PLEASE NOTE: The Reality TV World Message Boards are filled with desperate
attention-seekers pretending to be one big happy PG/PG13-rated family. Don't
be fooled. Trying to get everyone to agree with you is like herding cats,
but intolerance for other viewpoints is NOT welcome and respect for other
posters IS required at all times. Jump in and play, and you'll soon find out
how easy it is to fit in, but save your drama for your mama. All members are
encouraged to read the
complete guidelines.
As entertainment critic Roger
Ebert once said, "If you disagree with something I write, tell me so, argue
with me, correct me--but don't tell me to shut up. That's not the American way."

Or can you buy your own and use it with the provider?Local Cable seems to only have slightly broken DVRs. Swaping them out doesn't seem to make any difference. Does the equipment that Dish or other satellite TV come with actually work, or do they only have broken, glitchy ones with f'ed up problems. Because at least with Cable I can go to the store on every day off I have and swap the thing out. I dunno if I'd like having to deal with someone having to come out to the house every week until I get lucky. Besides at least doing the drop off myself thing I can make sure I have whatever shows I want watched taken care of at the time I want. Not on someone else's schedule. Oh, and I've tried picking one up from another town as they are open on Sat. there. Still didn't help.

5. "RE: DVR from companies" |
I switched to Dish a little less than two years ago, and despite some complaints about the company itself, the quality of the DVR is stellar, no complaints about that. It does take a learning curve to get the hang of it, and heaven knows they dump a lot of religeous and sales stations your way, you have to block them all out on every TV if you don't want the clutter.Still, you can block out the nonsense, which is wonderful. Much as I used to enjoy pointing and laughing at the Faux News and MSNBC idiots, I'm much happier now having them blocked, though I do miss Maddow and O'Reilly at times. Still have the VCRs hooked up though I can't record anything on them now unless I convert to hi-def receiver/boxes. Still useful for playing my collection of tapes, of course. Though both kids are now grown and in college, got a lot of Disney on videotape, not to mention the entire series of classic Trek. Anyway, the DVR is great. HD stuff eats more memory than other stuff, from their ads though now it seems their current DVRs come packed with more memory than mine has. WOO! I don't really believe that hype but it speaks to their commitment to quality DVR. The biggest drawback of satellite over cable, bad weather can interrupt service on satellite more easily than on cable. And don't believe the installer guys when you ask them anything, they don't really know.
