PLEASE NOTE: The Reality TV World Message Boards are filled with desperate
attention-seekers pretending to be one big happy PG/PG13-rated family. Don't
be fooled. Trying to get everyone to agree with you is like herding cats,
but intolerance for other viewpoints is NOT welcome and respect for other
posters IS required at all times. Jump in and play, and you'll soon find out
how easy it is to fit in, but save your drama for your mama. All members are
encouraged to read the
complete guidelines.

Ebert once said, "If you disagree with something I write, tell me so, argue
with me, correct me--but don't tell me to shut up. That's not the American way."

I think he was referring to hybrid power, not hybrid genes.

Yes, true. There's the positive side to it and the negative side to it. Just don't connect the two!

Nope. Someone showed me the math one time a few years ago and he (a car salesman) showed me that based on driving out here in the vast plains and very short in town commutes that gas needs to be about $5/gallon for one of these to save money.

You know, a car like that (a hybrid) could be a good deal for you.Putting aside questions involving price, size, comfort, maintenance expense (batteries) and aesthetics which you would have to judge for yourself, it could be a decent option for an everyday drive to work car. Depending on how much local and long distance driving you do, I can see it saving you upwards of 80% of your transportation related gasoline costs. If you recharge at home some of that savings will be spent on the home electric bill, but you could bring a cord to work and can plug into a company outlet. Or, if you can park in the open, take a solar charger with you to work (is such a thing available?). You would need to invest in a heavy duty alloy steel lock and chain. It would have to be a hybrid, I think, to allow for cloudy days. But hey, you live in LA, right?

Oooh oooh I know this one! I've been the owner of a Toyota Prius since 2009. I bought a used 2007 model with 45k miles on it, and now I'm up to 121k. I absolutely love it. Fuel economy: I do 90% of my driving in-city and average about 45-50 miles to the gallon, with the average fill-up costing $32 and running me just under 500 miles. Winter driving: It's not fantastic in the snow..I tend to drift a bit more than I did with the Corolla I had before this, but it's not bad enough to keep me from working when it snows, and I travel house to house all day. Battery: The Prius uses two...the hybrid battery and a traditional car battery. I had to replace the traditional battery last year, but the Prius battery still looks strong. Roominess: Darn sight better than the Corolla. My teenage boys don't complain about sitting in the back. Maintenance: Same as a fuel only vehicle, no additional expenses. And best of all, my company reimburses me for mileage. That check covers all of the gas and the payment each month, with a little left over for me. Every time the odometer clicks, I hear money. Just back home with the new baby: 2013 Ford C-Max hybrid. Just a thought on the Prius V Two -- The "V" is pronounced "vee", not a Roman Numeral 5 -- so we've got a car with the same name as a WWII weapon of mass destruction. Gotta wonder if the folks over at Toyota did their homework. Thanks for the help!
