Keep in mind that this show appears to have been taped in early-to-mid November 2005 (based on botanical and meteorological clues). Dani (or Danielle, still can't tell them apart) asking another passenger for useful phrases. The flight arrives and teams have various success finding taxis and drivers who know where to go. D/L and Mojo share a taxi. D/D and E/J also share a taxi. Bj/Tyler first to arrive at Chaika Bassim. Roadblock; Who wants to take the plunge? One person puts on bathing suit and climbs to top of 10-meter board and jump into pool. Once having taken the plunge, swim across pool and dive to the bottom to retrieve the clue. F/B arrive 2nd, Barry diving. R/Y in 3rd, Yolanda diving although she can't swim. Tyler completes his dive. Clue: take a taxi 3 miles to Novodevichiy Monastery. Once there find Cathedral of the Virgin of Smolyenski where they will find next clue. L/M arrive in 4th place, Lake will dive. D/D (6th) and E/J (5th)arrive. Can't tell the Dani's apart, and can't tell E/J apart either to determine which is completing the task. Mojo in 7th place, Monica diving. D/L in 8th, Lori will dive. W/D arrive 9th, Wanda will dive. Ray dives but having trouble finding the clue. BJ/Tyler depart Chaika and find taxi to take them to Cathedral. Yolanda prepares to dive. She's scared witless but finally closes her eyes and jumps in. And comes up. And manages to swim and find the clue. (Yea!! for Yolanda) Lake dives 4th. E/J dives 5th. Dani(elle) dives and retrieves clue. E/J hold taxi for D/D. L/M depart for Cathedral. It's probably not a bad strategy to at least learn to sound out (and know how to write) the cyrillic alphabet before being a contestant in TAR--it could be helpful in case TAR goes to other countries too, like Bulgaria, Ukraine or even Mongolia. And a lot of Cyrillic letters are indeed different. The "P" sounds like an "R", the "H" sounds like an "N", the mirror-image "N" is actually a vowel, the "B" sounds like a "V", etc. But--it's something one with a decent short-term memory can learn in an hour or two. Scour - travel to theater and search through 1500 Russian nesting dolls to find one of 10 microscopic clues. BJ/T are scrubbing. F/B arrive at cathedral but driver takes wrong drive, R/Y arrive ahead of F/B. D/D realize they left their bag with the money and passports at Chaika. They leave the guys with the taxi and tell them to go on while they return to retrieve their bag. E/J looking. L/M also searching. L/M in 2nd place, they will scrub. E/J 3rd, they will scrub. F/B will scrub. R/Y in 5th, asking that driver take them to theater. Lake tells his driver to follow. E/J tell driver to take to whatever is closest. D/D find taxi to take them back to Chaika facility. Wanda, with a lot of support and encouragement, finally dives to retrieve the clue. They are departing as D/D arrive. They find their bag quickly and get back on the road. Mojo and D/L arrive at cathedral. Both teams decide to do trolley. BJ/Tyler are lost. F/B decide to change tasks to theater. BJ/Tyler decide to switch also. R/Y and L/M arrive at theater. R/Y start looking. E/J also searching. L/M complaining, it was all R/Y's idea (no, Lake told his driver to follow without knowing where they were going). W/D decide to scrub. D/D send their taxi driver away while they look for clue. In fact, if there is no bunching in the subsequent second episode they are a quite wonderful device. Unfortunately, as far as I can recall, there has never been a Super Leg that didn't feature bunching during its second half, which of course renders the first episode completely meaningless. Really, TAR producers, you can bunch the teams up again after the Super Leg, I swear. Your viewers just don't want to see pointless action. What exactly is so difficult to comprehend about this conundrum? I'm getting tired of defending the theoretical abstract perfect super leg when you idiots continually subject it to corrosive bunching. Can we get it right for once, please? Pretty please? If next week's episode doesn't feature any bunching, I'll get down on the ground and rabidly kiss Bertram Van Munster's feet. But, as God as my witness, I pinkie swear on my son's soul that if there is bunching next week, I'm getting in contact with Wes Craven and will get him to send the mutants from The Hills have Eyes on to TAR and have them violently bite off Phil's manboobs.
