Matt and Andrea started to buddy up, so Rob sent Matt to Redemption Island, but Matt refused to go away, winning 5 Redemption Island Duels... Rob had the HII, and kept the clues away. Rooster had the Zap HII, but his tribe was crumbling, sending Sarita to Redemption Island after they lost their tribal member lead, from a 9-7 initial lead... After we see the Zaps return from TC, we see them discuss the votes, with Rooster having been the other vote for David... At Redemption Island, Sarita starts to tell Matt about them being 'good people' on the tribe, and Matt's figuring that if this next duel is the last one before the merge (and possible Redemption), then this might be the time to abandon the Ome train, and join the Zaps...   Remove | Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top

"RE: Survivor 22 Ep8 ECST" They get news that they all report to the RI, no word on the merge, but Rob says we need to be safe and take all of our stuff....Phillip doesn't want to, but will, he's learned alot from Rob. Mike at Zap says if this is a merge he's ready to take on Rob....makes me think that Mike is going home tonight.... Matt has hurt his foot, Sarita thinks she's a worthy opponent....Tribes come to the RI arena where Jeff tells them that whoever wins this duel is back in the game... On RI, Rob says if Matt wins it's not good for me, he could be holding it against me so he could defect, that's what I would do.... Been in the challenge 15 minutes, they have to move down to next foothold, change in 15 seconds, challenge continues. Omes are cheering for Matt (Phillip), Steve for Sarita...Phillip give us some insight...talks about a samurai...facing difficult things, blah, blah, blah....talks for a long time, it's all up here and points to his head, keep your focus Matt....time to move to the third foothold....stuch here to the end of the challenge....Zaps are telling Sarita, "zen"....this is it, they are on an 1/8th of an inch....Matt readjusts, cramps....zap cheering for Sarita...Sarita finding a zone...Phil cheering on Matt, Sarita digging deep....she falls. Matt is winner, seizes the moment and reenters this game.... Sarita is bummed, thought she had it. Matt is back in the game. Congrats, 6 duels, 6 wins, he has a new buff for him , it's clean and a different color cause we are merged, the one tribe....hugs, Rooster and Matt, Glenn, Andrea and Matt hug, merge to a new beach. Beginning with next TC, we have a new RI, Matt you could be voted out again, what! give me a minute. "Ometepe, Day 19" Rob reads the TC, and it's another Duel... but this time EVERYONE'S TO ATTEND! They figure that it's time for the Merge, and Rob wants them to bring all their stuff... Phillip didn't want to, but eventually relents... Zaps also start carrying their stuff, also thinking it's a possible Merge... Matt had cut his foot since the last Duel, and he's hoping that it won't affect him... Winner of today's Duel will be Redeemed Rob confesses that he's hoping Matt doesn't come back, since he might defect because Rob sent him to Redemption Island personally... It's the infamous 'Chimney Sweep' endurance challenge: they use their arms to keep themselves in place as their feet are on small footholds... Ever 15 minutes, they go down to smaller footholds... After the first change, Jiffy asks Phillip about strategy and such, and he literally goes off on an approximately 15 minute rant about the Bushido code and all that... They're now down to the final possible foothold, approximately an 1/8" foothold, with no time limit... Matt seems to be struggling, while Sarita seems to be solid... but Sarita slips, and Matt is Redeemed! Sarita has to burn her buff as she exits stage left. Matt won his 6th Duel and Jeff gives him a new clean Yellow buff, because Drop your buffs, we are merged! They are heading to a new beach as a tribe of 12. Also, as of the next TC, Redemption Island starts up again! Which means that Matt can easily be sent right back to Redemption Island... "Merged Camp, Day 19" After arriving at camp, they have a gigunda Merge Feast waiting for them. Murlonio will be the new name of the tribe, after Rob sells them a bill of goods that the name is 'from the sea' in Spanish or somesuch, but it's really BS because it's an inside joke between him and Amber about her stuffed animals and that's the name of their ringleader... Now we get to see the story of Matt finding out why he got the boot, and Mike's attempt to sway Matt to the former Zaps side, including him offering up the Zaps HII if need be... Stormy night, and the former Omes are under the tarp portion of the shelter. Already, Mike's confessional has set him up vs. Rob....let's see what happens. See them walking on the beach and they arrive and there is food...they are so happy...Julie a dream come true seeing all of the food....They all sit and had a great picnic, wine, bread, beer, dates, chicken to cook tonight, Now talking about a name...Rob says Murlonia means from the sea....then he says that it doesn't mean a thing, Murlonia doesn't mean anything, Ambers stuffed animmals... Grant was like oh no we have to do this all again, but in retrospect thinks that it is good because it bonds them Mike says that Matt is the key, he doesn't have a loyalty, I have to go for broke and try to get Matt, but Matt is close to Andrea. See Mike and Matt walking and he wants them to come with them, wants he and Andrea, if you team up with us, I assure you we can go to the final four Matt wants to do what's best for him, doesn't want to be passive, Mike promises him the idol if he needs or wants it..will talk to Andrea.... See them at night, Steve says it's miserable, the shelter isn't finished, and it's leaking. He talks about the division between them, he's hoping Andrea and Matt will join them At night, Matt talks with Andrea. He tells her that she is his closest ally and he wants to vote all of Ometepe out. First Steve, then widdle Zap down, then blindside Rob....symbol clashes...Matt says the game respects big moves.... At Challenge Beach, Tribal Immunity is dead, Individual Immunity (in the form of a beautiful necklace is now alive! For only one