruling with too much ego. He seems to have forgotten that he's not a real pirate. Heck, the guy isn't even giving the crew the illusion of happiness or content. Feeding them very little gruel and then openly eating a pimped out breakfast while watching them scrub the deck is just rubbing it in. The $200 was a weak gesture. I think the only somewhat good move he's made is excluding his officers from the crew so that he has more control over them, but with the way he's playing everything else that could end up biting him in the butt too.

That A. guy definately needs to tread lightly. Joe Don is obviously weak as a captian (other than having a mouth) and will target anyone who others would gladly put in his place.

And no way were those poisonous snakes. I wouldn't want to be near them things my self but I wouldn't think they would put those people in that much intentional danger.

Episode 2 was much more interesting than episode 1. The pirate theme is silly but the dynamic between Captain JD and the crew is interesting. JD is developing an excellent training video on how NOT to be a good leader. The show is worth watching for that reason alone.

If the captain loses the vote is he cut loose (set adrift?) or does he remain a crew member? I'd much rather see JD stick around for some well deserved humiliation after chowing down in front of his hungry crew.

Not sure why the cook thought that serving gruel was going to win him friends. Is there a food shortage?

If a Mutiny occurs, by all of the Pirate's Court voters and the officers agreeing unamiously (that's the rub), then JD (or whoever the Captain is at that time) gets set adrift immediately.

Food shortage? Heck no, just look at the amount of food that JD got to eat....... I think it's more along the line of rations for the crew and all out blitz for himself and his officers.
