LAST EDITED ON 06-18-03 AT 11:18 PM (EST)Coming into the show tonight, I like Serena, Harlemm, and I am absolutely in love with Jamisen Tiangco. I guess I'm going to end up kind of biased when reviewing her.
This is a live review while watching my tape of "Fame"... feel free to fast forward to see my final postings.
Raymond Lee... eh... I'd hope he'd do better, but I think he might be out of his league.
As much as I love Jamisen, she spent the entire time imitating and channeling Janet Jackson. It actually sounded like a lipsync. She sounded exhausted near the end of the performance. Still lots of love for Jamisen, the dancing was great, but I don't know about that performance.
One thing with these bios are just all these stupid sob stories... let's vote for Moy not because she has a nice voice, but because she has financial problems at home. Enough with the sob stories.
Moy (Eve) sounds nasally on some of her pitches. When she tries to hit the higher notes, she's either too whispy or nasally. Moy was okay, but she needs a consistency that I didn't see.
Johnny Wright: "You did this wrong... You did this wrong... Overall it was a decent performance."
So far, I think these performers are trying to hard to sound like the original artists and aren't really showing any personality in their performances.
Brandon O'Neal did pretty good. He's not overdoing anything, and he's got a Charles Grigsby essense about him, but the Josh Gracin/Clay Aiken faces when he sings. I liked it.
Poor Carnie has to step over all her comments because she's scared of Debbie jumping out and cutting her.
Allyson Arena sounds and looks like Bernadette Peters, it's bizarre. I didn't like her voice with the song though. Her voice has a really weird pitch to it, there's a forum for it, but I don't think a Celine Dion ballad fits it. Hmm... I'd say she did okay, it was unique, but I don't think she should do ballads anymore, she doesn't have that chesty voice that molds well to the power ballads.
Justin Jacoby (Eminem) definitely makes himself stand out and he's awesome, but he channels Eminem a bit too much, nonetheless, he's AWESOME, and I'd LOVE to see him go far in this competition.
SHUT UP DEBBIE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Debbie loves Johnny because he's complimenting EVERYBODY.
Alex is showing a lot of cleave in the "Fame" number.
"Get Here"!!!!, I LOVE that song, and Harlemm Lee rocks... sounds like a good combo. HARLEMM RULES!. His opening into the song, and his little riffs throughout the song are impeccable and it adds SO MUCH to the performance. He made the song his own, and put in a lot of his own fun nuances. HARLEMM, best performance so far. There's a reason I LOVE this guy!
Thanks Debbie for calling him out like that. It was meant to be inspirational, but way to call him out like that. Debbie Allen, you're digging a hole...
Lauren Hildebrandt, great opening. I'm feeling her groove, and I do like her voice. (I don't think I've had this much positive stuff to say about "Fame"... and I turning over that new leaf?) Good performance, tough to follow up Harlemm, nothing spectacular, but really good.
Garry Adams, okay. That's all. I don't really have too much to say.
I don't like "Proud Mary", had a bad experience... so I'm always iffy when somebody sings it, like when Trenyce sang it. I'm going to say the same thing I said about Shannon, I think most of her stuff is the girations and her look. Her singing is pretty average.
Wah...Wah...Wah...These little bio snippets...::sigh::
Alex is still showing a lot of cleave. LoL. I don't know how I feel about this performance. He definitely has a nice voice, but I thought the performance was kind of boring. But AWESOME voice nonetheless.
Serena Henry, the last of my three. Well she definitely has the energy. I'm still a fan of hers, but I think since her first audition, I'm looking for something more and she's been letting me down since that first audition, she's still very talented, but there might be a reason why she's a lounge singer. I think the reason I thought the performance was kind of okay was the overly done riffs.
(----FAST FORWARD ENDS HERE----)
