PLEASE NOTE: The Reality TV World Message Boards are filled with desperate attention-seekers pretending to be one big happy PG/PG13-rated family. Don't be fooled. Trying to get everyone to agree with you is like herding cats, but intolerance for other viewpoints is NOT welcome and respect for other posters IS required at all times. Jump in and play, and you'll soon find out how easy it is to fit in, but save your drama for your mama. All members are encouraged to read the complete guidelines. As entertainment critic Roger Ebert once said, "If you disagree with something I write, tell me so, argue with me, correct me--but don't tell me to shut up. That's not the American way."

I loved him in Best Little Whorehouse in Texas when he "danced a little sidestep."

2. "RE: RIP"
I had an embarrassing/funny encounter with Charles Durning back in the late 1970's when I worked in a record store near Rockefeller Center. A lot of celebs and actors used to come in, and he came in one day. He asked me for help finding something, and since I recognized him, I said "You're Charles Durning, the actor." He seemed really pleased -- it probably didn't happen often back then -- and asked me what I'd seen him in.

Well, I couldn't think of a single thing that I'd seen him in. So he started to rattle off things he'd done. "Did you see me in _____?" "Uh, no I never saw that, sorry." "What about _________." "Nope, I missed that too." I felt bad that I couldn't come up with anything. By that time I'd gotten him the album he wanted so there was no reason for him not to leave, but he kept following me around naming more titles of plays and movies. I was actually getting sort of annoyed so finally I just said, " Oh, yeah, it was that!" when he mentioned yet something else I hadn' t seen. LOL at remembering that.

R.i.p. Mr. Durning.

3. "RE: RIP"

LOS ANGELES (AP) — Charles Durning grew up in poverty, lost five of his nine siblings to disease, barely lived through D-Day and was taken prisoner at the Battle of the Bulge. *wow*

His hard life and wartime trauma provided the basis for a prolific 50-year career as a consummate Oscar-nominated character actor, playing everyone from a Nazi colonel to the pope to Dustin Hoffman's would-be suitor in "Tootsie." *loved that one*

Durning and his first wife had three children before divorcing in 1972. In 1974, he married his high school sweetheart, Mary Ann Amelio. *I like this kind of story; so romantic*

I liked him in "O Brother, Where Art Thou?"

My favorite performance by Charles Durning was when he guest stared on NCIS playing the role of a Medal of Honor winner from WW2 who turned himself in to NCIS because he had needed to hit one of his own men with his pistol to silence him from giving away their position to the enemy during a battle. The soldier died. Having been in the military myself, I felt a special feeling when the two soldiers who had come to take him into custody noticed the MOH ribbon around his neck and saluted him. Charles just gave them a small nod and smile after they saluted.

He should have won an Emmy for that one. Call of Silence

(There is, in fact, no requirement that MoH recipients be saluted, which of course doesn't affect whether or not it is a tradition.)

When I was in the Air Force during the Viet Nam War, we were always told that if the soldier wears the button, he was to be saluted. I have only once in my life as a soldier ever had the honor of saluting a Medal of Honor recepient. It was an honor for me to acknowledge him. I remember the pride I felt at that time.
