Looks like a whole lotta east coast is under a tornado watch! You just feel it in the air-so humid, UGH. The usual Saturday routine has been interrupted due to weather. Here's some footage from earlier today where a tornado touched down at my sister's beach club. Looks like some roofs came off and a couple of lights at the softball field popped: http://www.weather.com/weather/videos/news-41/top-stories-169/tornado-in-queens-ny-30545 How's the weather by you? What do you do to prepare when something like this is going on? I have a radio and flashlight ready to go and the cellphone is all charged up. Am I missing anything?

I rained pretty hard for a few moments, and under thunderstorm warning until 10 pm.

"Kirk is not expected to Live Long and Prosper" -- Of course not -- he's ruled by illogical human emotions.

A bit of thunder and warnings on and off, but nothing seemed serious around here.

Still waiting for the storm to hit up here in Boston. It's windy and a little rainy. My old neighborhood lost power for a half hour but fortunately did not have the same bad luck as after Hurricane Irene and the Snowtober storm (where we were without power and water for 8 days and 7 days respectively.) You asked what to do to prepare. This list is really for a several day long power outage. I made a list after the hurricane which I unfortunately/luckily had to refer to again in October!. Most people probably don't have the trifecta of septic, well water and no natural or propane gas, but that's what I had (or rather didn't have!) If you have no power Make sure you have a full tank of gas in car so you can charge all computers and phones (my town was without power for 2-1/2 days after the hurricane. If there is no electricity, you can't buy gas. It's like REVOLUTION! ) AA and D batteries for flashlight and camping lantern Candles Battery run votive for night light Make ice, separate perishables from non and put in cooler If you have well water that runs by electricity Fill water bottles and jugs for drinking water Basin of water in bathroom to rinse hands Fill garbage can and buckets with hose and put in garage (to flush toilets) Handiwipes and Purell Facial cleaning wipes Wash fruit and veggies If your stove is run by electricity, hard boil some eggs and cook anything that you might be able to eat cold. Guess what? Our new house in Boston in on sewer, has town water and we have a propane fired cooktop! It was either that or install a generator. 15 days living like a modern day pioneer woman was enough! Hope everyone gets through this storm okay!!
