As entertainment critic Roger
Ebert once said, "If you disagree with something I write, tell me so, argue
with me, correct me--but don't tell me to shut up. That's not the American way."
Day 17 of Survivor may not seem that long into the game to old-school Survivor players and purists, but in the new era of the show, that constitutes 65 percent of the entire 26-day season. Which means it’s only natural for the folks who have made it that far to take stock of how far they have come. And that is exactly what the players of Survivor 45 did in an exclusive deleted scene from this week's episode that did not make it to air.
“I've never been more scared of my life,” says Kendra McQuarrie while reflecting on that moment when the entire cast stepped onto a giant barge in the South Pacific to be welcomed by none other than Jeff Probst. “I was terrified,” concurs Katurah Topps.

While many in the cast fess up to be scared to the bejeezus at the start of the season, it’s most revealing to see how nervous people, seemingly now in complete control of the game, were in those first few moments.
“I can remember that first day in the barge,” says noted sleep-talker and Tribal Council metaphor-lover Drew Basile. “I can remember the heat and the nauseousness and then I just thinking that I wasn't cut out for this. And honestly, I didn't think I'd make it. And now we're on day 17. I have found a ton of faith in myself and my ability to overcome and adapt to be resilient. And you realize that: Oh, hey, you probably were a lot more adaptable than you thought.”
Clearly. While the scene does not provide much concrete strategic insight, it does reflect what actually happens during all that downtime on the beach — when players routinely look back on their journey and discuss other Survivor-related topics such as their favorite seasons, players, challenges, etc....
