"The Curve Ball"
LAST EDITED ON 04-17-09 AT 12:51 PM (EST)

Mad props to MB and the editing of the last two episodes for the triple-pronged curveball they just threw at us. I was convinced from the end of the last episode to the 2nd vote for Sierra at TC that Coach was going home. The editing did a ell of job of Fairlplaying us. First they had the near-miss/opportunity-lost episode last week, which seemed to grant Brendan a reprieve. Then they started off this episode with Coach's story, a typical sign of imminent bootage. And lastly, they ended the confessional exchange before TC with Coach's "Dragonslayer" speech. Usually, he who talks last is he who walks. But not this time. I was probably as stunned as Sierra was.
There obviously is a lot more going on than what we were showed considering Erinn went along with Coach and Tyson's plan. Tyson's comment that bossing Sierra around for 3 days should be enough to lose her vote but gain everyone else's suggests she is more universally disliked than we have been shown. I still believe Stephen pulls the strings for JT and Taj, and he may have wisely realized that Brendan and JT were building a relationship that ultimately would make Stephen expendable. I think the whole key of seeing through the editing was Stephen and JT's conversation at the lake. Stephen said, "This might be our only chance to get him." JT followed by talking about how "he" was crazy and how "his stories are hard to believe." Clearly JT was talking about Coach, but why would now be their only chance to get Coach? It seems Stephen was likely talking about Brendan. It is possible they took JT's comments from earlier or later in that same conversation and put it right after Stephen's comments to cover up the fact that Stephen was talking about Brendan, who they were really targeting, not Coach.
The big loser in all this besides Sierra? JT. He doesn't know Brendan seemed serious about taking him to the end. Coach and Tyson will not have such a hang up.

It's funny how when it's a female doing all the
yak yak yak yak yak yak yak
they're ready to get of her real fast.
When it's a man? He can get away with running his mouth 24/7 and what? they don't get tired of all the carp Coach has been spouting?

Interesting. . .

Yeah, they did a good job with the editing, because I thought Coach's story was played out by now. That, and it didn't make sense to me to make a big deal about Brendan almost going home last week if he goes this week.

And, I assumed when michel said people were "drinking the Kool-Aid" last week about Brendan being voted out, I assumed there was some spoiler info about him lasting. Curse you, michel!

Hey! Seeing how poorly I'm doing in your TAR Casino game, I think I'm cursed enough already!

It seemed obvious that Brendan wouldn't be going home because everything had been said and done already. Where would the surprise be?

I guess we can be surprised even by what we expect if we think that by expecting it, we shouldn't expect it to happen.

I agree, last night's episode was very well presented.

Although I must admit I didn't seriously consider the Dragonslayer being slain. I thought for sure Brendan would play his HII and Sierra would be taking the walk. I was really psyched out when Jeff asked if anyone wanted to play the idol and you see Brendan reach down...then they show him taking a drink of water. Very slick move! At that point I knew Brendan was a goner.

I'm don't see Erinn voting with Tyson-Debbie-Coach that head-scratching. If she flips and it results in those three sitting on the Jury, she has NO prayer of winning. It makes more sense for her to do what she does best...be a tag-a-long. Anything else would suggest that she is proactive...is that possible?

As for Brendan promising JT a seat in the Finals...sorry, not buying that for a NY minute.

If Brendan thought he couldn't win because the other survivors knew he was a millionaire (did he?) he might have looked for the most likely winner. Like Sugar last year.

Agree Erinn probably had little choice. Would be interested if Jalapao (down 6 to 3 after last week) end up shredding the Tim's because of their divisions. Looks like Erinn's closest relationship is with JT and who does Sierra have? Previews made it appear she'll get little love from Tyson or Coach. Could a Tyson or Coach blindside be next?

Do think its possible if Tyson hadn't won the IC (say JT did) that Tyson would have been targeted due to his challenge ability and might have been voted out. Between Coach and Brendan makes sense to get rid of the bigger threat. Who wouldn't want to go to final TC with Coach?

7. "RE: The Curve Ball"
Could the comment that Jeff made that "Tyson hates everybody" have only been made to justify Tyson's comment about Sierra while Sierra isn't really liked by the rest of them?

Is Sierra still a target because they knew she and Brendan were close and without him she has nothing (or does she, Debbie has been shown comforting and hanging with her) and isn't much of a target making her the misdirection boot this week?

I still get the feeling that Taj's comment about letting "them" do their thing and we'll come in later" might not have been about the Exile alliance but about old Jalapao (her, Stephen & JT). If they enlist Sierra and maybe Erinn with them they could take out the rest of Timbira.

Iltarion, you may be correct that Stephen is calling the shots with Taj & JT. If so, him pulling in Sierra & Erinn to take out Coach and Tyson would work nicely. He may have to watch out for a woman alliance somewhere along the line but he could use that to vote out JT at F6. I think his and Taj's alliance is much stronger then it appears.

Those are good ideas, Suzzee, but you are asking Stephen to be more aggressive than he has shown so far. He has been more of a behind the scenes manipulator than someone recruiting alliances to swing the game. I don't see him making any in roads with Erinn or Sierra. He appears somewhat inept with women and is probably intimidated by them. He can handle Taj because she is older, married and has done most the work of their alliance.
