I'm just bewildered at how these are in the top 10. Frank Sinatra copycat? PUHLEEZE..not worth it. Kaitlyn? Very cute but definitely not worth it.Geeze now I can see why I could care less about this show. Now if I can only get my family to see how bad this show sucks. YMMV

2. "9/17 performance show" |
In which our Top 10 duke it out for the Top 5 spots! In order of performance -- Paul Salos (Frank Sinatra impersonator). I think the guy knew he had reached the end of his run and decided to go out big. A disappointing performance because the song was just too much for him. Kaitlyn Maher (child singer). For the first time I really did not enjoy her performance, horrible song selection and she just couldn't make it work, painful to watch. Donald Braswell (singer). Another good Braswell performance, maybe his best, unfortunately he sticks to niche and, though the talent is there, it doesn't quite work for me. He may well make Top 5. Jessica Price (singer/again she left her guitar backstage). She took a risk in her song selection and did a credible job of doing it in her own style. Not perfect but her best performance to date, she may well make Top 5. Joseph Hall (Elvis impersonator). Ouch! A little too much Elvis reaching, not enough singing ability. Bad song choice, he just wasn't up to it. The rest of the performance worked, the moves and mannerisms and planted screaming audience members who turned out to be dancers; didn't work for me but the live audience got into it. Neal E Boyd (singer). Took a risk, parts of the song didn't work out so well, but when he unleashed his amazing vocal instrument it worked, plusses outweighed the minus. Probable Top 5 despite a few problems tonight. The Wright Kids (child musical/singing group). Managed to get through a difficult performance quite well, a lot of words coming quick for the front kid in such an up-tempo selection. A credible performance despite a few problems, may make Top 5. Queen Emily (singer). She went big again, and she does that marvelously. I wouldn't want to sit through a 90 minute concert of showstopper after showstopper after showstopper but she should make Top 5. Nuttin But Stringz (violinist duo). Love these guys, they are original though I do wonder if they can bring more emotional range to their performances, should make Top 5. Eli Mattson (singer/piano man). In the hero theme of the night he did justice to an Elton John song and did it in his own style and made it work. Like all of his song selections, though, he sticks to his safe zone, I would have loved it had he took a really big risk and maybe, for example, gone with "Circle of Life" but he didn't. Probable Top 5.

Actually, Elvis did do that song for a 1968 film, but it never took off and became a hit though released as a single, and was virtually forgotten until it was revived a few year back. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=k7j_U4rA3II Granted, it is not the remix version that eventually became a hit long after the death of Elvis.

The first half of the show basically sucked big time. What a relief when 9:00 rolled around! These 4 should definitely make the top 5: Neal E. Boyd Queen Emily (loved that Piers actually gave her a standing ovation) Nuttin But Stringz (liked them much better last night) Eli Mattson The 5th spot is a toss-up. I'm afraid there will be a backlash and tons of people will vote for Kaitlyn Maher. Hopefully that doesn't happen and either Donald Braswell or Jessica Price make the top 5. I got sliced!

And, am hoping that last spot will go to Jessica, who blew everyone, including ME, out of the water. But either way, that last spot should go to either her or Donald. The other 4 are just rubbish, and should not have ever made it this far. Enough of the cutsie 4 y/o-who in their right mind is going to sit through 90 minutes of THAT? And how in the world could she even deliver in the first place?? We get the point: She IS adorable and obviously very smart, but Piers is right on 100%. This year just doesn't have the versatility or even the personalities of the previous years. Don't know what happened, but sad that we're left with 9 singers (two of whom are impressionist) and 1 brother/string act. I'll take the Strinz over the rest, thank you!!

I'm agreeing with Grit. Nicely done. When Neal said his choir teacher noticed him when he was imitating Pavarotti in the hallway, I was thinking "oh, well do it then - maybe he'll come back to singing opera". Sadly no. He BETTER bring it next week or he's as good as done. I think Emily was better than Neal last night. I don't think I would pay money to see her scream for 90 minutes though. NBS better step it up too. They were better last week. Eli did a respectable job but is too safe. Interesting how that works - you're either too safe or too "out there". About that 5th spot.... Jessica has certainly improved - but I don't think she should win. And Donald bores me. I do hope it comes down to these two for that final spot though.