necklace, the challenge is everyone has to balance on a log as they hold a tray with a ball on it. After an interval of time, they have to add balls onto the tray. If the ball falls, they're out. Julie's first out. Add the 2nd ball... Ashley's out. David's out. Add the 3rd ball, last one standing wins Immunity... Andrea's out. Grant's out. Matt's out. Rob's out. Phillip's out. 3 Zaps, 1 Ome... Rooster's out. Steve's out. There's a fly on Mike's ball, and he loses his balance! Natalie wins the first Individual Immunity! Rob calls it the Christian coalition, he goes to church on Sunday, but he's nervous, if they are all in it together, then I want them broken up. If Mike doesn't win IC, he should be the first sent to RI... The challenge...Individual...Andrea gives Jiffy the idol bakc, you covet the necklace, II, you are safe in this game can't be voted out, without it vulnerable. Perch on small log, while balance ball on wooden disc, add balls, if one ball falls off, you are out... Take spots, up on the log, get comfortable, ball number one, get 5 seconds to get the ball balanced....on....Phillip wobbly already....Phillip saves the ball, he has rhthym...Julie is first out. Add another ball, can take first one off and grab two, then put both on, Ashley out, David out, Ralph struggles, this round is over. Third and final ball, no stopping, last one up, wins immunity. Now, difficult, 3 balls, with the wind, Andrea out, Grant out, Matt out, Rob out, Phillip out, Ralph out, down to three....Mike, Steve, and Nat....Steve out. It's Mike and Natalie....Mike looks like a rock! No movement at all. A bug lands on Mike's ball, Mike is out, NATALIE WINS! Rob hugs her!!!! On a cliffside, we see Matt make up with Rob and then spill the beans about Mike's offer about his HII... Problem is that he also tells him about the plan that he considered to backstab Rob... Rob's confessional: You tell me this, it makes me think you should get a one-way trip back to Redemption Island! He then brings Andrea up to the cliff and tosses Andrea under the bus... Rob thinks then that he should Matt back... and that gives Mike more ammo for telling him to switch to the Zaps... Matt is seen struggling to figure out who to write... but not shown. Tally the votes Jeff! Anyone want to play an Idol? Rooster does, playing for Mike! I really like that kid, but he's right -- he really doesn't know how to play Survivor. BRob, OTOH, certainly does. Mike in confessional says he was feeling it, but it didn't come out right, he might be on the chopping block. He thinks it's going to be Ralph and me....Rob he's going to know that we are coming after Grant...and then all we have to do is reel Matt in and we are good.... Rob and Matt talking on the cliff, talking about relying on God, it's a game, his heart is telling him don't change, I don't want to switch, I have to have peace with what's happened...he's telling Rob waht Mike told him....Matt wants to continue with our tribe, Rob shakes his hand... Rob says that Matt has the audacity that he has a plan to send me to RI, Rob says he just bought himself a oneway ticket back to RI....Andrea says, yesterday, he was telling me that we were gonna get Rob out, and now he goes to Rob and tells him everything, this is ruining my chances for a final 3. Rob tells Nat to vote for Matt....he's trying to get us again. Rob tells Grant, it has to be Matt, he's playing both tribes. Ralph says these are the guys that voted you out, why go back with them. He says that he doesn't know, he was on the bottom of the alliance, but he is figuring it out....Natalie is up.... The loneliness of it for one makes it a harder route. Having to compete in a challenge every three days to stay in the game is harder than the path Vee took, for instance, just to name one UTR winner. If Matt makes it to the final, I think he deserves to win if he can make the right argument. The argument against him is he didn't play a strategic game. But I think surviving the hardship of Redemption Island makes me favor him over the strategic player. Well, maybe. One of things that's been bugging me about Survivor is that the "survival" aspect of it isn't played up as much anymore. It's all strategy. Remember in Survivor 2 when the camp was washed away? They had to trade their flag for more rice just to survive. Redemption Island is true survival, particularly since there's so much time alone. Mentally, that breaks a person down. Coming back from that, particularly considering Matt will have spent nearly the entire the game there if he manages to come back and make it to the Final 3, makes him worthy of consideration for the win. Those players should be thrilled that there is another option for them to get back in the game post boot. And, they get to do a challenge every 3 days, and they get to know everyone that goes through, and collect all kinds of information. I think it's a great twist. Regarding Matt. He did seriously blow it. Even Andrea felt like he threw her under the bus. He waffled way too much. He should have thought about what he'd do going back into the game on his first night out, stuck to it, and implemented it, like a well orchestrated production. He is the one that has had the luxury of seeing how Boston Rob has operated for 3 prior seasons. And, as someone has pointed out before, Boston Rob has always taken out a threatening male early....As Rob noted, he had a girl friend in the game, and he played end game on the first week...he was a guy that could have won. Rob also noted that he shared a common interest with others, his Christian faith, but when there are a whole bunch of them, they need to be broken up. And, he's right...the Chrisitian coalition could have flourished and done him in. I find no fault in someone that identifies the powers arising around him, and then cutting them off at the feet. Matt is a sweet, kind, young man who was way over his head. It was shown to us on the first day, when he asked..."Boston Rob, are you really from Boston?" After cutting someone's throat, do you think it's a good idea to fully trust them when they come back? Absolutely not, I would have done the same thing.
