"Erin needed the money... to help her parents???"
The one thing that came across really insincere for me was Erin's claim that she needed the money for her parents. For those not in the know, Erin is the youngest daughter of former San Francisco 49'ers quarterback John Brodie.

Now, I know that John played in the 50's and 60's and retired in 1973 before the days of "huge" NFL salaries, but in 1967 he DID sign a 4 year, $827,000 contract that made him the highest paid player in the game. After he retired he was employed as a television football analyst, played on the PGA Senior Tour for a bit, and also telecast PGA events. And in earlier articles for the show I read about Erin mentioning how her parents moved to someplace south of SF because there are better golf courses there and that's what her Dad is all about nowadays.

...now we're supposed to believe that she took the money to help her parents out??? What, is her Dad having problems paying the greens fees on his own?

Exactly... for Erin to be claiming she needs the money to help her parents -- unless one of them is, unknown to the public, facing some huge incredible stack of medical bills of some sort that's wiped out the family fortune -- a very public lie... a lie that goes a long way toward painting her as the very golddigger she fears she is going to be seen as.

First of all, let's realize one thing: Erin is a DAW's DAW.

Erin gave away a sure $1,000,000 (over 40 years notwithstanding) to be on this show again. Okay, so the prize doubles, and more likely the guy will pick her over the green dollar bills, but still... it's obvious she wanted to be on television again, even on THIS show!

So Erin's talking about helping out the family... pure talk for the TV camera.

In fact, I've been wondering why a daughter of John Brodie even feels the need to DO shows like these. It can only be the attention, the cameras, the sure-to-be name recognition.

I thought it was extremely funny that when she told Rob who her Dad was on when they were on their first solo date, Rob seemed to have no clue who her Dad was or even acknowledge it...

I thought that too Webby.....she even went as far as too say "You've probably never heard of him"......WHAT?

Any red blooded American guy would have at least heard of John Brodie!

Agree with you, Webby. Also, the name of John Brodie will be familiar to older folks like myself (older meaning thirties or more), who remember him from his football days. And a few of us golf afficianados will have heard of him from his golfing.

But I can understand that the younger generation, such as Rob, wouldn't be as familiar with John Brodie.

I agree with you Dawg (as I posted on the other thread) except for one thing.

and more likely the guy will pick her over the green dollar bills

WHY? Why is it more likely that a guy would pick her over the money. I think the choice was a slam dunk, no brainer for everyone except Paige on the first go round. If anything, I'd think the guys would be less romantic/naive than Paige was. I'd also be willing to bet that the guys will be cast with that very thing in mind.

It will be fun to watch her try though. I think Erin is very attractive, but she really doesn't say a whole lot. She mostly responds with a crooked smirk and a quick "thanks", or "I know". Hopefully, she won't have the same speech writer that Rob did. UGH!

LAST EDITED ON 07-08-03 AT 01:33 PM (EST)

WHY? Why is it more likely that a guy would pick her over the money.

Several reasons. Erin is a gorgeous woman, and could wow a guy, and the chance to be with her might overwhelm him.

Also, guys tend to think with the wrong head at times, if ya know what I mean. Hell, I've seen guys throw away money, marriages, careers, just to get into a girl's pants. So would they pick the girl over an annuitized 1 million? Very possibly yes.

Not to mention that one of them might just figure out that he and Erin might win money if he chooses her (correct me if I'm wrong, but I think Paige had that idea last night, that there would still be money in it if she picked Rob instead of the cool million). Again, he might just make that "gamble".

Also, Erin knows the whole situation, and can get her info and make her choices with that $2M in mind. She definitely has HER goal set, as well.

So unless Erin acts like a total lush fool (like Rob did), I can easily see the winning guy picking her over the money.

Keep in mind that a couple of these guys might already be pretty well off... to the point where the idea of throwing away $25k a year might not seem like that big a loss them. Remember... even Mr. Personality found a millionaire for it's cast...

BTW. I just learned through a friend of mine that knows her. She is now dating the producer of the show. Talk about BS. She is a gold digger and full of it. I was not crazy about Paige either but then again, Rob Campos was kind of lost for words considering he is a lawyer. Well, now an unemployed lawyer. I think he got the shaft overall and I think he should have read his contract a bit better. Maybe he should have sought counsel on it. LOL.

