""Eggtown"- 2/21/08"
Interesting to see what that episode title means!

*jumps up and down* Thursday night finally! I think I prefer it on Wednesday though cause I feel I get more time to read the internet afterwards than I do on a Thursday.

See ya in another life!

Warning: for those who want to know- but don't read the hidden text below if you don't want any spoilers-

This episode is about Kate- the preview said another of the Oceanic 6 will be revealed- but I think it is just going to be Kate.

"Kate's need to get information out of the hostage may jeopardize her standing with Locke -- as well as with Sawyer.

6. "The Oceanic 6 = The Nine?"
I've figured out why I'm not getting into this season: With the Flash forwards, the story is taking the same format as that horrible show that was "The Nine". Where those characters had been changed by being victims of a bank robbery, we were slowly shown what happened to traumatize them in flashbacks. They knew what happened but weren't telling.

Lost was amazing when we shared the Losties desperate search for answers. Neither they nor us knew what the Island, the Others, Dharma or anything else meant but we were finding clues 'together'. Now, like "The Nine", the "Oceanic 6" know what happened on the Island, probably know everything about the Others and Dharma but they aren't telling. We are therefore separated from them, our connection to them has been broken.

What's worse, with Miles' talk with Ben, the war between the Others and Dharma appears as a vile commercial battle.

I feel the disconnect too, but I have high hopes that when we come full circle, it will be worth it. Lost is by far still my favorite scripted TV show. Kate and Sayid aren't my favorite characters either so I expect to get into it a little more when it's Desmond's turn (like where the heck the helicopter has been for 24+ hours!)

I liked the creepiness of the Losties vs. the Others and the island. It's not the same as versus an international corporation. Ben lost some of that wonderfully creepy mysteriousness when he was negiotiating a multi-million dollar deal.

I still don't get the "Eggtown" title, but what do I know?

I called Aaron being Kate's son when she first mentioned him. This probably means he is one of the Oceanic Six, and Claire-Bear doesn't get off the island.

What was the deal with Faraday having trouble remembering the third card? Maybe he was locked up with Hurley at some point.

What is Phil's golf equipment?

My guess, eggtown was referring to Claire and Kate and their eggs.

I also called that Kate's son was Aaron, well before they showed us.

Edited to add, I didn't take it as "forgetting" what the cards were... I took it to be he could only read two of the three.

Aah, that makes sense! The only eggs I noticed were the ones Locke cooked for Ben, but your suggestion makes more sense.

ETA: Sun was also talking about raising their child in Korea, so yet another "egg" reference.

Yippeee! Another good episode! Definately the weakest of the four but still good!

I'm guessing that Daniel and Charlotte are beginning the experiments that Dharma was doing with the ESP and stuff. I wonder if he had no ESP before or had some?

I also wonder if Claire gave Aaron to Kate because she would have to give him up when they were rescued. I'm wondering if Claire is somewhere close to Kate so she can remain involved.

I never thought Kate had Sawyer's child because I thought anyone that gets pregnant on the island dies? If all it took was leaving to live then I'm sure the Other's would have sent the pregnant women off to deliver.

I did however think that the son she was talking about in the beginning was a child she had prior to the crash. I thought she did not want him to testify but then she said baby and it was assumed it was Aaron.

Xanadu! I bet MRC liked that!

Eggtown? Was that in reference to Locke's eggs and chicken? Or fertility?

I love the flashforwards or flashbacks. Makes no difference to me as long as the writing continues to remain strong. Each week it has me speculating and guessing how these characters got to where they are and how they will go forward. I really feel the island mysteries are deepening.

I am assuming that at some point he'd learn Clair is his half sister, so Aaron would be his nephew. Maybe Clair wanted him to take care of Aaron and Jack refused-or maybe something bad happened to Clair and seeing Aaron would remind Jack of it too much?

Why do I keep thinking first year of lost, when Clair went to get a reading from a phychic who told her she would have to raise the baby herself? Is that what he, the phychic said?

I don't think that Claire is dead and I don't think that Aaron counts as one of the Oceanic 6.

I am really confused about why Jack doesn't want to see Aaron either. He still loves Kate so he can't feel that way if she kidnapped Aaron. She must have snatched Aaron to save him. Was it at Claire's request or was there another reason?

