1. "RE: Fork or spoon?" |
Rice: Spoon. In SE Asia, the right hand (this is more common than most people think). Also chopsticks. Using a spoon in the right hand with the assistance of a fork in the left hand is also common if using utensils there.Peas: Fork, at home sometimes spoon. Kernel corn: Fork, at home sometimes spoon. Mashed potatoes: Fork, but at home might polish off the last bit of it and the gravy with a spoon. Macaroni & cheese: Fork. If out of a microwave container, a spoon to polish it off. Baked potato: Fork. Ice cream: Spoon. Gelatin: Spoon. Cake Normal cake, fork. Ice cream cake, spoon.

Great now I can't get this out of my head.I eat my peas with honey, I've done so all my life. It makes them taste quite funny, But it keeps them on my knife. Generally eat most meals with a fork and knife and spoons are for soup, cereal and deserts that can't be forked. Rice: Fork or chopsticks if at a Chinese Restaurant Peas: Fork Kernel Corn: Fork Mashed Potatoes: Fork Mac and Cheese: Fork Baked Potato: Fork Ice Cream: Spoon Gelatin: Spoon Cake: Fork Usually if I need a pusher I use the knife rather than a spoon. Although I will eat most of these with the other utensil if I need to run the dishwasher and am out of one or the other.

Rice - fork, but for my youngest (age 7) we still give him a spoon.Peas - fork, but only because the rest of the meal would likely be fork. Kernel corn - ditto Mashed potatoes - fork Macaroni & cheese - spoon. My family use forks Baked potato - fork Ice cream - how could this be anything but spoon? Gelatin - spoon Cake - fork (and it is a real conundrum when the cake has ice cream on top!)

I often use a fork to eat ice cream - the key is to eat it while it's still solidly frozen! There might be bits of leftover liquid by the time I'm done but can use the fork to push it to the edge to be slurped up or have something handy to soak it up.

The ones I don't understand are the sporks with a knife along the handle. Not a sharp knife, but a normal utensil knife, which to me is useless without a separate fork.

But you'd have to waste a napkin to clean off the knife part once you've used it to cut or spread something. Otherwise you're just holding a greasy handle.

I think it's pretty obvious what "Party" is euphemistic for in England. The implement in question probably has a little vibration device in it.

Rice - usually a forkPeas - spoon (if I have them in their own little bowl...) Kernel corn - spoon Mashed potatoes - fork Macaroni & cheese - fork Baked potato - fork Ice cream - spoon, then tongue Gelatin - spoon Cake - cake (You reminded of my friend's story of when he was six years old and his father told him "you need to eat every carrot and pea on your plate." which he did (as only a six-year-old could...)

>Rice: whatever's handy > >Peas: spoon (cos peas gotsa have butter, mmm peas n butter) > >Kernel corn: spoon (once again, I mean corn without butter, who does that? anything with butter demands spoon. Except..) > >Mashed potatoes: no fair! with butter or gravy, spoon of course. Cheesy mashed potatoes, eh who cares, go fer it. > >Macaroni & cheese: depends on stickiness of cheese. Good sticky cheese, doesn't matter. Lame cheese, skip it, not worth the bother. > >Baked potato: fork, always a fork, and a knife. > >Ice cream: tongue. > >Gelatin: blech. > >Cake: depends on the icing; fork for good buttercream icing, skip it altogether for horrible marshmallow icing that makes me want to puke.

See most of my fork foods I am eating with something else I do want to spear and I don't usually put the fork down and then pick the spoon up, I'll just scoop on the fork as best it can. Then again I often like to eat continental rather than American because put the fork down, put the knife down, pick the fork up with the other hand, take a bite, put the fork down, pick the knife up, pick the fork up with the other hand, cut, repeat just seems like a lot of work for no good reason. But then again I usually got stuck next to the left handed brother so being able to use a fork with the left hand just saved a lot of getting elbowed as well.

Same, but I guess my reasons are mostly cultural. Nobody in the Philippines uses a knife and fork to eat anything, except when eating at a fancy restaurant.

Which would you use for: Rice Fingers, like they do in the mysterious east. Although this tends to gross out the other people at the buffet. Peas Peas are not food. They are projectiles. Like boogers. And really, who can tell them apart? Kernel corn Mashed potatoes The two items above are to be mixed together and eaten simultaneously - with a spoon. Deviation from this practice will subject the offender to a glass of cold water poured out over their head. Macaroni & cheese Fork. Those are most useful when fending off any little kids that are trying to eat the delicious manna from heaven. Baked potato I suspect that you eat baked potatoes with a spoon. FYI - that is disgustingly abnormal. What are you, Polish? Ice cream Ice cream is of the devil. Never, ever eat iced creamery of any type. It's in the Bible and everything. Gelatin Also not food. Any compound that can act as a serious adhesive when it dries should not be ingested. Cake That's it, now I've gone and thought about the demise of Hostess and all of their saturated fatty goodness. Thanks, estee, you've made me weepy.
Typical Zipperhead post: I don't know whether to award him the thread or just kill him. - Estee