If you were really in the know, you would know that Erin's father had a severe stroke a few years ago and is in a full care facility in Texas because he is no longer able to speak. I doubt he is playing much golf these days. John's stroke has been devestating to their family not only emotionally, but also financially. So maybe you should get your facts straight before passing judgement someone you don't even know.

If her family was so financially devasted, why would she risk her winnings? Even if she took the lump sum payout it would still be about $250,000.

Humm... here's a story from 2002 that states he's recovering in California -- how recently did he supposedly take such a turn for the worse and get moved to Texas?

http://www.sf49ers.com/community/DisplayCommunity.asp?newsID=633

Read this story on the man's background in his PGA winnings and extremely comfortable financial status (after being a star NFL QB for 17 years, he earned another $800,000+ on the PGA Tour alone -- and brags that he even had to take a pay cut when he quit NBC to join the PGA Tour)

http://www.golfweb.com/u/ce/multi/0,1977,3145813,00.html

Here's his celebrity tournment winnings where he's earned another $300k+

http://www.cptgolf.com/Statistics/winningsall.asp

And for what it's worth, they show him on the 2003 roster:

http://www.cptgolf.com/players/rosterclass.asp?class=football

And Chris Chandler, another (oft-injured) NFL QB who's earned tens of millions of dollars his own is one of Brodie's son-in-law's:

http://www.sportingnews.com/nfl/articles/20010817/336769.html

...now try and tell me that with a straight face that this family needs the money -- if there's any extended family out there that should be able to financally withstand a stroke (one that from all the available reports he was well on the way to recovering from) this would have to be one of them.

And if she needs the money so bad, why risk losing it all to go back? Sorry, but the "facts" that are public just don't fit with her stated reasons for needing the money. Erin has to whore herself out on national TV to help her Dad out while her sister Diane is married to a star NFL QB that's earned tens of millions of dollars? What's wrong with that picture...

LAST EDITED ON 07-10-03 AT 07:09 PM (EST)

Not only is DiDi married to Chris Chandler, who led the Atlanta Falcons to the Super Bowl despite his history of injuries, but Brodie's oldest daughter Kelly is married to tennis coach Larry Stefanski, who used to coach world #1s John McEnroe, Yevgeny Kafelnikov and Marcelos Rios, as well as Tim Henman, Sebastien Grosjean, etc.

Brodie was a Scientologist during the end of playing career and well into his broadcasting career (I believe he left the "church" in 1982), so at least some chunk of his money was ripped off by L.Ron's crooks, but all of his broadcasting money and pro-golf money (and he made a fortune in pro-ams and corporate events alone) came after that.

Financially needy? No way. But it's easy to understand the family pressure on Erin to "live up" to Kelly and DiDi, isn't it? Somehow, I don't think spending any more time with Rob "the Barfin' Rapist" Campos would help her in that regard.

Thanks for reminding me about Chris Chandler (Crystal Chandelier, we called him in Atlanta). Here I am, an Atlanta resident and a Falcon fan who was in the stadium for the Falcons' 1998 playoff win over the 49ers, and I forgot that Chandler was Brodie's son-in-law. Where IS my memory going in my old age?!?!?

19. "Erin's explanation"
Erin's explanation (from the nbc website) says she didn't mean they needed the money:

All through the show you talked about how the money would be great and you could help your family…so why choose to forego the million dollar prize in order to participate in For
Love or Money 2?
I don't have a good answer! I really don't. I've always lived life for the experience of it. Even if the money wasn't there in number one, I still would've known it wasn't a great fit between Rob and I. So, I don't really know if the money was as much of a driving factor as it appeared to be. I've always felt pretty secure that I was going to do well in whatever I do.
About helping out my parents…the thing with my family is that it's not that they necessarily need the money. It was more just like they've done everything for me my whole life and I would love to be able to pay them back for college, you know? And they would never expect it.
I think I just decided to do because I live my life for unique experiences and I had such an awesome time on the first one, I thought what a great opportunity to go through it on the other side.
