"Doc throws 2nd ever post-season NO-HITTER"
No-hitter for Doc Halladay in his first playoff game!

So, still think that Doc would falter in a pressure situation, AyaK?

Having watched and cheered for him in Toronto, I am very happy for him in his first playoff game. (no-hitter on the pitching side, and 1H and 1RBI with the bat - not bad!)

But what is AyaK was right, and this was Doc under pressure? Maybe he will relax next time and go perfect!!

I think that shows what a great guy he was in Toronto. Front page of the Toronto paper was celebrating Doc, and I can assure you most people are cheering for him to succeed.

Things weren't like that for Robbie Alomar, who was also very much loved when he was in Toronto, but not-so-much when he left.

Yep, and Doc's one of the classiest athletes we've ever had in Toronto. He's quite well known for his philanthropy and does it in the quietest possible manner. His work ethic is second to none, he doesn't whine or bitch.

And when he was traded to Philly, he took the time and expense to take out a full-page ad to thank the people of Toronto for treating him well and supporting him & his wife during their time here. Name me another athlete who would do such a thing.

And yes, Robbie Alomar took a big hit when he spat on the umpire and another good example is Roger Clemens - he was well-liked here in Toronto when he won back-to-back Cy Youngs, but when it got out about his motivations and dealings combined with his disdain for the fans, boy you never saw a whole city turn on any athlete so fast! To this day, I don't think there's a more reviled athlete in Toronto than Mr. Clemens.

I have friends that might disagree with that statement Pepe. They would cite Vince Carter as well as Matts Sundin as equally revilied.

The challenge might be to find a city Clemens played in where he isn't reviled.

If he goes into the Hall, he may wind up doing so with a blank cap.

All I can say about Halladay's performance this entire year is, "Wow."

Edson Volquez's meltdown in the first two innings took all the pressure off him yesterday, but it was still a great performance -- in fact, much better than Don Larson's, because Halladay wasn't getting a strike zone the size of a refrigerator.

Love the Doc. I have owned him in both of my modern Diamond Mind leagues for years.

And he has always been well-prepared when he takes the field, so I didn't doubt he would do well in the playoffs.

But I didn't expect this. Good for him. He's always been classy and I am happy that he did it.

Not to take anything away from Halladay - he was great, too. But I actually think the kid on the Giants team was better with his debut.

Why? Because he had 14 KO's to Halladay's 8. Which means Lincecum himself beat 6 more batters where Halladay needed help from the field to get those outs. That's the equivalent of two whole innings worth of batters that the Giants pitcher got out by himself. Just sayin', YMMV.

Take a look at Halladay's performance over on MLB.com if you can. Most of the outs put into play were weak grounders or pop-ups, plus a couple of fly balls that were right at outfielders. The defense didn't have a whole lot of work to do other than on one grounder and one fly to right, right up until the catcher had to make the most difficult play of the game on a five-foot dribbler in front of home plate to end the game.

Lincecum had a smacktabulous performance as well, even if he did give up two well-hit doubles. We shouldn't take anything away from either Doc or Lincecum - the difference, of course, is that a no-hitter in the post-season trumps just about everything else, and Doc did it against the team that had the highest batting average, most HRs and most runs scored in the National League this season.

ETA... One columnist's view: "He wasn't Halladay-dominant"

I had him in my fantasy league and still ended up at the bottom of the standings.

(OK, I managed to pull up to 4th in the bracket section...)

Wasn't last year torture enough? This year they throw in the possibility of the Braves winning and make Bruce miss that fly ball. All the Met's bitterest rivals are still in this.

Go Rangers.
