"I've got a bad feeling about the potential "winners"" |
There have been some things to like about this show. However, there have been some things to dislike too. One of those things to dislike is the casting. CIA and Air Force were basically the 2 teams that have appeared well suited for this. The editing has not been good but for the sake of assumption, let's suppose that CIA really did find the Girard boat clue that opened the cryptex around the same time that Team "Genius" (dumb and untrue name) found it. One can conclude that had it not been for the snafu with the CIA guy not having the credit card, CIA would have not been set back to last and would have therefore made it to the finals. Now, given the teams that are left, there's a chance for Air Force to screw up one episode (like the one in England) and cause one of the undeserving teams to win. What makes the other two teams "undeserving?" Whether it's been team CIA that they teamed up with 3 times or the cab they followed to the Susan B. Anthony statue, the Southie's have not forged their own trail at all. Even in Boston (their home town) they had to have help finding the schoolhouse they were looking for and Air Force still beat them there. They have managed to stay in due to the overall weakness of the teams. Consider that the Browns and the Hanlons were some of the most poorly suited reality teams ever cast in any show, the grad students and Miss USA were all girls meaning that the Southies would have an edge over them in phycical tasks (such as climbing that mountain last week) and then there was the preacher family Fogals with perma-whine daughter. Did anyone really think they would make the finals? They were almost guaranteed to luck into the finals if someone screwed up in a late episode because they were practically automatic to be lurking in the top 4 or 5 with the competition that they had. Team "Genius" is anything but. So they solved the candle clue in the English church fast. That's about it. They were on the same wild goose chase at that castle in France with Southies and CIA last week. Yes, they found the "secret" room behind the giant portrait tonight but the Southie's and Air Force didn't actually need to find it having already solved the clue. Besides, "finding" the room was less about solving any clue or figuring anything out and more about one of them not being able to keep his hands off stuff...even in a museum...and he as much as said so on the show. As it stands, because of the weak competition and CIA's screw up tonight, there are 2 teams that don't deserve the win or the money who could end up getting it simply by virtue of the fact that they are in the finals. Air Force has been great but they haven't placed first every round. However, the Southie's and Team "Genius" have not placed first at all. In fact, "Genius" has placed next to last three (3) times (first episode, episode they had to dig, and last night). In fact, in the digging episode, they wouldn't have had the Browns to be around for elimination that week had it not been for the fact that the Browns were reinstated after the grad student girl hurt her leg. That means that without either of them being an outstanding team (and one of them being downright below average), all that has to happen for one of them to "win" is for Air Force to screw up or have misfortune befall them. In my opinion, someone else screwing up or experiencing bad luck is not deserving of winning a million bucks. And this late in the game, it's too late for either the Southie's or Team "Genius" to deserve it by way of earning it through outstanding play. So, either way, it's undeserved. Better casting would have prevented undeserving teams from being one other team's screw up away from making this whole experiment end with a bad taste. I sure hope Air Force wins.

Unworthy winners are an unfortunate fact of reality TV. How many times in Survivor does the strongest player get voted off? Almost every time. How many times does the strongest team win TAR? Very rarely, there's always one bad break or screwup that knocks them out.Just a few unworthy reality winners: Survivor Vecepia Sandra Brian Amazing Race Flo Kim Freddy & Kendra Air Force = best team. Winners? We'll see.

Can I say Bullocks.First, if Ex-CIA deserve to win, how come we see them make the mistakes that cause them to lose? There was not one snafu on thier part, there were three. (1) Credit Card (2) Not checking the Painting (3) Poor searching for names. The Ex-CIA messed themselves up, there was no-one with them to mislead them, thier errors were thier own. What type of complaint is it that the Southie Boys need help in thier home town? How many times on TAR have we seen teams lose because they don't ask for directions in thier home town, thinking they know it all? If they asked then they are smarter than a lot of other teams out there that did not and that puts them on my list of deserving winners. Why comment that Miss USA could not meet the physical tasks? That is not what killed them, they were in second place when they ended up stump by a mental task. So you are busy analazing a team about a feature that had nothing to do with thier performance in the show. And as for the Grad Students, they are doing great with the physical tasks we saw them do. The accident they had could had occurred to any team and was of a type of injury that would disable anyone, male or female. It is not clear to me that they would had any problem doing any of the following physical tasks we saw later in the show. I don't see how you came up with un-deserving for thier team either. Browns, too fat - true - but nice people all the same. Harlons, too stupid - I can't see it being just editting. Fogals, too aggressive - they attacked the other teams way too early in the race. Not nice people. UnderGrads - too easyly lead astay. This team I do not think would make it even if the Geniuses had not messed them up. -------------------------------------------------------------- Sorry, good teams don't let bad teams cost them the game. When ever a bad team was costing another team it position, it was up to the affected team to see it and put the pressure on. If they don't that is thier own fault.

What I said was that the Southie's would have a built in advantage over the grad students and Team USA in physical tasks. Making that general statement doesn't mean that is how I predicted they would end up being eliminated. In fact, when I made that statement, both of their elimination episodes had already occured so obviously I was NOT saying that their physical disadvantage to Southie's is what eliminated them. However, if the general physical advantages were not true, why would Team USA not have climbed the mountain with the boys instead of driving 3 hours round trip to get the clue from the statue. That put them in last place. They ended up getting back in second after the 9 knuckleheads left the castle not having found the messages behind the rocks in the wall and Miss USA did. But that doesn't negate the fact that they nonetheless avoided the physical task on purpose. A 10 hours swamp walk, 5 hours of digging up a "death mask", a cliff climb, and walking the side of a 22nd floor ledge are all more physical tasks than most reality shows have. Therefore, it can be argued that three 25 year old guys (who unlike the "dummies" are in good shape) were at an advantage going into those tasks. I don't know why people think it's somehow politically correct to deny that reality. Again, that disadvantage didn't end up being exactly what costs them the game but it was a disadvantage during those physical tasks that they had to work around.

The Grads and Team USA were definitely at a disadvantage during some of the tasks. I don't think it's politically incorrect to say that men would typically have an advantage over women in matters such as ditch digging. As for trudging through a swamp or rowing a few miles, it's a matter of fitness more than strength. I think the mental part of TH offers teams like Miss USA, the Fogals or Geniuses to make up some of the slack, unless the really fit teams, like ExAir Force, are also really smart. In any case, this contest challenges their brains and fitness, which I don't think we see enough of on TAR and Survivor. That's what I love about this show - it's less about backstabbing and conniving and more about being fit and smart.
