"UConn's winning streak."
Perspective #1: It's an incredible achievement. Winning 89 games in a row in any sport is bordering on impossible -- but with college sports and the inevitable athlete turnover? Sure, UComn has the recruiting edge for recharging those player exits to a degree normally only seen with the discrete passing-over of giant money bundles, but we're still talking about an incredible feat.

Perspective #2: Why watch women's college basketball for more than a few minutes at a time? Which teams are advancing? Are there any athletes ready to make their skills known? Can a Cinderella tourney run be on the horizon? It doesn't matter: UConn wins. See you next year and we'll do it again.

This winning streak is amazing. And kind of boring.

The problem with the UConn streak: Challengers are few and far between. A statistic I heard on ESPN Radio: Something like 53 of their 89 wins were by 30 points or more. Their first 77 wins were all by double digits, and their first real challenge was the 2010 title game - in which they still had a 30-6 run. This season? One real challenge - and the second serious challenge of their streak, and that was Baylor.

If a few teams had a real shot at UConn, this might be more impressive. Sadly, they do not. We're stuck with the one-woman show known as Baylor and the distant second Stanford. That's it.

It doesn't help that the Lady Vols refuse to schedule UConn and vice versa due to some tiff they've had a few years ago... so the only chance they may possibly have at each other is in the Tournament...

UConn has a new streak - 1 loss - thanks to Stanford.

Interestingly Stanford was the last team to beat them (on April 6, 2008).

On Jan 5 Villanova will face a UConn team that will be very angry about having lost.

998 days! Imagine that, some players on the UConn team had never experienced a single collegiate game loss until this.