I think that something really bad must have happened to Claire for her to give Aaron to Kate. Claire wouldn't just give up her child like that. Plus, she probably remembers the creepy prophecy given to her by the psychic. I'm really intrigued to find out what happened to Claire. I really hope she's not dead.

I was wondering about why Jack refused to go near the baby.

Here's a theory, though half baked...

Remember the 'dropping rabbit scene', on one of those dharma films, where the rabbits unexpectedly dropped from the ceiling?

Remember when the guy shouted something like
"Keep them away from each other!"

Why was it important to keep them away from each other? It HAS to be important somehow, doesn't it?

Is there an anti-magnetic energy surrounding babies born on the island? A cloned, antimagnetic twin? A mysterious magnetic mysticism that manifests into black smoke properties?

My brain just exploded....

Is it possible that instead of the quote listed above, that the psychic said, "Don't let the baby be raised by an other"? I don't have a tape to check it, but it occurred to me that it would be easy to hear that as "another" instead of "an Other".

17. "Assuming"
that Jack's FF from the finale is after these current FF something had to have happened to make Jack fall apart. He still looks pretty put together in this one although I think the strain of lying is starting to show.

He lied under oath about the rescue, loving Kate and the number of survivors. Still does not explain why.

I wonder if anything is physically wrong with Aaron. He could be sick in some way and Jack could not "fix" him. Since Jack has a thing about "fixing" things. I don't think whether he knows Aaron is his nephew or not plays into this. I think he would react the same either way.

Yup, I think chronologically this was the first flash forward. Then we have Jack starting to drink, visiting Hurley and "thinking about growing a beard" and then we have the finale flash forward.

Whatever happens sure is weighing heavily on Jack and sends Hurley into hiding at a loony bin while Kate is just looking out for herself (and Aaron). But you just know she's going to break parole and head back to the island eventually!

Fortunately, I got the season 3 DVD for Christmas.

No cornfield kid. The scene:

Jack: I am sick of lying. We made a mistake.

Kate: I have to go. He's going to be wondering where I am.

Jack: We were not supposed to leave.

Kate: Yes, we were.

14. "Meaning of Eggtown"
From a thread on Lost-Forum:

"The title 'Eggtown' is basically a reference to a quote by the Soviet leader Vladimir Lenin 'To make an ommelette, you've got to break some eggs.' This is intensified by Locke making Ben the eggs in the opening and how Locke ends by stuffing the grenade in Mile's mouth...which is pretty damn badass."

I like Breezy's interpretation better, though.

Sigs by Bob about chalk dust. Pretty exciting stuff

21. "Another explanation for Eggtown title"
From Lostpedia:

Egg-town is a pejorative term that refers to the days of bartering. A traveling salesman would have to barter his candy or tobacco or shoelaces for different commodities. A poor exchange would be for eggs, a relatively common item that is also highly perishable. Nobody wants to trade for eggs from a traveling salesman because they have their own, so the salesman who accepted an egg in exchange was forced to accept a bad deal. Salesmen would use the term like "If I were you I would stay away from Bogart. That's an egg-town." Of course, the lack of trust among salesman was also high, and it was likely that one salesman would lie to another about the quality of a town's customers to keep them for himself. Invariably, the second salesman ventures into to Bogart only to find it is truly an egg-town. He is either persuaded to not visit a town that has good customers or is tricked into visiting a town that can only offer eggs. The term "egg-town" represents a deal with undesirable outcomes in either case.

Interesting, as there are several bad deals in this episode.

Yikes- I didn't see it coming at all that Kate's "son" was Aaron!
So does Aaron count as one of the Oceanic Six? That only leaves one spot then- Jack, Kate, Hurley, Sayid, Aaron, and....

I was thinking last season that Desmond told Charlie he saw a vision of Claire and the baby getting on a helicopter?

Was the experiment with Daniel memory or ESP? He is so "off".

Locke with Miles and the grennade- that was something! Why does Miles want $3.2 million from Ben- what is with that number?

major spoiler alert: hidden text
According to Ask Ausiello- a major character dies between episode 4 & 8 in an unexpected way. I have nothing to go on at all but I suspect it is Jin at the end of ep 7.

can't wait till next week!