All America Votes Night, No Judges' Decisions! Thank You!Bout #1: Nuttin But Stringz vs. The Wright Kids. Say goobye to the Wright Kids, the only nonsinging act left makes it to the Top 5! I'm kinda sorry to see the Kids go, them's the breaks. Bout #2: Joseph Hall vs. Queen Emily. In a night of nonsurprises, say goobye to the Elvis guy who is going to end up in Vegas anyway. Bout #3: Kaitlyn Maher vs. Neal E. Boyd. She'll be back! Kudos to Jerry and the producers/directors for figuring out how to not have Kaitlyn say a single word about her loss. Loved when she went over to congratulate Neal by biting him in the knee.. just kidding. Bout #4: Paul Salos vs Donald Braswell. Donald manages to survive again, there may still be a sympathetic voting blok working here, but given the pairing I wasn't surprised at the outcome. Bout #5: Jessica Price vs. Eli Mattson. This ended up being the only bout I wondered about; Jessica outdid herself last night, and while I totally respect what Eli does he is kind of a dud in nonperformance stage personality, let me put it that way. In the end Eli survived, but I wouldn't have been surprised had America prefered the eyecandy. So, we lost the two remaining kid acts, and the two impersonators, and the oldest Top 10 performer. Four singing acts remain, one musical act. Only one of those singing acts is also a musical act. Only one woman remains, only one nonsolo act remains. Our Top 5: Nuttin But Stringz, Queen Emily, Neal E. Boyd, Donald Braswell, Eli Mattson. Interesting dynamics, shame there isn't more diversity as in previous years.

Bout #1: Nuttin But Stringz vs. The Wright Kids. I felt bad for those poor kids. The little girl looked p.o.'d - probably because she knew there was no way they beat Stringz. And I felt so bad because the older boy was obviously crying. They're young and talented - we haven't seen the last of them.Bout #2: Joseph Hall vs. Queen Emily. Queen Emily almost looked like she was afraid there would be a surprise voting result and she would be out. On a side note, when watching Joseph's video, it was really obvious how much he morphed into Elvis during his time on the show. And, I feel like a dirty old lady saying this, he is hot! Bout #3: Kaitlyn Maher vs. Neal E. Boyd. When these two went against each other, I was pretty sure she was out, but I could have sworn that Springer alluded to a surprise result and wondered if this was it. I'm surprised she didn't cry. Her parents must have prepared her for it. Bout #4: Paul Salos vs Donald Braswell. Paul Salos is a classy guy. I don't think he's the best but I did enjoy him. He has more personality than Donald Braswell. Braswell is pretty talented but he has yet to connect with the audience on any level. Bout #5: Jessica Price vs. Eli Mattson. I wondered about this one too. Could this be our surprise result? Jessica looked like she knew it wasn't her, though. I was surprised she was able to smile and be gracious when she got voted out. I also wish there weren't so many musical acts. Bring back the flaming baton twirler! (Oh, and bring on my lobotomy! ) I got sliced!

I really think the voters got it RIGHT ON this time. I'm disappointed that all but one act is a singing act, too. BUT, such is life. What can we say? Americans love to be sung to death, to sleep, to whatever. My prediction is there will be a tough draw between the Queen and the Stringz in the Finale.Love them both, but they both need way more originality and diversity to hold a 90 minute audience. That comes with experience. All new entertainers have to learn that, don't they?

I do not believe it...the top 5 are the same top 5 I would have picked. I was amazed. It is so good to have some singers on a show that can actually SING. This is my lvoe/hate list for the week: 1. Donald Braswell-it seems I must be the only one who loves him. I think he gets better each week. This man should be on Broadway. 2. Neal E. Boyd-he is awesome! I don't think he made the greatest song choice, but as Sharon said (I can't believe I am agreeing with her), he could sing a nursery rhyme and it would sound wonderful! (I am so glad she did not use the Randy Jackson "sing the phone book" comment.) 3. Eli Mattson-what an incredible musical talent. I loved what he did with the song, especially piano/harmony-wise. I really like his voice, but I wish he would be Eli and not Elton. 4. Queen Emily-she has a great voice when she is not screaming. Unfortunately, this week most of the song was screaming. Can you scream "vocal nodes", Emily? You will have them soon if you keep abusing your voice. 5. Nuttin' But Stringz-Am I the only one who thinks they are getting worse each week? It seemed to me like now they are relying on drummers and ladies swinging in the air rather than their own talent, and they do have the talent. I do wish they would expand on that talent rather than the gimmicks. I started laughing when the ladies started swinging around. To me it looked ridiculous. AF 2006