On the witness stand Jack says only 8 people survived the flight. He says two die later on. As Kate saved all but two. My guess one of those has to be Claire as Claire had the baby on the island and that could not be hidden. The other one I wonder who it could be.

I don't want to read your spoilers. Things are much more interesting seeing them develop on the show...then reading then in a couple lines on a website.

Wow, we learned a lot from this episode. And, of course, we have a lot of questions.

1) The Oceanic Six came up with a story of Kate as hero to save her from prison when they returned. They may have been motivated by the need to protect Kate for Aaron's sake.

2) Their story was there were eight survivors but two didn't make it. One of those two has to be Claire to account for Aaron's survival and Claire not making it back. Who is the other one? Must be someone else that they had to account for some reason.

3) We know Claire is not one of the Oceanic Six. She's most likely dead or less likely was left on the island.

4) We can surmise that Jack feels in some way responsible for what happened to Claire and that's why he cannot bring himself to see Aaron. Perhaps Claire is still alive and that's why he wants to go back? To save her and redeem himself?

5) There are a lot of people who know the truth of the Oceanic Six. All the Others, most of the Freighter people, the Survivors of Oceanic 815, even Penelope Widmore may have some idea from her brief talk with Charlie. What could have happened to make all of them willing to lie or unable to tell the truth?

Great episode and I am really enjoying trying to figure out what the heck happened.

Why does the rest of the world think that the baby really is Kate's then rather than Kate adopting the son of another crash victim? Even her own mother wanted to see her grandson just once. I don't think she would have been that interested in seeing him if she knew he was not her biological grandson.

How old does Aaron look? I was thinking 2 1/2. He's only about 3 months old in the island scenes so quite a bit of time has passed...

I don't think we know enough yet to say what the outside world thinks of the relationship between Kate and Aaron. However, speaking from experience with my mother and my stepson, the biological-nonbiological thing doesn't make a difference with many, if not most, people. Kate's an only child, and Aaron, biologically related or not, is the only grandchild Kate's mom is ever going to have.

Regarding his age, I can think we can pretty safely conclude at this point that time moves differently on the island. This would, conveniently enough, also explain why Walt seems to have aged so much.

I loved when Locke said a few episodes ago, "I saw Walt, he looked older." Just a throwaway line to the audience, that yeah, we know he's not the right age anymore.

I don't think he was one of the eight though. I took it that Jack said 8 survived the initial crash, but then two died before being rescued. Jack said the marshall didn't survive the crash.

Well, I think we can safely say that anyone else who survived the crash is either a: dead or b: in hiding on the island. That would render them unable to talk. I think we can also say that the freighter folks really have no intention of letting anyone know that the island exists - after all, their mission was to discover the island, not rescue the survivors. Additionally, in his testimony Jack mentions that they nearly starved to death, which has led some online to speculate that they will eventually lie about where they were discovered, that they will say they were found on a much barren island. After all, the island where they are doesn't appear to exist on outside maps. (I wonder if using a submarine makes it easier to approach the island? Hmmm.) That leaves the Others, who are probably as deep in hiding (except for Ben) as the surviving Losties.

I freaking love this show. I do.

1. I didn't see Kate's son being Aaron until he said 'mummy' in a little bit of an accent. I thought 'Why did he call her Mummy with what sounded like an Australian accent?' And then she called him 'Aaron', and my jaw dropped. What a way to end the show.

2. I also took Faraday and Charlotte with the cards as him 'forgetting' the cards, but maybe Charlotte never showed him the cards and he 'ESP-ed' them and got two out of three right?

3. Loved when Hurley asked Kate 'Man, you just Scooby-Dooed me, didn't you?' Pretty funny stuff.

4. The tension between Kate and Sawyer - was that the end of their love-hate relationship? He called her out on coming to him when Jack didn't work out for her, and got himself slapped. Are they done?

5. I think they specifically showed us Locke playing backgammon as the dark pieces because Locke has gone a tad bit over the line. I think the grenade mught be just a ploy, because what good is Miles if he's dead? Then Locke will never know what he knows, and Locke seems pretty info-hungry at the moment.

6. Maybe Locke has lost part or all of his connection with the island. Can't find the cabin and Jacob, got outsmarted by Kate and Sawyer, doubts his leadership. Doesn't seem like the Locke we used to know who was always one step ahead of everybody.

Shar saves the day!
